<b>VIP</b> - An Interview with galandskoy demo group The Lords.
Yeah, something more recent ... April 1998!

Who does not know the Dutch group The
Lords, he should go and learn
history of the scene =]

They have done quite a lot of demos,
some of which can now be considered
classics. The Lords now for many years
ago shelved the demo making organization for the last
plan, Lord Insanity moved to
Belgium.

But look at the history that has so little
Relations with the current scene is always very
useful and interesting.

           Interview with The Lords

SNG - Journal Scenergy
LI - Lord Insanity / The Lords
T - Thing / The Lords

 Welcome, The Lords.
<LI> Hello.
<T> Hello. Frankly, I was a little
surprised that once again faced with the fact that
did a decade ago. I'm flattered :-)
Okay, let's go.

To begin the traditional question -
how it all began, how did
group The Lords? How did you get on the Speccy
and the demo scene?
<T> It all started with a local group
enthusiasts in the city where I lived when I was
child. My brother and some of its
Buddy was a ZX Spectrum (with a huge amount of
Memory - 48k!). I liked
sit behind him. My brother and I all
while fighting for the opportunity to
use it, but as it was
My brother's computer, I usually lose
these contractions. Then I decided to save
enough money to buy
own computer. By the time
when I had enough
Cash had already been released 128k model
and that's it and I have spent my money.
I wanted more than just play
game, so I went to the library and took
several books on the assembler and
programming. I started asking
advice from some friends of my brother (y
who also had 128-e), and that's what I
Met Lord'a Insanity (he, incidentally,
lovely name, because he and the very
really crazy). I think, The Lords have already
were formed at that time. Passed all
a couple of weeks, and they invited me
to join them, mostly to
engage in a musical part. That is so
it all started ...
<LI> Well, to be honest, when we
started, the demo scene on the C64 was already
fairly well developed, and we were friends
(Though we still friends) with
demo-group at C64 The Judges. Then
Scrunk wrote several procedures and
drew something, and we decided that we can
make a demo based on this. We came up with
his name, which is slightly higher
scale than The Judges, and came on the scene.

The Lords created a lot of dem.
Have you ever been to
cracking-scene? And if she was generally on
Spectrum?
<LI> Should be, cracking-scene
existed, because sometimes I got
game before they were released
(Remember that at that time I was a poor
student and from time to time to buy
game). Sometimes I did something cracked, but
mainly for own use
(Eg, converted multi-tape
loader for + D, etc.).
About <T>, cracking-scene definitely was. I
I mean, I could get almost
_lyubuyu_ game that ever
produced at Speccy. I even bought the game
from time to time. Although, I never did not
cracked games. The reason that I
bought a game that I thought that this
play really well and deserves
money. "Head Over Heels" was one of the
such games. Oh, and "Driller", of course.
Freescape! Remember this? It was
really cool.

I think it's cool and now
Games! But what about other platforms? Y
The Lords had any connection with the C64
or Amiga, for example?
<T> Far as I know, releases have been
only on the Speccy. We have ported
some demos with the C64 at the Spectrum, but it
was mainly the result of our close
relationship with The Judges (this
known group at C64). The Judges and The
Lords were friends. And has always been
rivalry between the owners of Amigo
On the one hand and the owners of the C64 and
Spectrum, on the other. Not because the Amiga -
sux, but because all the owners were
idiots. Memories of the struggles that
occurred in our local computer
club, always make me smile.
The present-day football events remind
after that day in kindergarten.
<LI> Hey! We have written several dem
for a remarkable machine Sam Coup! But
no work on the C64 or Amiga. At first the
I had no money to buy
Amiga itself, but when they get there, I
preferred real computer (Acorn
Archimedes). However, I never
bother writing to him any
dem. The problem of modern computers in
that they are so fast and have
such an excellent graphics that you
have to spend a lot of time and effort
to write a demo. We do not work
:-) For example, the creation of "Little Joke"
It took me just one night.

What do you think about today
Spectrum scene?
<LI> I like to read news
Internet. From time to time I corresponded
e-mail with others
Spectrum users (I still have it
like), but in reality, I
no longer am on the Spectrum
stage.
<T> Frankly, if we discard all those
emulators and snapshot'y, I did not know that
Spectrum is still there. Although to me
still like to play "Knight Lore" -
even after all these years I still can not
pass it on.

Well, now you know it! May
be worth a little more to communicate? AND
then another question: you come into contact with
other sceners? Maybe you have had
any meeting or party?
<T> Oh, it's the best part of staying
on stage! Letters I received were
truly incredible. I remember that, after
after I released the Rendez-Vous, I
received the letter, which came all the way from New
Zealand. And this is after 3 weeks!
Now, when the Internet became what it is
there is no longer seems to be something
awesome, but 10 years ago it was
quite differently. This to me really
liked it. We exchange programs with
people around the world: Norway, Africa,
South America, India, Australia and New
Zealand. This eventually resulted in
good collection of stamps. Shame
admit it, but at that time I was very
tight budget. I could not even
afford to respond to all emails
simply because I did not have enough money to
brand. Can you believe it?

Now that the Internet is everywhere,
I can not :-) But I know this atmosphere,
when you open the envelope and check
drives even if you do not know who their
sent you!
<LI> Well, we had a meeting in Venlo and in
Usterhaute, and it was great fun.
Actually, I finished "Finish It" on one
of these rabid computer meetings
Usterhaute. Although the majority of people out there
were casual gamers, and it was not
very nice.
<T> Meetings that we organized,
were, in fact, drinking-party with my
colleagues at The Lords and The Judges. In
rare cases, we traveled to other cities.
I know that some of us a couple of times
been in the UK, but I have never
not turned out to join them.

When, why and how it all
end?
<T> For me, it all ended when I
left town, went to college. We
never ceased to meet, but LI
was the only one who continued to produce
program at Speccy. I think that the group
The Lords are still there, just her
very, very vague outlines. This story
never end. And now the Lord
Insanity, Der Hansie (from The Judges) and I
quite common. I've never
going to discontinue its activities in
group, just so happened. In fact,
Indeed, I do not know why ...
<LI> Out? I still have
a lot of procedures and a half
finished demos and toys for the Spectrum
and Sam Coup. Although, of course, I do not think that
ever finish anything worthwhile.
The question is, it still produced demos
on the Spectrum, and what their quality?

 You know, actually, yes. However,
their quality is generally not high,
as it should be. And finally, please
tell the story of The Lords,
What was the composition of the group members at the beginning
and at the end?

<T> Um, this question for Lord'a Insanity,
so I'll leave it to
reply!
<LI> Original lineup
(1987?): Rob "Scrunk" Mies and David "Lord
Insanity "Gommeren. After a while
(1988?): Rob, David and some other guy
that just makes us crappy
music (I do not even remember his name).
Then: Rob, David, this "other guy"
(I think his name was Zoink or something
this kind) and Michiel "Thing" Koolen. Well
Finally: Rob, David and Michiel.

 Thank you, that you allowed
all learn a little more about The Lords and
about the history of the scene as a whole!
<T> You're welcome! I am proud that
after all these years still have traces of
our work, and I'm flattered that she
More interesting people.

 People are still interested?

Appears that most of the scenes
not at all interested in history and they
do not care what made speccy those
that it is now.

People of the future!
