    Hастало вpемя сообщить всей пpогpессивной общественности :))
о начале pаботы над пpоектом SUBJ'а.



    Стpаничку  пpедполагается  pазместить на одном из бесплатных
сеpвеpов. Дизайн ее будет, по возможности, максимально пpостым и
"спаpтанским",   чтобы  возможно  было  читать  ее  с  pеального
Спектpума, если кто-нибудь сможет написать-таки бpаузеp. Hикаких
скpиптов,  Java, анимационных гифов и пpочих излишеств HЕ БУДЕТ.
Будут  гpафические  иллюстpации  к  описаниям  пpогpамм  в  виде
скpиншотов (gif89a). Рабочее название пpоекта -"IS-DOS WORLD"

    The project will be NON-COMMERCIAL, although a certain amount
advertising or announcements may be presented (at
mutually beneficial conditions, in exchange for interesting materials on
IS-DOS)



    So far the following sections are planned:



1. Programs - lists of programs existing for IS-DOS
(updated soft sheets)

2. Hardware Support - a collection of Freeware drivers for everyone
devices and instructions for connecting and working with the printer,
screw, electronic disk, keyboards, etc.

3. Documentation - books, articles, publications on IS-DOS, descriptions
programs, solutions, etc. documentation for programmers.

4. Contacts - list of traders, list of BBS and links to WEB sites
with information on the ZX Spectrum, guest book, excerpts from
correspondence with the user, frequently asked questions (FAQ) on
IS-DOS.

5. Free download - IS-DOS discs and files provided for
free distribution.



In this regard, I would like to know the opinion of respected Sinclairists on
the following questions:



1. Is this necessary at all?

2. What materials should be published on the page?
    a) new program descriptions
    b) descriptions of solutions to practical problems (so-called solutions)
    c) technical documentation for programmers
    d) driversfor printers, hard drives, keyboards, etc.
    e) freely distributed programs
    f) anything else _______________ (fill in the missing :)))

3. In what format should I store IS-DOS program files for downloading?
    a) PC ZIP archive
    b) ZX ZIP archive
    c) unarchived
    d) in all three at the same time
    e) other options

4. In what format should entire disks with the system be stored?
    downloads?
    a) IS-DOS img file
    b) FDI file
    c) the same in the PC ZIP archive
    d) the same in the ZX ZIP archive
    e) in all at the same time
    e) other options

5. Is there a need for a “feedback” section in the form of a guest book, or
is this unnecessary?



    Please write to me your opinion on these issues.

Answers to some frequently asked questions about BestView
    ═══════════════════════════ ════════════════════════════



1. Which version of BestView is the latest?
────────────────────── ──────────────────────



    The latest version now is BestView 2.8. Scope of delivery
consists of three files: "BV 2.8 " - BestView itself,
"bv2.8hlp 
" - description, "bv2.8hst 
" - program history.



2. When will the next version be released and how can I get it?
──────────────────────────── ─────────────────────────────



    I'm currently writing version 3.0 completely from scratch.
Therefore, the work is not progressing as quickly as we would like.
The degree of readiness is about 20%. Wait for a new version to appear
maybe in 2000.

    BestView is a freely distributed program. Next
versions are placed in the ZX.SPECTRUM conference and beyond
are being distributed without my participation.  Latest version
BestView can also be received from me via FIDO or E-mail.



3. Why does BestView not work under the ZXEmul 0.33 emulator?
───────────────────────────── ─────────────────────────────



    BestView does not work under the ZX_Emul 0.33 emulator due to
inaccuracies in emulationdisk drive controller. About six months
ago I reported this problem to the author of the emulator and received
an encouraging answer.   So let's wait for the next version
ZX_Emul...




4. On slow computers (Krasnodar, Byte, etc.)
   Music playback slows down. What to do?
   ────────────────────────── ───────────────────────────



    There is a way to disable music analyzers. For this
the 'SS+I' key combination is used (calling the screen grabber).
Another way is to turn on screen while playing music
saver('CS+S'). True, both of these methods are somewhat inconvenient, because...
after loading _each_ melody you will have to press the combination
keys 'SS+I' or 'CS+S'.

    A more radical way is to completely disable analyzers with
by changing the BestView code. To do this, in the file "BV 2.8 "
at offset #2153 the value #A0 needs to be replaced with #9F.

    In subsequent versions of BV, the problem of music braking will be
solved by optimizing analyzers, so disable them
won't be needed.



5. To what addresses should messages be sent about noticed deficiencies?
   What are your comments and suggestions for improving BestView?
