Forever 12 graphics works review

by riskej/smb/retroworks/samar prod and diver/4d

riskej: The already iconic Slovak party FOReVER, to everyone’s joy, left a pleasant mark in 2011 as well.

In general, I have some special feelings associated with FOReVER. For example, in graphics I always wait for CVM and Trixs to work, and if they don’t exist, then as if graphics compo looks somehow inferior. I also always write on the official website www.forever.zeroteam.sk that there will be graphics and music from me. And if with music somehow it turns out, I still can’t draw serious graphics on compo it worked. And I’ve been wanting it since 2008.

This year FOReVER met my expectations completely. I didn't wait epic works, but I was waiting to see what level the traditional participants would show, and, of course, who will appear from new blood.

12. domcek by nairam

diver: Apparently at every party there is a certain percentage of such work. When someone learns to draw and immediately does it in color. If you follow the gallery author, then nairam has been studying something for a long time - since 2004. In addition, there were works and better, for example his last year's work with forever.

riskej: Nairam has nothing better than “Elephant” from Forever 6 and “Kozmonaut” from Forever 7 it was. I just love these works. The extremely low quality of this picture is surprising. I wouldn't be surprised if the artist painted it right on the party place under public pressure.

11. Innuendo by Factorb

riskej: I am pleased with the stability that Factorb shows. It's stupid to ask excellent musician, excellent results in graphics, that's why my criticism limited to only good words. There are always some details that captivate you in Factorb's graphics. Here are the corporate colors Spectrum with a diagonal line are very harmonious with the vertical bright line. And the face itself is drawn well.

diver: Factorb exposes himself to everyone just as persistently and tenaciously as Trixs forever. Obviously, he doesn’t shine with his skills, but he’s trying to experiment with design and technology. We must pay tribute to the accuracy of Factorab for this work, like the previous ones, it’s nice to look at. But can someone explain to me why it is necessary? was it possible to draw b/w ordered dither, if any converter does this with a bang? So what the guy with the right eye/cheek? Swollen?

10. 8bit Eden / Busy

diver: What I like about Busy’s work is sincerity and honesty. He doesn't I began to cover up my inability to draw with conversion and an abundance of colored textures. He as if honestly admitting: yes, I don’t know how to draw. But I havethere is this one idea, look. And calmly and simply portrays her with spontaneity, inherent in children's drawings. And, I must say, it works. The idea is simple interesting, quite detailed and brings a sincere smile. Looking at this you understand the picture, what is it all that is missing for those who have practiced realism? to other famous gfx makers - these are the ideas.

riskej: Cool idea in simple execution. Indeed, I find such simplicity in there are not enough ideas. Busy good fellow.

9. Spiderman_c / Trixs

diver: Very strange work. It would seem that could be the central element in a picture about a superhero? Yes, a superhero. But for some reason he is out of focus and somehow strangely cropped. We only see Spiderman's shoulder, head and arm, with a strange elongated hand (the kind of thumbs normal people have, in my opinion, does not happen). A very unobvious glare from the sun on the hero’s head. Transition from yellow to red through black is very strange. Understand that the head does not end with a black outline, you can look at it for about 15 minutes, not earlier. Green snot, oh, sorry, I didn’t quite understand the smoke sticking out of the skyscraper either. Like unfinished sky. Actually, it’s very joyful to watch the stability, with which Trixis is exhibited on the compo, but this joy is a little darkened constant levelworks, slightly below average.

riskej: Trixs, it seems to me, simply did not have time to complete this work. Himself Spiderman is not bad, it’s impressive, but when you start looking closely, you see a lot "drafts". Strange shape of the head, under-drawn background, crooked line of the web, stars on the left of the American flag. I always expect more from this artist, just always. I finally want see more accuracy in work, more straight lines. Effectiveness that present in Trixs works brings a lot of pleasant emotions, but on one Effectiveness won't get you very far. I think ninth place is a good confirmation of this.

