            FunTop98



   Plans and schedules, writing slowly and judiciously for
month before the festival, went to place an undue burden on a 
thin thread of "life line". Old plans flew to the basket. Down 
breaks down with lengthy promotional performances. Chasing 
Compo for Compo, has not yet completed compulsory program of 
the Festival! Had the idea to put Demo Compo at the beginning, 
but decided that after all the fun should be left as always, in 
the end. Started exactly ten, as originally conceived. 
Preliminary Registration has played a positive role - all the 
participants and Guests at ten o'clock got cards and 
newsletters. Almost instantly launched their technique, 
"Peters", and 10.00 Ivan Mak received word. At this point I 
interrupted my story and give the floor to Sergei Novikov. As 
usual, the traditional observation: opinions of the author and 
editors can not match. ;-)

            Hi there!


   If the E97 was a Must Die Forever, then FT98 came just 
awesome! 


   On it was worth a look! Organizers are not pumped up - all
passed without a hitch, without a hitch, no excesses at all! All
work has been shown. All the results - announced. All winners - 
awarded. 


   A total of people gathered in 190 (the hall was full, but
all have room). Came all the elite, with the exception
that Mednonogova Fame. Specifically were: Arty / DR, Flying / 
DR, Quasar / RUSH, Exploder (Vav) / XTM, Magic Soft / XTM, 
Kano;), Unbeliever (MMA) / XTM, ALK / SOK, Antares, Diamond, 
SiR / Bytex, Eternity Industry, the authors Adventurer, Excess, 
Global Corp, Spirit / ATQ;), ROM / PGS, Colver / PGS, Power

   Unfortunately, Andrew Savichev, having spent so much energy 
for reception and registration papers, as well as Dmitri and 
Alexei Grigoriev Letaev absent.

   It all began in the 11th hour. The people quickly let (fee
ticket - 20 rubles for registered, all the money went to
prizes - to collect about 4 tys.r.!).


   From the outset, taken the work - to the beginning of the 
first component (About 11.30, IMHO) they were collected. But 
before that, where a half-hour demonstrated Sprinter. Ivan Mak 
showed a graphical editor, a local Norton, a demonstration of 
flowers and, finally, torn from some pisishnoy Toys (IMHO, Star 
Wars Rebellion) cartoon (150Mb, 4 minutes of this video). It 
differed from the original except that the distorted (?) 
Digitized voice. Price Miracle - somewhere $ 160.



   Acted E. Buder - Welkom. He surprised everyone by passing 
the NN-th sum of money in the fund Fantopa. Deed, worthy of 
respect. 


   So, commenced GFX components (images achieved the most -
somewhere 70). All this shows quite a long time (20-30 sec. On
picture). Level - very high. Lamer was not. Only 1
the picture is not "very" (Black Fish) - on average E97!
But especially steep screenshots (like the X-files) - did not 
have. Although Tee-Ray (Tracer) was involved - it works no one 
noticed, and He did not even hit the number of winners (there 
is an amendment - WB.). Lack of Great pictures can be explained 
by lack of participation in com Fil / Antares from Moscow (the 
second artist in the poll echo). 


   During the break, began to show software. Showed a demo 
version of the graphic editor Art Works from Bytex (Chisinau). 
Unknown reason, on the machine where it is shown, the editor 
often bismuth (although under the emulator, including 100% but 
emulating the Pentagon, works fine). Hung, by the way, and one 
displayed to the game. 


   Then show some other cool nemeryannom domestic game (2 of 
them were type Rebel Star, but it is steeper in all). Made by 
Captain Nemo, spoke about his KAY-1024 (286 p.).. 


   Watching the novelties of the market, people sat on the 
place: the beginning 4K Intro Compo. It showed - that 4K - a 
ceiling. More for intro is not necessary. What I saw was more 
like some demos! Rare work consisted of an effect. 3-4 parts - 
on average. AND what parts!


   Very many, incidentally, managed to shove in the 4K (packed) 
still and Mouzon! Many shocked the work of Sergei Kolotova 
(Serzh Soft), known for its strong articles in the ZX-revue at 
koderskuyu topic. At the end of the shocked audience demanded 
author. Author, oddly enough, on the form was 18-19 years. 
Thunderous applause. 

   This was the third job. Yet to be ten. I would like to
note the work of the Kirov Image Crew (Clot) and ... Already at 
the end show, working under an unhappy, 13-m, the number had 
plunged all in shock! ! It was a VAV (Exploder)!!! No such 
effect in 4K, no 104K, no one has ever seen! The audience 
cheered. As the winner of one component no doubt.



   After the intro compo zonked audience was given a big lunch. 
Faced a music. 


   Music was a lot (more than 40 tracks). Quality - awesome, 
you do not Inlayt. Professional musical equipment provided by 
EA / ATS, dragged all come. Such Sound on the Spectrum nobody 
ever heard! 

