dihalt 2011 beeper music review

by nq/skrju, siril/4d and all

1_darkman7 - unfunny joke

MmcM/Sage:

for a beeper this is 5 on a five-point scale)

nq> What do you highlight most about it?

diversity, technical approach. I was pleasantly surprised when I first listened)

+++++++

Ronin/Techno Lab:

hmm, what happened in other places)... oh what a cool thing :) you need to listen to it the second time :) then the perception is better) and 1 time at the beginning there was some kind of gurgle-gurl. and from 0.44 times the dark started) then you turn it on repeat - and it sounds different :)

nq> and, in general, about the track, what feelings does it give you? :) it's outside 2011 and this is a fresh track in the beeper)

in which beeper?

nq> Spectrum.

is this a beeper??? not AUshka???

nq> yes :) this is a new type of component on a par with ay-chip, they are sold separately - aybeeper.

Holy crap! cool :)

+++++++

Manwe/Sands:

Powerful sound, in some places even vaguely reminiscent of SID.

+++++++

Siril/4D:

The track benefits from the use of a different sound engine, while everyone is hooked on SpecialFX, which gives a seed-like sound, DarkmanOO7 treacherously uses Phaser =) And uses it masterfully. It’s not for nothing that many asked: this really beeper? And there's not a drop of AY here? Turns outthe timbre can be played in Phaser, realistic drums and the most energetic arpeggios are stunning (this is on what speed did you integrate them into the track, in the absence of ornaments?), deep The bass finally hits. Surprisingly varied tonal track. Thank you Darkman, great, you set new standards of quality on relatively new for the Spectrum beeper scene. (Shiru - thanks for the beepola =)

+++++++

Unbeliever:

1st place must be considered an absolute extravaganza. A calm start, as if not even hints to us, but sudden overflows already at the 30th second cause the only question: "Is it a Beeper?" Already on the 44th question it doubles itself, and with the appearance the drum parts are starting to excite consciousness - maybe Penteva with SID emulation is here? I don’t know about you, but for me this is a real and honest victory. If such a track had been inserted at the beginning of any commercial game in 1986, Darkman would have would have become a pound millionaire in the first month of sales.

2_nq - must-blow-your-head

Kurt/Unit 5:

“what am I thinking” about what? specifically about this module, about the component, about the need for such music, something else?

nq> yes, just about the track :) nq> Your opinion will be interesting to many.

modulo - solid old school...reminiscent of the games Special FX and Ocean from circa 1988. I liked it)

nq> Dada! this synth is just like thatcalled - Special FX :) in the editor there is Several synths to choose from that you can play with. nq> don't you think it's too repetitive?)

gee)) well, 3 times, no more)

nq> I’ll tell you a secret :) I wrote it in 1.5 hours. I wrote this to make a joke With this style, I wanted to show off all this hit stuff :)

)) well, I liked this type of muse, I actually wrote what I thought.

nq> thanks for the answer)

+++++++

Zeebr/deMarche:

nq> well, tell me already your couple of sentences about the track)

I listened to it yesterday! beeper for me, it’s somehow even worse! I don’t even know what say. Let me listen a little later and maybe come up with something)) you need to take a closer look at the sounds of the beeper))

nq> why invent, tell your current thoughts)

I'll listen again now.

nq> that's what's special about it - 2 channels for melody, notes from G-1 to C-4, than the closer to C-4, the more false the sound :)

))) In general, the voice is missing :-D

nq> plus a drum channel.

By the way, the melody reminded me of something pop)) so native from 9O) or the beginning 20OO) I don’t remember exactly what... in general, I’d like to hear a cover with drums and bass and Liki Star's sexy voice!

nq> it is intertwined with something for sure =) there can’t be so much pop in one track be original :) nq> What do you think?do you need this beeper competition? Are you personally interested in all this?