08. Poison Crowd / nodeus

diver: It is difficult to evaluate surrealism. And it is doubly difficult to evaluate work in gigascreen, since I don't draw in it. On surrealist paintings never you know what to start from and what the author wanted to portray :) On the one hand, in In a review, you can always avoid reviewing the content by writing about the technology, but in this case, I don’t understand how technically this is done. It looks like the sketch was made in a full-color PC palette in Photoshop, then transferred to Spectrum format and finalized. Perhaps this gives the overall feeling of a kind of “mash”.

riskej: Gigascreen is becoming a part of our lives, which makes us happy. I never expected that nodeus will take such a bold step, after all, the authorI haven't drawn anything for a long time - this once - and didn’t draw anything at all in the gigascreen - that’s two. The picture turned out to be “poisoned” with a bunch of unnecessary pixels. It can't be said that the work looks converted, no, but also fully drawn on the Spectrum She doesn't look either. There is a lot of attribute cleshing, which is unpleasant the eye catches. Gigascreen is capable of more, of course, but here too it is used in places quite competently, the muzzle behind the crowd looks especially nice. The only thing that confuses me is the clear outline of the curls on the general blur of the face. A The palette for depicting the crowd was also very poorly chosen. Pink and gray colors mutually exclusive because they are very close in tone. And, as you know, when two colors close in tone are adjacent, the saturation of both colors decreases. Overall, the work is successful, but it looks unfinished. Definitely a place to it would be higher if the author sent the work not in the format of two usual screens, but using interlaced. Flashing wild even on real Spectrum.

07. manifested / Ref

diver: Drawing portraits of celebrities is a very thankless task. How to give something to drink they'll screw it up. So I'm already prepared. The problem with copying and especially with copying portraits, of course, in order to achieve 100% similarity. Here we go Refstepped on this rake. The biggest ambush here is that the artist can inside to feel that he seems to have copied everything, even perfectly, but not to see any disproportions or discrepancies, because in his head it is established a certain correspondence, connection, between what he sees and how he sees it depicts. That is, an outside observer can see the difference, but someone who sketches - no. Specifically for this work. First lol - Obama Ref - white :-D. Second lol - Obama in this version looks like Putin with his eyes :-D. Yes, the face in the original is lighter than the background, but it is still DARK - dark beige colors. But not bright white :) The socket of the left eye should still be darker and bolder, just like the right eye is depicted - accordingly, the similarity is lost glance. The mouth in the original is also a little more prominent. Well, the last thing - why was it move away from the interesting pop art 5-color style of the original, leaving this blue highlights on the face and expanding the palette to almost 10 shades (with taking into account brightness)? In general, all these are nitpicks, of course, which separate this work from perfect quality copy. If we discard them, then the work is 6-7 points out of 10. And great to see a new author on compo! Good job for a start.

riskej: KILL PIXELS AND LEAVE ONLY COLOR TRANSITIONS. Tell me more nothing. If the copy had been redrawn more closely to the original, then the place it waswould be higher. And so - nice, unconventional in terms of the use of colors, but a bit dry and dirty due to unnecessary pixels. I gave it 4/5 for freshness. And by the way, here it is - young blood. It turned out very well for a debut. If If you believe the description, then the author is from Turkey! We are very glad to see and hope that the work far from the last.

06. alternative world games / msa

diver: Work beyond my understanding. I don't know where these come from pictures and who is msa. Yes, I certainly remember the game with the same name - Alternative World Games. But just like that, to draw such cool works on the fly - I I don’t know how this is possible. I really love this genre - splash screens for a new one okay, in a modern version. I myself dream of drawing these for my favorite games, but... for example, my ideas go no further than redrawing a full-color poster/inlay extended. Where does the plot of this work come from - I also cannot understand, because that it’s not a copy, or the original is unfamiliar to me. Overall, I'm completely confused and I rate the work extremely highly. Both from a content and technical point of view vision.

riskej: This work won on my personal voting list. me always I was fascinated by the game graphics of the 80s and early 90s, but here it’s very bold and successfully turned out to embody a new game in the screensaver while preserving the spirit of that time. NewI didn't see anything, but it's very bold. I think so, most Speccy artists had or have a desire to redraw some old picture from your favorite game. Me, for example, for a long time I had a desire to redraw the splash screen for the game "Fist". Msa also wanted drew. Applause for the idea, cartoonishness, unconventionality for party pictures, work with textures and color.

