- Greetings, Jonathan. I am a site reviewer dedicated to Spectrum - ZX Planet. The site has a section
interview, and I hope you will also answer a few of our questions in order to place yours in this section interview. By the way, my personal opinion is that today you creator of the best emulator (I bet you like this everywhere) flattering, huh?) So, do you mind if I ask you a few questions? - Of course, no problem :) - When you got your first Spectrum compatible computer and do you still have it? - I purchased my original Spectrum with 8 KB of memory on Christmas in 1983 and I still have it, along with ZX-Spectrum 128, +2 and +3, which I also purchased later. - What prompted you to create the ZX-Spectrum emulator? Their own and so at that time there was quite a lot? - In my last year of work at Uni (199H), I saw the Spectrum emulator 1.7 from Peter McGavin for the Amiga, which worked on mine ACHOO/OZO. Soon I started writing my own emulator, however I abandoned this matter due to lack of time. - How many years have you been involved in ZX-Spectrum emulation? - It all depends on what is meant by this term. First, I saw a JPP emulator on my assistant's computer at Uni. Then, after finishing my education, I lost interest in it until until I saw ZxZ2 in the spring of 2OO1. I counted it not bad, but the version was already quite old and the author abandonedproject. The sound didn’t work on any of my cars. correct. What I really wanted to see in the emulator is this microdrive support, since I had a number of old ones stored programs on media and I wanted to restore them. I I had my eye on Z8O/WinZ8O, but then I decided to write my own own. Working on creating basic procedures for Spectaculator began sometime in June 2011 (shortly after how I returned from my honeymoon). - Are you involved in any other projects related to Spectrum and from other areas? - No, now Spectaculator takes up all my time - what are your plans for Spectaculator for the future? - Version B.O will have a built-in disassembler. - What characteristics of the emulator, in your opinion, can beimproved in the future? - The emulator will be improved through adding new features because I'm happy with how the main features have been implemented to date - Do you think it is legal to use games in an emulator? format? - I agree to the terms and conditions presented on www.worldofspectrum.org/permits. We should strive to get as many permissions as possible from game manufacturers and publishers on their distribution. - What is your favorite game? - Starquake. - And your favorite game manufacturer? - Hewson. - Have YOU created programs for other platforms, not just PC? - for Spectrum (it goes without saying) and Amiga. - What was the most difficult thing when dealing with emulation? - Understand without a debugger why the game is not working properly. - Has the emulator been noted in the magazines, or is this still in the future? - The emulator was featured in the May issue of a Romanian magazine Level in 2OOZ. He was also recognized by RS Zone magazine "Emulator of the month" last year - Have you played remakes of Spectrum games? - Saber Wolf and Lunar Jetman. Lunar Jetman - that's the deal :) - How many people helped write Spectaculator? - I wrote the code alone, but many people helped - with reports on bugs found, technical information (Mark Woodmass in features). I am, of course, very grateful to the people who write to the conference comr.sys.sinclair - Why Spectaculator is the best emulator? - Excellent emulation, many possibilities and excellent graphical interface. It's probably the interface that makes it so popular. II wanted to write an emulator that would could be used by anyone, without special knowledge in the field computers. Until now, many emulators have been written for very savvy people :( (even my father can run Spectaculator, download Manic Miner and start playing ;)) - Thank you very much for your time! Can we place a link to your home page on our site? Not worry - these are not links to a downloadable file :) And besides, We welcome everyone who joins our forums. - Of course, post the link. - Thanks again for your help and for the wonderful emulator!!! - no problem, it was nice talking. - If you haven't downloaded Spectaculaor yet, I recommend do it right now with www.spectaculator.сом и начать играть в классические игры! Оригинал статьи - Hi Jonathan, I'm а contributor то the Spectrum website ZX Planet - we've got ап interviews section оп there and I was hoping you might kindly answer the following questions for us то post оп that section of our site! For the record, I personally think yours is the greatest emulator bar попе (flattery gets you everywhere, eh?) Anyway, here goes with the questions, hope you don't mind! - Sure, по problem :) - When did you first own а Spectrum Computer and have you still got it?- I got му original Ч8k rubber speccy ат Christmas '83. I've still got it along with а toast rack 128, а +3 and 2 further rubber Ч8ks. - What made you decide то code а Spectrum emulator - there's а lot out there now? - During му final уеаг ат Uni ('9Ч), I saw Peter McGavin's Spectrum 1.7 оп the Amiga which ran а treat оп му AЧООО/ОЗО. I started writing му own emulator shortly afterwards but abandoned it as I didn't have the time. - How long have you been in the Spectrum emulation scene? - Depends what you mean. I originally saw JPP оп а мате's machine ат Uni sometime in '93. After completing му degree, I lost interest until I saw zxЗ2 in the spring of 2ОО1. I thought it was quite good, but had dated somewhat and had been abandoned Ьу the author. The sound also never worked properly оп any of му machines :( What I really wanted was Microdrive support as I had а bunch of old programs оп carts I wanted тоrecover. I looked ат Z8О/WinZ8О but then decided то write му own. I started working оп the emulation core for Spectaculator around June 2ОО1 (after getting back from honeymoon!) - Аге there any other projects you аге working оп, either Spectrum based ог otherwise? - Uot ат the moment. Spectaculator currently takes all му free time. - Do you have further plans for the Spectaculator emulator? - Version б.О will have ап integrated debugger - Which areas of the emulator do you feel can Ье improved in the future. - Improvements will probably come in the form of new features. I'm really happy with the current state of the existing features.- Do you have ап opinion that your willing то share, regards the legalities of playing emulated games? - I'm in agreement with this: http://www.worldofspectrum.org/permits/. We should strive то get as manyfree distribution agreements from software authors and publishers as possible. - What is your favourite game? - Starquake - And your favourite software house? - Hewson - Have you ever created software for any machine other than the РС? - Spectrum (of course) & Amiga.- What did you find was the toughest part of the emulation process? - Tracking down why the odd game didn't work properly without а debugger. - Has your emulator been оп any magazine cover discs, ог will it Ье in the future? - It was оп the May 2ООЗ issue of LEVEL in Romania. It was also 'emulator of the month' in РС Zone last уеаг. - Have you played any Spectrum game remakes? - Sabre Wulf & Lunar Jetman. Lunar Jetman is the business ;-) - How many people helped то write Spectaculator? - Just ме but people certainly helped with bug reports, technical information (Mark Woodmass in particular) and suggestions. I ам, of course, very indebted то all the peoplethat contributed то the сомр.sys.sinclair FAQ. - Why is Spectaculator the best? - Excellent emulation, vast array of features and ап excellentGUI. The GUI part is probably what makes it stand out. I wanted то write ап emulator that *everyone* could use without needing а degree in Computer Science ог something. Most emulators аге still written Ьу techies for techies :( Even му Dad can open Spectaculator, load ир Manic Miner, and start playing ;-) - THAUKS for your time, we really appreciate it! Can we рор а, link то your home page оп our site (don't worry we'll пот hotlink any downloads!) - plus we'd love anyone то link то our Forum... - Sure, рит а link оп there. - Once again, thanks (in anticipation) for helping, and thanks for а great emulator!!!- Ио probs, nice speaking with you. - If you haven't downloaded Spectaculator ует then i suggest you head over there UOW and get playing those classics: http://www.spectaculator.сом/