Nope... I don’t care about this competition at all. I get a kick out of good AY tracks.

nq> thanks for the answer :)

plz :)

+++++++

Siril/4D:

A truly party music, in the best traditions of EA, seasoned with universal the sadness of an unforgivable spell. flash before my mind's eye heartbreaking pictures that leave a lump in your throat and your eyes filling up undiluted tears. Nq, we didn’t understand anything, but you got through to our hearts! The SpecialFX sound tickles the ears pleasantly.

+++++++

Unbeliever:

This is exactly the first track that evoked associations at the party with a remix and “I I've heard this somewhere before." I think partly it was this moment that served as the choice majority. Nevertheless, the implementation is excellent and rather even classical (for beeper) than the modern one.

3_darkman7 - roll'n'balls

psb^halloween^Зumph:

I listened, I don’t even know what to say :)

nq> let's try it together) nq> I’ll play this track now.

looks like the music from the game, the sound is the same as in the game Robin.

nq> did you like it?

but the topic itself... well, not my thing.

nq> yes, he is playful, or rather playful) nq> and development in it as according to the canons.

maybe.. I'm not smart :)

nq> is a difficult topic, what do you think?

fordifficult for me :)

nq> at 00:59 the notes begin to be played quickly, for example, do you like this?

This is just not very good. better at the beginning and end.

nq> for my taste, I would go even deeper into these fingerprints of notes, but then the track unlikely to take a high place)

for sure :)

nq> yes, maybe it was worth not using these fast parts at all, so that the track swam in simple motifs from beginning to end, would have displaced another place higher) nq> ok, thanks for the answers :)

+++++++

Visual/Magic Soft:

I listened to it 10 times in a row so that my opinion would be more balanced. The music is very playful and dynamic, as it should be for a musical compo, in my opinion. It’s clear that the author really tried to get out everything he could and Not possible from the Spectrum beeper. It's very cool actually. However, due to the latter does not manage to put a huge burden on the listener with various “goodies” remember and highlight the main melody or mood. At least ask me it would not have worked to remind or at least somehow associate this music do this, unlike the beeper melody from Deflector or Exalon, which already for more than 20 years and which are still firmly in my head.

+++++++

Manwe/Sands:

Musically interesting, beautiful and rhythmically interesting riffs. Chip rock kind of thing. But the sound is simple, of course.

+++++++

Siril/4D:

Cheerful rock 'n' roll blasts on SpecialFX.

+++++++

Unbeliever:

Very cheerful and very fit. The same non-standard (to my ears) technical techniques clearly highlight the work against the background of the knowledge that it is playing on a beeper. The classic rock'n'roll sketch only enhances the impressions.

4_siril - harder-better-faster-stronger rmx

Manwe/Sands:

Tone instruments have a standard beep sound, drums sound more interesting. Daft Punk is vaguely recognizable :)

+++++++

Raynoa/Mayhem:

It’s a strange feeling, the bass line is such that it overwhelms everything. it seems like it's about to happen there will be some kind of solo line, but I didn’t get it for the whole track. those. like this the background music came out like it felt. I understand that it’s a beeper, but the track gives me a feeling understatement)

nq> thanks for taking the time :)

+++++++

Siril/4D:

Yet another rmx of HBFS by DaftPunk on the SpecialFX engine. To avoid fake the range of notes is narrowed to a couple of octaves, which adds confusion and uncertainty, which I like so much.

+++++++

Unbeliever:

That's good. A little monotonous, but this is more likely due to the length of the track.

5_rene sens - laura palmer

Random/Concern Chaos:

made me smile. in some places, of course, it was very false) The track is good in any case.

:)

the tools are not badexpressed.

nq> is a beeper, here the octave range is narrowed when compared with an ay-chip, and what the higher the octave, the crooked the sound nq> only 2 channels for melodies and 1 for drums.

from the point of view of the structure of the work, I have no complaints) this is a beeper, after all, not a concert)

+++++++

BiTL/Quite:

Is this probably yours?

nq> no, the author is listed there. nq> and I don’t know who this person is)

I found it already in the cuts. Well, I'll shit myself)

nq> then this will be my first harsh comment from those that have already been given to me people. nq> what to do, you need to add pepper to the review)

I finally don’t perceive this squeak. This is how darkman got 1st place, normal, and in last year 1st place sounded good. I don't know how adequately comment on this.

nq> everything is bad, do you think?