   However, the composition is not particularly original.
CSA was not. There was not and the melody, which is famous for 
ksashnye composition. Most of the work was like a pile of 
different sound effects, binds not the best way.

People frankly bored. Many did not listen. However, every 
Mouzon got three minutes specified. However, some pieces were 
quite decent. 


   So, people froze in anticipation Demo Compo. The 
announcement of It touched off a flurry of emotions.



   All the works were in the order of registration.


   The first was the deme ETC / RUSH 'Boom'. Since she was 
completely at level of the best works E'97, people saw things 
favorably. 


   The worst that it became clear, was the work of 'UFO
Group 'from Kharkiv (' Garlic Respiration '). The only 
representative of the former (?) Spectrum Capital (CBS was not) 
disappoint: except sludge plasma display was nothing. Nation 
soured ...:) 


   Coolest, clearly, was to come. All waited DeMouy Digital 
Reality, around which from the outset was hype. DR in this 
again managed to surprise everyone: deme build upon, even 
during the FT on apartment MIC'a / PGS, which was not far from 
the scene - 91 schools on the Arbat. DeMouy brought up just in 
time for the show, at the end of music compo. Flying / DR after 
that seemed clearly tormented. : | 


   But deme went number ten. And before that was a lot more 
interesting. On the level of dem: indescribable. Few of them 
are not broken its vision to E'97. Changed and class effects. 
The heaven and land. Plasma almost was not, and even one that 
was cause irritation. There was a lot of 3d-effects, ray 
tracing. 


   The people cheered deme Speed ​​Co. / XTM and ALK / SOK 
'Blame', slightly Does not the sole, which contained at least 
some plot. Others were a collection of effects, but no!


   Authors 'Blame' went through tricky. Yes, in the early going 
effects. But they are not impressed after seeing even then (6

   This is where it all started! The authors made a populist

   Other demos looked very quickly, but people waited only one 
- 'Forever' - 'Forever' - demos from DR.

   Well, what can I say? Many diverse, interesting effects, 
high-quality graphics. Unique effects. Beautiful. Individual 
pieces are met applause. 


   Reaches up to 13 work. Again VAV!!! Definitely, this number
was happy for him! After reviewing a powerful intro, about his 
participation in the demo compo somehow not thought of. 
However, saying that he did DeMouy. 5 months. And the intro was 
half composed of effects demo. This proved to be so. Dema was 
small (minute 34). But what a! 


   Unprecedented quality effects. This is a must see. Hall of 
rejoicing. Now the obvious struggle for a place: DR vs VAV. 
Whose deme more Bad? By the way, the prizes are enormous: in 
the demos: 1 place - 1,053 rubles + computer KAY-1024 (gift 
Nemo), 2 place - 800 something rubles, 3 - to 500-something. 
Other components, of course, less attractive in terms of 
remuneration. 


   While the winners of all for myself have already identified, 
was also 14-I deme. In addition, Antares, again, not in time to 
time (whatever you say, an encoder - it's small), wanted to 
show their achievements in the genre demo. The problem is that 
the authors flew 2 computers, and to the party they had spent a 
sleepless night trying to bring the work in order. Did not 
happen. I had to assemble the source code, load the files from 
the BASIC ... 

   Had intro and 4 parts. Separately. Intro was good. Graphics 
Fil'a needs no comment. Well, the music EA:) Parts of the same 
demos go stubbornly would not, or rather dropped a minute or 
two browsing.

   Six o'clock. All the components have already ended, but the 
people sitting and waiting for announcement of results. Waiting 
for a long time. 150 people sitting in hall, chatting with each 
other ... And here it is! 


   At the scene raised Alex and Vlodek and ZX-Shadow. As
not difficult to guess, they rise to announce the winners and 
present prizes and certificates (made the last great, Thanks 
Alex'u)! :) 


   The first to announce the winners 4k Intro. '3 Place - 
Eternity Industry '. '2 Place - Serzh Soft '(that is the job # 
3). '1 Place - Exploider '(Vav)! Hall vigorously applauded,

the winner and so it was predictable.

   Second place - guess who?!? Igoval! I honestly do not
expected:) And the more that the hall was not, neither he nor 
Bashtenko Oleg (Ukraine - not near-edge, far from Moscow). Had 
take the prize to me:) as it seems, the only in the hall, to a 
friend with the winner. So on my desk right now are 120 rubles 
+ diploma. Money can be sent by mail order (but 10% take-mail - 
12,000 to the wind throw conscience does not allow), and a 
diploma? In the jpeg? :) Well, sort out the soap.

   As usual, the party was a powerful incentive for creative 
people. Soon we can expect a surge of activity of the masses: a 
every newspaper and magazine will somehow described Festival as 
a consequence - increase in the number of media outlets. 2 
months MMA Oberon promises # 5, and Progress - a new DeMouy ...

   So that was the day after the Festival? By ten
watches, organizers and Moscow sysops collected in 91 schools in

they were in the Izmailovo Park, the venue of the famous Moscow
