Как сделать самую отпадную дему !
Часть 1
Что делает одну дему конфеткой, a другую - полным дерьмом?Why does one become a legend, and the other dies in
obscurity? How can we explain that your demo masterpiece turned out to be
only eighth in the party you intended to conquer?
In my articles I will try to answer these questions and
tell you about how to make awesome, or almost
awesome, demo or intro.
Being a sysop of Coders F/X BBS, for the last 4.5 years, I
I looked at everything that reached my board -
all demos from all parties 92-98. After this I might be able to
master the writing of this voluminous scientific work. After reading it,
you, of course, can disagree with me, but if he
seems worthwhile to you, please let me know.
Okay. The subject of our first conversation...
1.Design
Design is what makes code, music and graphics real
demo. If it’s not there, your work is just a shabby broom made of
procedures, pictures, background music - and nothing more! On camom
in fact, it is unlikely that most of us think that design is
this is not at all the appearance and theme of the demo, because that’s how it is, because
design is how things look.
Here are the following chips that make up the concept of “design”:
-Colors-Choosing the right palette is the most important thing in design
demos. I repeat: THE MOST IMPORTANT!
Colors reflect the mood of your work. Bright - give
a feeling of joy and attract attention. Note, by the way, that
white color compares favorably with all others in that
gives the camo a strong feeling of emptiness - even stronger than
black.
In general, colors have a very strong influence on people voting for
work on demoparty.
Have you ever wondered what demo-compo usually
be held in the evening, at the end of the party? But this means that
at the beginning of democompo the audience gets pretty tired, they just fall asleep or
dying of boredom while waiting for the compo to start. Agree that
a bright, colorful deme will wake them up much better than some
dark dregs.
Funny (comic style - approx.) demos or intros are usually
they also use bright colors, but not like the “summer” demos, o
which we just talked about. Funny (or "spring") demos
imply a pure border and the same corresponding friends
friend colors. While in the "summer" demos you can
use differenta set of the same color (shades),
"spring" demos need colors that are not contaminated by shadows.
Let me give you the old ACME work as an example.
Good use of color can also be seen in the demos
from Future Crew, although they tend to mix it up with "summer"
style with "autumn".
Signs of “autumn” style can be considered: dark colors,
scenes located in space or emptiness, which, however, are not
sometimes it interferes with using something bright, for example blue,
red and gold colors to create the desired effect.
I can also recommend demos from Cammora - their style is usually
wins at demoparty.
Finally, the last style is “winter”. It's gloomy, dark
colors that are best used on truly new and
amazing effects. These colors darken the background, a cam effect,
on the contrary, they make it bright, drawing the viewer’s gaze to it.
However, if these colors appear on already released effects,
it just becomes boring.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: the projectors on demoparty have idiotic
the habit of not showing dark colors, bright colors too
smear, and ordinary ones - show as the same color.
So don't be surprised whenthe dark background in your demo is simply not
will notice; the white dot will turn into a huge spot and devour
all the colors surrounding it, and a smoothed image (anti-alised -
approx. per.) will be too smooth. Moreover, all these inconsistencies
can serve both good and bad, depending
on how you use them.
A good selection of colors makes the deme look better. K
For example, when working with vectors, it is recommended to use
colors that will “hide” the vertices, making them smoother.
Textures also need the right choice of colors to make
make the object realistic and smooth the vertices of the polygons.
-Speed-
In terms of speed, demos should adhere to the following
standards:
- “summer” demos should be either slow, relaxing, or
very fast, hyperactive.
- “spring” demos, initially focused on humor,
should be fast (but not too fast) and UNDER NO EVENT -
SLOW.
- “autumn” demos should be rhythmic, with fast or
medium speed.
-"winter" demos should run either on slow or
average speed.
Making “winter” demos fast is like yelling:
"What the fuck is design?!"
Well, and of course, speed always depends on the third element
design...
- Music -
The third aspect of good design. Yes, the third one is for you,
of course, not the first and not even the second, unless you are going
make a video clip or trackmo. In trackme (which, in general,
just a computerized version of the video clip) you build
effects around the music, instead of making the music part of
a single whole.
If you want to watch the tracks, take the "KTV" intros from
Kosmic or "Panic" by Future Crew.
So, you know in what style you will make the demo, you know,
what colors to use. Therefore you know which
speed your demo should be written and what should be in it
be music. So what? Do you think everything is simply planned now?
perfect? :) The musician is still in business, since emy is yet to come
write a good track, a melody that would listen well even
without itselfdemos. Good music should attract attention
make effects brighter and more expressive. However, the most important
the rule when creating a demo is still perfect
synchronization to music. Use sound effects
redo parts of the demo, change the music - do everything to
achieve PERFECT synchronization. This is the difference
between a good and an awesome demo, or, more simply put, between the 3rd
and 1st place at the party.
- Intermission - (intermission)
Don't rush out of your seat in search of your duty dictionary...
This is the name of the effects that are used to transition from one
parts of the demo into another, as well as what makes a lamer demo
professional: extinguishing-ignition, morphing, camera and others.
They all follow certain rules:
1. Same colors. When extinguishing and igniting, use one
and the same original color, otherwise everything will look very
delusional. This is necessary for proper communication between two different
effects.
2. Transitions. Each effect must be part of the previous one and
next effect. This demo looks like a single whole, a
not as a banal series of effects following each other.
3.Non-Stopmusic. Music should not show the viewer
that a new effect has begun. Make it sound like it's all
dema - one continuous continuation of one big awesome
changing effect.
You can find some good examples of transitions in the demo
Second Reality from Future Crew.
Follow these three rules and you will be able to do
really high quality demo.
I know, I know! I didn't say anything about the effects themselves, which
should be in the demo - it will be in the article about CODE. now it's ours
we're talking about DESIGN.
- Subject -
Many people believe that in order to make a good demo they need a THEME.
This may be true, however it depends on what sense you
you put into this word. If you think that THEME is design -
you are deeply mistaken, if in your opinion the TOPIC is a plot, you
just a romantic. A good demo has no theme and doesn't get stuck in loops
on some plot. If you think that TOPIC means
creating a demo, the action of which would take place in some
virtual place - you are right. And, saying "my theme is the forest" or
"my theme is space", you are moving in the right direction.
Take a look atwonderful demo Sunflower from Pulse. All ee
the action takes place in some garden, there is a pond, grass,
animals - space scenes, as you probably noticed, there
no. The plot demo, of course, may be original, but good
- hardly. Subjects are good for one or more scenes, e.g.
battle scenes or racing scenes, but not for the entire demo as a whole. Look
around - who wins at the party? Demos with cool effects or
plot? Best Story Dem - Kolme Piente Pukkia (Three
kid) from Moppi production took only fourth place in
Party97. Another demo with a good plot - The Quest of Khan from
Immortals - became the first at the Ritual party, although I had a hard time believing it
would be that she could take such a high place on
international party.
Hence the conclusion - make a demo, the action will take place in
one virtual place. Forget the plot. And don't get hung up
only on him alone. This won't work!
