ANOTHER WORLD - At the crossroads of three worlds.

           At the junction of the three worlds



   Working simultaneously on different computer platforms with 
different ideologies, often catch myself thinking, what about 
all on: glitches, megahertz, and Soup

prices.


   If before (after selling my Pentagon), constant 
communication was limited to 

        only the PC and Amiga, then more recently

        time reappeared Speccy, RA
        zumeetsya, virtual. With the advent of
        it Emulator CBSPECCY 0.18b from Co
        de Busters there was a long-awaited

        opportunity to compare the work of an emu
        fields at the two older platforms - PC and Amiga. 
Frankly - Code Busters tried very well. If they still make a 
full release with support for processors 040/060/RRS, holders 
will receive almost real Amigo Pentagon-128, but in the 
meantime to try it out can only amizhniki with 030 from MMU.

(However, just in this configuration, Amigo
we have in Russia a lot.)


   Compare the emulator: CBSPECCY
(AMIGA) and UKV, SHALAEV, Pent128 (PC). Testing was conducted 
using the demos to FunTop'98 and several fresh toys (Fisher, 
DOOM, Monsterland, etc., only 10 pcs.) Except for minor bugs 
landslide victory won by the emulsion Code Busters. (BRAVO!!) 
Gentlemen creators of emulators on the PC, improve their 
programs - not pozortes! 

   With regard to the platforms on which to conduct this unique 
test , the incidents are also missing.

After 34 h 56 m 14 s. - A record! However, had soon to make a 
second reinstallation  because of what did not work

an hour. After installation I accidentally looked into the 
folder windows, and when calculated its size, it was about a 
very surprised:  lost weight at 234Mb!

That is, six months had accumulated so many megabytes of junk! 
This is not a temporal files (There are some I delete 
regularly), and various libraries. DLL! So do not believe

a very long time, I entered the command line:
date 23-02-99. By the way, QB Tools reacted to it immediately - 
said that the dates are in order (on-line!). Delighted, I did 
not wait for the end of the test, the hard drive. However, 
after rebooting the Amiga all as suspiciously long rustling 
screw as if not logged in Workbench, and win'98

(:-)). Had to re-download QBTools.
While walking a full test drive, I worked on
 and totally not looking at the screen
Ammy, and in vain. Amiga squeaked by announcing the end of the 
test. I looked at the screen and very was surprised: instead of 
200MB of free space on the screw, Amiga found 350Mb! But at 
what cost? At full HDD test, she found  directory and 
delete them. This was whack - I started frantically sort out 
catalogs in search of the lost.  was removed 
entire Page Stream, along with two layout

the layout were stored on another computer. Deciding that more 
such troubles me no longer needed, I reformatted the hard drive 
and put a new advanced file system, AFS instead of the standard 
(FFS). Now, these problems simply will not.

Since AFS has built-in avtovalidatsii (partitioning). So, I got
by Amiga another useful lesson (though much
a very high price) that should be put
progressive things on your computer in advance, not
waiting for serious problems, which are
still be forced to take this step, only
large losses. In conclusion, I want to say that life at the 
junction of three computer worlds is very interesting, but most 
importantly - allows you to compare platforms, objectively.