05. Cadfael. Limit of Faith / Samanasuke

diver: Interesting work. Yes, of course, it's just b/w. But the subjects chosen Samanasuke is always mysterious to me. Why is he drawing this? How does he do this inventing? If he himself had not admitted that this was a shot from the series, someone would did you find out? I'm definitely not. Therefore, even copies from this author are always interesting to me. And content and a kind of non-standard technique. The only wish is a little a little more color!

riskej: After "Lamia" this work is perceived only as a rough draft a sketch, nothing more. What hurts the eyes the most is the monotony of the sky in the windows and some unnaturally shaped roof with a cross. The style of Samanasuke’s work is fresh and interesting, but in my subjective opinion, even before was not fully formed. The brushstrokes still look like a skillful attempt to hide flaws anatomy and reluctance to detail the work.

04. 12 monkeys / CVM

diver: I love it. I love 12 Monkeys, I love this technique, these textures, I love CVM for the Spectrum version of the b/w work by Tadaomi Shibuya. I've been planning for a long time try similar experiments, I’m glad that I’m not alone :) Criticize here nothing, great work.

riskej: Tadaomi Shibuya is without a doubt great. His works are always spicy, dynamic, fresh. CUBIC! Always undertake to redraw such works Great responsibility: minimal deviations in proportions and contours will inevitably lead to the failure of the entire work as a whole, especially on the Spectrum with its low resolution. CVM pleased me. VERY! I was pleased with the accurate rendering of contours and with the boldest a step in an attempt to redraw the work of this style, and even that on my own added colors that were not in the original work. With them it was really only two options: draw in gigascreen (but CVM does not have this practice) or display grayscale texture. But the second option is almost always a losing one. COLORS - THIS IS JUICE. I gave the work 4/5 only because it could be done in the gigascreen juicier.

03 Heteronexion / rOm

riskej: The special thrill of Heteronexion is how it looks on a real hardware without an interlace technology. ROm uses so called "chessboard" gigascreentechnology for reducing the flickering. Nicely done! It is needed a cast-iron will for paint so many dots on each of two screens. But slow flickering in the picture is just a technical moment and monkey's hands of the girl can't be acquitted. And after all the picture is turned out more standard than gigascreen.

diver: Woohoo. Some of rOm's works smell like a commodore. Still something looks like Electric's work from '97-98. Either by composition or by glance heroes pointing to the left :-D. Now specifically about work. The guy is good. I won't to judge whether it’s possible to draw cooler in a gig, it’s probably possible, but I haven’t drawn yet and I can't do better. Aunt. The hair is depicted interestingly and the pose is generally maintained. But But for the face I almost didn’t have enough resolution, minor problems with the ear and, of course, HANDS. rOm, I'm sorry, but these are practically tentacles :) I understand what we mean are thin hands and long fingers, emphasis on the floor... but there’s a little it didn’t work out :) Overall, it doesn’t spoil the impression, on the contrary, it gives some mystery - maybe she’s not a person? That's why the guy is so thoughtful :-D.

2. Holy Fucking Shit by LCD

riskej: no comments.

diver: It's a pity that it's just a conversion. Well yes, tweaked a little by hand (a little because the letters are crooked). And yes, overall funny and brighteroriginal. But this not 2nd place, obviously.

01 Autumn Virtuoso / piesiu

riskej: Not the best one from Piesiu, though pretty good in details and colors. But I totally dislike the theme. After about a ten times of watching the picture finally I realize that the blue background dithering is also a face of an old man. Looks slightly unfinished. And all picture looks slightly unfinished too. Actually Piesiu's appearing on the scene was a good incentive for the improvement of all Speccy artists. Including me. Smile. Beyond a shadow of doubt he is a talented artist.

diver: My writing is almost a genius. If not a genius, then definitely talented. The feeling that he manages to embody the conceived image, if not 100%, then very close to this. This work has an unusually rich foreground. Backdrop not bad, but the monochrome in the upper right corner looks like a flaw. Although, This is probably how it was intended. Because add brightness or color there, or just a few blunt strokes of color wouldn't be hard at all. But to hell with these nitpicking, we have 100% first place.

riskej: I love FOReVER party. I'm already waiting for Forever 13. I'm waiting and counting paint a great picture there.

Who's with me?
