I once saw the “Black Metal” section in “Heresy”. Well, I think
another review of the black hat... But no, it’s a review, but not really.
This kind of “rock educational program” from Ash led me to some
ry thoughts. Actually, I had these thoughts for a long time, but re-
I decided to pour them out to the readers only now, since there is a need
hope, (or fear :)) that among the readers of "Heresy" they will find -
there are heads that, even in this delirium, will be able to dig up grain
truth.

Well, as for the section...In my opinion, not really
apt name... Black-metal is just one of the styles in
heavy music, while the range of metal fans is much
wider than this direction. I would call all this music not even
rock, no... more like something like "Dark Metal". And in Russian I
I would put it this way: “the music of Gloomy Melodies.”
At first glance: what seems to unite Iron Maiden,
King Diamond, Tiamat and Dimmu Borgir? But there is, there is something in common.
This is a kind of internal harmony that permeates the entire Dark-Metal my-
language
Firstly, all this music carries negative energy.

Such a person has three options: open his veins, drink himself to death,

I’m too lazy to explain this in my own way, but I have this point on this matter

Only some narrow-minded parents can think that

I’d better tell you a little about the group itself and its work. Per-
What distinguishes this team is its originality. Not only that
cam the group's style has no equal, but every FNM album
unique in its own way and not like others. The texts are especially good.
This is not Sepultur's set of "fuck", "shit" and "die" - here
and deep philosophy, and lyrics, and a fair amount of “crazy stuff”.
Without going into the history of the group, I will say that they were all...
6 main albums were released (not counting collections and albums).

     1. We Care A Lot'852. Introduce yourself'87
     3. The real thing'89
 4. Angel dust'92
     5. King for a day... fool for a lifetime'95
     6. Album of the year'97

The first two discs were recorded with a vocalist named Chuck Mose-
ly, the rest - with Mike Patton. Once again hanom-
I know that all albums are different, i.e. noticeably different in sound.
For those who haven't heard FNM at all, I advise you to start with "King for a
day..." or from 97, and then smoothly move on to earlier ones.
Now, unfortunately, the group no longer exists, but if you are “hooked”
creativity of the group, I can recommend Mr.Bungle and Fantomas - pro-
projects of ex-vocalist FNM.

                             TIAMAT

I “discovered” this team relatively recently. And immediately she
took a place in the top five. The group is really high
classroom In style they began to work as death-doom, (translated
first album) then gradually turned into doom, well, the last two
I would probably call the latest disc doom-psychedelia. What is valuable is
that the team's style is not similar to any of the famous smoke bands
groups, and at the same timethe most real doom. Not
completely clean, of course, but that only benefits him. A lot
lyrics in the texts, transparent minor atmosphere of the melodies, very
rich sound range. The mood is predominantly melancholic,
like rotuk-metal.
     Albums:

     1. Sumerian cry'90
     2. The astral sleep'91
     3. Clouds'92
     4. Wild honey'94
     5. A deeper kind of slumber'97
 6. Skeleton Skeletron'99

It’s better to start with “Wild honey” or “Clouds”, but who cares
whichever you like best. The first albums sound harsher, the last ones -
deeper and more melodic.

                         LAKE OF TEARS

Pure water of doom, without any admixture of death. There is, however,
Some compositions have thrash elements, but they are quite rapmo-
fit perfectly into the melody. The sound of y LOT is more lyrical,
than the same TIAMAT, here, I would say, there is a little more light,
so to speak. Unfortunately, there is no complete discography

 2. Headstones'95
     3. Forever autumn'99

Somewhere in the middle there was also the album "Crimson cosmos", the sound
closer to 95. “Greater art” sounds more “thrash”, “Not-
adstones" - more powerful and brighter, the last disc is the most melodic.

                          KING DIAMOND

This is a completely different matter. Defining the KD style is very difficult,
there's a mixture of speed-metal, thrash, and a little doom... in general,
cocktail Yes, KD exists in two guises: King himself
Diamond and Mercyful Fate. MF is the home band of the vocalist and leader,
(King Diamond is his nickname) from which he once
left, but along with his solo career he also sings in the former group
ne, since replacing his vocals is very, very problematic.
Actually, multivocalism in one person is the distinctive
KD card.

                          IRON MAIDEN

Although Ash commemorated this gang with an anecdote about a strong hedgehog,
I can’t pass such a legendary group in silence. In the presentation
nii, I think they don’t need it. Here we can only say one thing -
total rulez, despite that very “lightness”. I just want to
I should add that to “complete the collection” it wouldn’t hurt you to also find
Dickinson's solo albums, of which, in my opinion, there are 4 or 5 (so far,
Damn, I can’t find everything on CD). Dickinson's solo work
It’s not that it’s not at all similar to IM, but it’s not so monotonous,
that I value him above IM.

I like "Seventh son..." most of all. In second and third place -
"The X factor" and "The number of the beast"/"Fear of the dark".

                            DARKSEED

Quite an interesting German team. They work at the intersection
a combination of thrash and doom, sometimes with a slight gothic twist. Something
reminiscent of Crematory, but not as monotonous. In the last album
Electronic "troubles" have also been added. The lyrics are darkly lyrical
kind, but without brutality. I haven’t heard all the albums, but very re-
I recommend, as it seems to me, the best one - “Give me light”.

                         PARADISE LOST

Cult doom/death team. At one time they occupied
leading positions in their genre (along with Amorphis, MDB and Tia-
mat) but the last two albums already sound frankly pop and
barely expressive. All their best work is located around ce-
mid 90's. Discography may be incomplete.

      1. Gothic'91

                         MARILYN MANSON

Quite a young team that made a real sensation in
the world of the music business. The style can be described as
alternative industrial, the sound is very “electronic”, but at the same time
The same time differs from standard "German marches". First
the disc still soundsmore or less “traditionally”, the second is a package without
Miya, the third is the most powerful and original work. Well, after-
the last one (for now) looks somewhat softer and more melodic in comparison
disagreement with the previous ones.

     1. Portrait of an American family'94

     4. Mechanical animals'98

So... I see the article has gone on for a long time. ;)) What I haven’t mentioned yet-
zero? Well, finally, I’ll give you a selection of interesting teams that
worth a listen.

 1. ANATHEMA "The silent enigma" - slow and very dark
doom, almost without death bells and whistles.

     2. ANTHRAX "Sound of white noise"
                "Stomp 442"
"Volume 8 - the threat is real"
A killer "chopping" in the best traditions of thrash.

     3. GRAVE DIGGER - almost all of their albums are the same, but
You can listen to a couple of things for a change. The best is somewhere in
mid-90's, although the latest discs are also okay.

     4. LACRIMOSA - everything! A charming "gothic" group.

5.MANOWAR"Louder than hell" - in my opinion, the best album,
although someone can argue with me.

 6. MEGADETH - that's it!

     7. MINISTRY "Psalm 69..."
                 "Filthpig"
                 "Dark side of the spoon"
The most industrial, but very solid, oco-
especially "Psalm 69...".

     8. RHAPSODY "Legendary tales" - very original spe-
ed-gothic :)) group. It makes no sense to collect all the albums
(monotonous) but one or two won't hurt.

     9. SOUNDGARDEN "Superunknown"
                    "Down on the upside"
Oddly enough, it's grunge. But not like Nirvana, but
much better. :)) The sound, of course, is lighter, however
the mood is camoe it. "Black hole sun" alone is worth it!

     10. TESTAMENT "Low" - the best album of the team, style - hard
