Enlight'96 - Serega Novikov "Looking from outside, a detailed review of the demos.

ENLIGHT'96 we offer you our regular reader's letter, which came 
via email. Thus, subjective evaluation of musical 
demonstrations presented at the ZX demo compo.

            VIEW FROM


   I looked at that moment, almost all
best demo presented by our wonder-encoders on ENLiGHT. I want 
to share their concerns regarding their quality, and say a few 
words (not always pleasant) about each. Let's start ...



   First, about the level of the demos as a whole. He, of 
course, increased in comparison with previously existing on the 
Spectrum demo scene, but still, in my opinion, there are 
reserves 

to increase the quality of the demos, and significant. First of 
all, almost never used multicolor. And if you combine all the 
best effects in a demo ... what you get! As someone said of the 
greats: "Hackers of the world, to unite!"



   Moreover, little steep pictures.
Pleasant exception is the demo
Influence by SEAMANS ... Understandably, no
all - artists, but if so the demo at
ENLiGHT ready, you can also find a good picture (even if 
stolen, so because it did not prevent Illusion by X-Trade

take first place!).


   Most demos are small,
The authors clearly sought to accommodate all the 128
kilobytes. Really it was impossible to make a beautiful 
podgruzku from disk (for example: demo by Seamans)?




   Finally, I note that some authors (I will not point the 
finger at Rambo and etc.) presented clearly failed demos -

sense of their display was to show their abilities and 
opportunities, and hit the general public, which was forced to 
listen to nasty music and look at the unpleasant effects (ICE 
demo CREAM) ...



   We now turn to a short story about
each demo separately ... We begin with
VIBRATIONS, because this demo was shown earlier than others.


   From the outset, there is foul
inscription in English, which quickly replaced the introductory 
part. To those who did not have time to read this inscription 
can not "friendly" to advise to download the demo mode 48K. 



   But times change, and change the inscription. The first part 
of "vibration" is quite beautiful, very nice music. Though the 
entry, exactly as deme, too prolonged. I can advise impatient 
keep the blank - go to the most demo ... Well, what can say 
about it? Very good music, not so nasty

graphics, a very high level of coding.
Particularly impressive is part RUSH 1996. Very
nice little nadoedaet, in its own way beautiful. The remaining 
parts pretty quickly rather steep, but not very pleasant.

Do not get me wrong: they were made very
even decently, but now contemplate many of the
does not give them to me no pleasure at all ...


   Made a very original epilogue. In general, this deme is 
definitely worth one of the first places.

   We now proceed to the demo, which was
recognized as the best: the Illusion MD by X-Trade.


   The huge minus for this demonstration -
almost all the effects of black and white. Whether the authors 
are sitting on a black and white TVs, whether next to them, but 
the color pictures here there will be only a couple of times. 
Another big minus - almost stolen graphics ... So how did the 
demo with these negative traits came in the first place? That 
is the corollary to decide! Joke! 


   In fact, for all its faults Illusion is at the forefront of
all other positions. First of all music: at first it was 
clearly not very good, but then at the end of the month ... In 
general, in the end music becomes very and again very

enjoyable. Besides the effects of ... Here
everything is done very cool! And most importantly, original. 
Especially memorable parts: a ball bouncing on a trampoline, 
Robocop, Sonic ... 


This demo is really done with humor, that
allows not only to peer into the intricate effects, how to 
relax, rest and more time to rest ...

   Now let's turn our eyes to the demo # 3 - Eye Ache by Code 
Busters Group. 


   Recognized leader and this time produced a good and large 
enough demo (do not know why so many she seemed a little). It 
is steeper Insulta, as is still a dream. Here are the top three 
I would not put it. But let's examine it in detail. So that we 
have ... Very nice music during demonstrations (and not so in 
the Epilogue) ... The graphics really are not the best, but

very good (which only cost cartoons). But most of all I liked
"PICART COMING FROM HELL". Disadvantages
demos include multicolor only for

Pentagon. Well, in the slope of the 256 colors no doubt (if 
there really 256, I have not the Pentagon). 


   Very contradictory impression this deme. On the one hand it 
is very cool, but on the other, many demos look spectacular. In 
short, a typical fourth or fifth place.

   Next demo took fifth place. I

   What we see right after boot:
just great graphics, cool music, user-friendly interface. The 
entire demo is arranged quite comfortably: nothing annoys 
almost all very, very nice. So Now, in my opinion, very cool.

opinion, best graphics, and possibly music. Maybe because in 
the illusion she is also very, very cool, but there is one. In 
the vibrations of the same great music, but still not the best.



   What else can I say about this demo?
The full schedule and a very high quality, elegant music, good 
effects. Effects are not the best, I agree. Many of the effects 
already met before, but there are also new.

Something generally have not met ... In short, pretty good and 
certainly at least not in fifth place.

   Another demo wrote Firm Galaxy,
known for the "irons" Rowenta. I was expecting, in truth, to 
see something more abruptly. This demo is not very bad, but not 
very good. Music does not cause elation, decent graphics, but 
not great. Do you like the only vector fighter, wasps The 
experimental as has already been. However, the demo made just 2 
people, but here ... Well, not very impressive, well done. 
Disappointed 3d-cube: it was possible and decent graphics 
inserted in the face. Outcome: not at all impressive score on 
ENLiGHTe given is true.

Megacode H.G. Sixth, like the place. AND
very sorry that no 4-5th. Cons: very fast and because of this 
very short Dema, a small number of graphics. But everything 
else is just class! Demo did one man! At the same codes for
