CAFe'99 - Impressions of CAFe'99.

   Good Night, All!


   Impressions of CAFe'99 demoparty (Kazan, 28-29 August).

   For the delegations of Moscow residents (at least that part 
which included me) impression of the party and the entire trip 
as a whole remained highly positive. I think other visitors 
were a lot of fun - party held on the eve of Independence Day 
of Republic of Tatarstan, and pre-enlivened the atmosphere all 
around: on the main street (almost a copy of the Old Arbat 
street in Moscow) workers enhance all kinds of garlands, and 
under them rehearsing orchestra performing a surprisingly 
pleasant and varied music. So, walking in the morning in search 
of familiar foods (including sense that in any café offers a 
menu with such names dishes that could have some of these names 
to break the language, so book yourself dishes we do not 
dare:), we stopped to listen to some jazz quintet (oh, how we 
Maxi G.C. admired the sound of live jazz drum set! :).

And when a familiar food was still found (only in McDonalds), 
excess free smiles we received, and is located opposite the 
almost symphonic orchestra (the man twenty ... hmm, well, 
that's half a symphony orchestra - too well) delighted us a 
medley of works by Bizet:) Overall, the central part of the 
city produced a good impression: The low tidy streets (apart 
from a few ruined houses :) And a friendly atmosphere. True, 
the traffic lights met extremely rare, and they were mostly for 
decoration, as well as working properly (not all, of course, 
but nevertheless :). So, following to the place of party, we 
have loads of positive energy that was very handy, after 
sleepless nights. 

   Before you begin to describe what is happening on 
partyplace, I want to share their opinions on the work of the 
organizers. CAFe'99 - the only one I have seen party, in which 
mistakes and shortcomings, if they admitted, were not caused by 
carelessness, or stupidity of the organizers of hysteria (as in 
many other party), but only inexperience. That is, it's been 
quite prostimye shortcomings, because it was seen above: the 
organizers have made every effort to ensure that the party 
enjoyed the visitors. This very valuable. And the whole work 
was done fairly coordinated (that quite surprising, because in 
the party were represented by 4 platform, each of which took 
care of its own team. As so many people work together 
seamlessly, it's hard to explain). Everything was very quietly 
and without nerves - this has and the atmosphere party, and 
temperament of the organizers themselves - apparently, the 
ground of the strong and precise work. 

   With regard to party-place: cinema houses of culture, ie
large screen, full blackout, good ventilation, a powerful
sound system, microphones on stands, seats in excess
lounge, snack bar. Projector on first glance is not worse than
Bytefall'e, however, as it turned out, without the possibility 
of Brightness / contrast / hue, from which an image

looked small illuminated and slightly yellowish. Nevertheless,
full blackout facilities - this is a big plus, thanks to
that the image still looked good.

   Of the downsides should be noted first of all mono sound 
(same problem as in Sound Storm'e). It turned out, the 
organizers, saw two large columns on the edges of the stage, 
somehow did not even thought to check the amplifier for mono / 
stereo-type, and so clear that the stereo. Logically, and 
nothing objectionable it is not, however, whether the kids more 
experience in conducting similar events, they would check 
everyone, even the most obvious, a trifle. That's why I say 
that if any defects and were then only by inexperience ... 
Then, during a demonstration in the categories of works such as 
"intro" (ie no music), a leading always something to comment on 
and otherwise was joking, obviously, to the audience was not 
bored. Caring for the audience itself laudable, but in this 
form completely inappropriate, as it was According to the 
organizers. On the second day flaw has been corrected (Again: 
how much attention and respect for the wishes of the 
audience!). In addition, regarding the music competitions: a 
great pity that Our train arrives after the commencement of 
party, with the result that we managed only to the very end 
multichannel music compo. It is a pity, because only the next 
song contest (4 channel MOD) able to hold a human being, 
namely, to rebuild, finally, sound system (never trust the 
default settings:) and organize a conclusion on the projector 
room of ongoing work (instead of every time to declare a 
microphone). But, more importantly, that any disadvantages 
noticed immediately corrected, no one treated by principle "and 
so will come down." 

   With the negatives, like, clear. Everything else - plus! :)

both day party ended not too late, and there was time

socialize, to look at the projector and all sorts of videos 
demo, and during the breaks could go to the cafe), girls ... :)

It should be noted that the non-competitive time viewer is 
invited enough variety of entertainment. For example, people 
from different towns showed their commercials (something 
reminiscent of HRG-shnye video:) and I was honored to 
prosvyatit audience for foreign demoparty, that is, demonstrate 
and comment on the video with EuroNews on Assembly'99 (thanks 
Digimind'u who heroically pumped me multi-megabyte MPEG 
modem!). Has also been shown to work with Assembly animation 
compo (second place - the most valuable thing in my opinion), 
which caused a lot of smiles and loud applodismety (as, indeed,

Unfortunately, the projector did not go demo "Moral Hard

   On the submitted papers. Well, 4 channel MOD compo, as the
quality at the Russian competitions and to the best
foreign counterparts:), and we do not disappoint. Unconditional 
masterpieces - two modules from Maxi GC But, however, were not 
very successful operation. 

   Graphics ... In 3d-render brayzovskie dominated landscapes. 
In Competition draw graphics very good works, but by the 
standards of Bytefall'a they would fall somewhere in the middle 
of the resulting list.


   Multichannel Music (I listen to it at home) - even had some 
very professional work (Xanth, Maxi GC, etc.) were just lovely 
and good things (Megus, EA, Maxwell ...), but were strangely 
low quality. Why is "weird"? Because still held preselekt, and 
I am afraid even to assume that it was screened out:). 
Although, from a chosen two works should would disqualify: one 
was exposed to paradox'99, other very similar to the remix of 
(forgive me by - I'll take off before his hat if he himself 
plays guitar, drums and sings with perfect English 
pronunciation). Nevertheless, half work is worth it to keep 
them in a collection of modules. 

   Intro ... I'm a little confused right now and not in a 
position diferentsirovat work on the nominations: PC 1Kb intro, 
BK 4K-intro, ZX 4K-intro ... Like, everywhere there was good 
work. That PC 4Kintro I still somehow remember: two works were 
very much interenye. 

   Demo compo smallness was not held. That is one DeMouy still
brought, and the other did not have time to finish, etc. Full 
competition did not, as the authors demonstrate the 
non-competitive (ie we have:) did not want to. Well, that's 
okay - in my opinion, no one upset. But it was his short 
animation compo (think Four of the works, and quite funny).


   After the animation compo organizers withdrew count
vote (for the second day since the first was calculated before)
but we found behind the scenes the old piano (with razdolbanymi
keys, but a great mood!) and appeared unclear
from girls-bitlomankami sang "Imagine", and behind it, and
"First Night By The Sea":) It should be noted that even in the 
absence of the organizers of the people behaved very well. 
After closing party in the room was rubbish ... one bottle of 
beer. Everything. While the people were a hundred people:)