Well, it doesn't build. has no melody value. But there's 80% the same in my opinion. so it’s hardly worth adding my comments. except maybe including those that I can’t handle these tweeters anymore)

+++++++

Siril/4D:

The SpecialFX engine has an evil trap - starting from the 4th octave it starts to become evil fake Unfortunately Rene Sens ended up in it, quite nice in concept the track has turned into a small branch of hell =) Perhaps the track was imported from VortexTracker and "blindly" sent tocompo, or the author decided that such falsehood is an integral part of beeper. Rene, please, next time be take a closer look, because the idea was actually quite cute.

+++++++

Unbeliever:

5th place.... Oh no. It turns out there was a third track that invisibly reminded party that this is a remix. And it was he who played first - now I definitely guarantee it to you. There in the clearing it seemed that before us was an unknown masterpiece of the group’s creativity "Gaza Strip". The words seemed to be on the tongue, but were not remembered. As far as I I can understand now, the original is “Glory to K.P.S.S. - Laura Palmer.” Very much like a remix good, but it's time to free beeper from remixes, their time has passed in the past year.

6_riskej - beeps over the era

Shiru:

I didn't like this track for several reasons: quite random structure, no feeling of movement from somewhere to somewhere; very upset sound (reminded me of Beep Tracker in this regard). But short.

nq> It seems to me that the track is in the spirit of other riskej tracks, isn’t it?

I don’t remember any others on his beeper, but on AY there was no detuning, apparently very much influences the impression.

nq> there is a certain mood here, it may be that now there is no do you match?

Maybe, but I'm not a fan of this shape in general. I listened to several of his AY works from 2007 - it doesn’t look like this. More traditional, perhaps.

nq> thanks for your opinion :)

+++++++

Jocker/OHG:

harsh to the ear, empty (zero arrangement), primitive. I said what I think.

nq> note that this is beeper music, it limits the author (in the range of octaves, channels and sound manipulation) :)

after dubmoodobckux Mouzon.... Oleg, you asked, I answered =)

if someone is rushing from the beepper, well, maybe as a direction, yes, it can exist. but I find it more pleasant to listen to chiptunes =) good ones =)

nq> I understand you, thank you :)

+++++++

Siril/4D:

The insidious SpecialFX lured riskej into his trap. And turned into an interesting sketch into a rollicking dining room.

+++++++

Unbeliever:

Again riskej presents the idea too briefly. Why don't you accept repetitions? colleague? Only through repetitions does the audience absorb the information.

I will leave the last two places without comments - I’m tired.

7_aer - beeper

stanly/stall:

somehow boring. there is no one topic, the author constantly jumps without any transitions. in a word - about nothing. or I just didn’t move in.

+++++++

sand/mayhem:

oh you fucking fuck *(C) well, dude.... music... beeping... much more successful than previous Ayer works

nq> are you familiar with his beeper music?

The ending clearly didn't work. I listened to several works - they were too acidic at times. And what?

nq>What can you highlight from this track? nq> I like the shock theme, for example.

Are you burning away at home, Olezha? :))))

nq> how he turns off the sound when he snares :) nq> no, I seriously want to know your opinion :) nq> pay attention - when he does "YUH" nq> the sound disappears for a moment) nq> Technically a good track, the melody is a little blurry.

Well, perhaps I’ll highlight the fact that when I started listening to this track, I there was a feeling of similarity to the knight rider theme for example :)

nq> well, there’s a different topic depending on the mood)

depending on my mood, yes, but I just remembered :)

nq> There is almost no bass in the AER track.

did you get high there and have no one to take a steam bath with? :)

nq> Do you think if it had been there, the track would have been a little better?

definitely!

nq> this track is just in 7th place. nq> almost at the very end. nq> ok, thanks for the review.

