A recent issue of Hugi for PC included an article Raver'a
of CC000, which he explained that Russia has 'internal'
scene, which mainly exists separately from the rest
part of the scene, because people prefer to use Russian
language instead of English.

However, I recently came to the conclusion that there is
something more that separates the two parts of the scene.

I slyshall a lot of controversy about the Russian and
Western musicians and decided to try to find out some details of

Results Complex 99.

First, an explanation: I know that is not quite correct
talk about "the Russian scene." In reality, I mean
All countries of the former USSR, but the word 'Russian' or
'Russian' consume a little easier, that's all. Maybe others see
it differently, but for me it is - is where I always imagined
the border between the two halves of the scene. In late 1996,
Russian demo suddenly came to the UK, and it just was a shock -

find that this activity was unknown to the west.

Somehow - Organizers Complex compo done
unusual step of published alongside each filled votesheets
with the final results. This meant that I could count the
results, but this time with the creation of two lists - the
western and Russian voter'ov. And that's what I found:

The results, if voted only Western sceners:

             1 ... Sad Tune Yerzmyey (W) 122

             2 ... For Majam Andy Fer (R) 1992

             4 ... Startrash TDM (W) 80

            = 5 ... Eliminator X-Agon (W) 78

            = 5 ... I'm A Powr Ravager (R) 1978

           = 21 ... Shock Phant Lord (R) 0

           = 21 ... Draw Kriss (W) 0

Accidentally found out that these results are tied for
first place, taking into account both lists "For Majam", taking
into account that the compo was actually officially won the
other work Andy Fer'a - "Twister's Dance Machine". As it
happened, because that fateful vote was made by the South
African scener'om that was not included in any of my lists :-)

So, what do we show these results?

Firstly, we can see that the Russian gave voter'y 7
the first places to Russian works. In fact, the average score
given Russian music was 9.28, while Western music

was only 15.8.

On the western scener'ami the opposite. They put
significantly higher estimates of Western works - on average
Western musicians have received 72.4 points against 52.7 for
Russian. But the most remarkable difference between the results
- Job Yerzmyey - "Sad Tune". Set high marks from

Western voter'ov, lets take the work a place in the Western
chart'e. On the Russian side is only one voter drew the
her attention.

Here I must remind you that voted did not know
composers. Nevertheless, it is fair to note that
y Yerzmyey one of the most recognizable styles of music - no
matter You like it or not - and it is possible that this
influenced voters. Maybe some people did not even know the
author, and just apply the style to good or bad music.

Or perhaps you explain this to the fact that people found
authors' works and vote for your friends. OK, "friendly
voting "happens to any party (just look at
Song contest Eurovision ;-)) - but we can not afford
this to be the main reason for the separation of the scene.

I do not know what to believe - or have a deep cultural
reason, which makes the Russian and Western musical tastes
incompatible, or the two sides just unfriendly. In any
If it shows how difficult it is to collaborate on
stage.

We see real evidence of a split - I
examine the results with other party in the same way, but,
Unfortunately, very few party attracted so many artworks from
the both parts of the scene as a Complex. Only Forever 2e3
approached this level, and the results depict the same picture -

The Russian won the work compo, but the average Western received
greater number of votes from the (mostly)
Czech / Slovak audience.

Other party have been supported by only one side of the
stage, and This leads to disastrous conclusions - for example,
the Russian can look at the results Paradox'a and think that
there are no good musicians from outside Russia, while the West
looks at the Doxycon and comes to a similar conclusion with
respect to Russian.

I hope that my research has shown that there is no
sense in talking about the fact that one side of the stage is
better than the other. Instead of arguing, we could do two
things:

First - my suggestion compo organizers. If you
want to preselect, that's fine - nobody wants to
listen to 30 or 40 tunes on the party. But why not invite
people from both sides of the stage to participate in
preselect'e? Other than You can argue that truly represents
your compo best on stage?

And the second - everyone on stage - the musicians,
coders, artists or just a voice - do not discount the activity

another part of the scene. Treat the whole scene. And most
importantly: open your mind.

P.S. One more thing ... Do not believe any of those
organizers, who say that the calculation of results - a very
hard work, takes several weeks. I figured it all
about an hour :-)