Are you writing an article about the objectivity of voting on Music Compo?

nq> no, I’m just collecting scattered opinions of people about music from dihalta)

I'll tell you... ordinary people don't judge music by the presence or absence of bass.

nq> I agree, everything decides as a whole)

just if there is a pleasant unobtrusive melody (even the simplest execution) - thenthe track seems pleasant... I would like to give it a 9 or 10 :)

+++++++

Siril/4D:

SpecialFX didn’t do it without some machinations here, but AER’s experience in beeper music allows him to use dissonance to create an unsettling atmosphere.

8_irrlicht - gnampf

Macros (MSF Magazine Editor):

Any modern mobile phone has midi polyphony. And in any Modern mobile phones have a built-in MP3 player. And beautiful and Despite all this, there is very little interesting music on phones. Once upon a time I got the idea that you can write beautiful things... in one-bit sound Apparently, this was inspired by Spectrum beeper music. And all this is possible it would be possible to do it on the cheapest mobile phone - NokiaZZ10.

The track described is a good example of beeper artistry. Listening to him, involuntarily analogies arise with AY music: here something similar to chord ornament, here - on the bass envelope, and here - glides natural gliss. Everything is like in the pro tracker.

The beginning is similar to Alone Coder's minimalist tracks. All you need is rhythm and melody, and even mystery in the middle of the track. The second part is a little similar to the “music” from Skrju (note for nik-o: I don’t know who wrote their music in some demos), consisting of a sequence of notes and samples from ROM or some sprite or text loaded intotracker as a sample. Perhaps this confused the listeners who gave the track last place? I liked it.

+++++++

Nodeus:

Gnampf is a rather complex sound for a beeper with an interesting, but rather long introduction. Development of the musical theme from 40 seconds with its subsequent complete triumph with an interesting bust at the 1:15 mark. This is exactly how it should be beeper music up until 1:50, where the entry into perfect musical an atmosphere that continues until the very end of the track. Complex, voluminous, incomprehensible, that's what can be said about this track. Perhaps his only The downside is that this track is not for demo parties. It's too complicated to be fast understanding, one listening is too little to appreciate its inner structure and complexity of the musical theme. This is the strength of this track: written in record time, it contains a whole universe of feelings and experiences. That's how I define this track for myself. At Di Halt 2011 in beeper compo I never gave the highest rating to any track, but Gnampf earned from I'm honest 5/7.

+++++++

Manwe/Sands:

a noise experiment, generally interesting.

+++++++

Siril/4D:

A very interesting experimental track on an engine other than SpecialFX, which immediately highlights it. Such a low place is probably due to the fact that the most the interesting thing starts after 1/2 of the track and not everyone listened to it to the end. Hefull sound effects, unexpected events and obviously underrated.

To sum it up.

Unbeliever:

Upon the completion of the last one, DiHalt would like to once again appeal to everyone musicians exhibiting their work at parties. Please be aware that the organizers The most ordinary people and they tend to make mistakes. Moreover, they are much mistaken more often because they are in a state of constant (alcohol intoxication) stress.

Do the MRZ of your track yourself. Put it to work. Don't give me a chance to ruin it your music when showing an error in the channel layout, AY frequency and others the smallest details. Let only two problems remain - volume and distance plug on the remote control - the organizers will somehow cope with them.

Check out the work at the party. If you are attending an event, unite and approach the organizers together. Ask to listen to your tracks. Be persistent, it will help. The problem can be fixed before the show.

Help the organizers. If you really understand music and see any problems at the party that you can fix on your own - report them this to the organizers. A striking example is the spacing of speakers to increase the stereo area by latest DiHalt.

If the show was fake. Let the organizers know about this and try to fix it. situation. There is always time to listen to works again and it cango through with the correct tonality.

And finally, the main thing. Author, remember! Your music only sounds right in one way place - at your home. In all other places it will sound wrong, especially when it comes to a large hall or outdoors in general. Treat it like this calm. Those who listen to works at home in warm tube headphones will vote as it should.
