visiting friends - article from the newspaper Optron.

           Visiting friends



   Today, a visit to our colleagues Polesie
from Ukraine - Lviv newspaper Optron. This
Electronic publishing - a kind of veteran
computer journalism at Speccy. And we
especially pleased that his wording agreed
share stories of their paper with our
readers. We would like to thank the Tertius Gaudens for sending 
me stuff. 



           PCP: how it was

  ... I was raised in the dirty elevator, written familiar 
mottos "Speccy rulez forever ". I thought the floors and 
pretends that all the same to me today waiting. I was raised in 
an elevator in order to enter into a new Spectrum group that 
played more even name.


  That's safe house. Boss - Misha
Cossacks - opens the door. It is unusual
serious. Almost all have come - I love
late, and especially - for important meetings. Almost all 
unfamiliar to me, only one, I somehow caught a glimpse of 
Misha. Total us seven people. The conversation is not very 
glued, most with sagely keep silent, everyone considers himself 
an outsider in this company. At first, said one of Misha, then

someone zainteresovlsya - and just thought
went to pour on each other.

  "What we're doing something we?"

  That's the main question shall be decided on the
gathering. And then another of many such gatherings ... This 
question has not been resolved. 

   Play!

   No-ah-ah ... Long steam. People missing. We must start not 
with this. Costs itself does not pay off. And anyway ...


   Okay. If it does not fit, then log. Good, doborotny required
everything!

   Hmm ... And the material? Who are some articles on
hundreds of kilobytes to be written? And the artwork, in the 
sense that the picture there any? And the music in each 
section? A. .. 

   Yeah. Well, as a newspaper to do? She will go out often, and 
how the network will then no worse ZX-News will be. What's 
wrong? 

   Yes, nothing. A newspaper that's just you can do. And it's 
interesting, and necessary. Will be the first electronic 
publication in the Western Ukraine! 

   And decided.

   Thus was born the new newspaper with so now all our readers 
a familiar name - "Optron" ... 



             I. The first pancake

all were successful, but still caused joy and pride in its many 
parents. 

  We are ruthlessly trampled under foot all the foundations of 
printing. We invent new rules and argued with each other that 
they - the only correct ones. No spaces after punctuation, no 
alignment lines ... Much later, even had an idea

produce new, revised versions of the first issues. And later, 
we realized These errors also deserve the right to exist and 
that they will remember interesting not only to us.


  The first "Optron was like a big text file, which was placed 
at the beginning of the content of rooms. Such a terrible 
interface in which it was impossible to apply to

"OPTRON, just one number. One way or another, but the beginning 
of their paper was laid. 



               II. Disputes


  Around "Optron" constantly hovered disputes.
Each of us were indifferent to it all
case, everyone has an opinion about the ideal
newspaper and expressed it. From such a debate and raised 
"Optron" - such as it I have now.


  When the question arose about the support of the newspaper

opposite to each other. Our first Chief Editor - Rasp -

all arms and legs fighting for this insufficiently studied and

this:

needed. If someone at least a little, even half-seriously

  Since this topic has been linked yet another controversy -
Do intruha in the newspaper. On the one hand, beautiful, and 
with another - significantly increasing the size that will not 
be much to a place where "Optron" will travel to his native 
city network. We argued long enough. As a result - so far

in our paper there is no intro. And do not think it will 
continue. 



      III. Fiction

  Any true 'Optocouplers "the reader remembers,
that in the first eight rooms, we successfully
published a rasskazets. Wrote it
Stephen King, known strashilschik. Author,
not popular with everyone, however, is good - in their own way, 
and something else. I can not say, well we did or bad - 
readers, and our own attitude to this was different. But just 
to say that if then we would not have started at least a 
reprint, it is unlikely litstranichka would have appeared in 
general and has taken root.

  Poor overseas writer never
and discovers that he co-wrote "OPTRON" and helped to stand on 
his feet, receiving thus a little more fame.


  The baton was picked up more "other" writers, mostly, somehow 
connected with the editorial board. However, their work 
appeared in "Optocouplers" not through connections ... Not quite

Bluth.

  Back in N2 was published a story by Anton
Gorshkov - something like a parody of the mystic
using some techniques Leonid
Morgunov. Anton - my friend, who
can, and Spectrum is not seen - even in
school years, dabbled in such things. I think not mistaken in 
supposing that it was its first publication. He made his debut 
as writer, in "Optocouplers" I do. Rasskazets by

the spirit of a little reminiscent of the writings Gorshkova, 
was my pride. 

  Separately I would like to note the story of Sergei Vasiliev 
(our artist and poet Protein) "Headache Colonel Howell" based 
on all the good friends of various Spectrum toys. Written 
masterful. Simple and original. Perhaps Best of all published on

  A Diary of Joan Scalp 'delight,
above all, interesting idea. Bored "X-Files" just asking for
parody. Well, "The Case of the flying sausage" in general is 
very funny - only in our boring reality mysterious stories have 
such a prosaic basis! 



               IV. ZX vs PC


  That's really Eternal dispute between the two camps! In
"Optocouplers," he also found its echo - and
quite powerful. I stirred a porridge, moving
from the English one article about the purchase of Microsoft's 
part - and quite large - shares Apple. And not just translated, 
but even added to it all their own lengthy comments. The main 
focus was the lack of creativity on the PC and the unethical 
treatment of those methods with people who practiced Microsoft. 

  The answer was not long in coming: after a couple of
weeks from the Baltic states received an email
letter from John'a. I still remember one
his words: "Strong is more powerful processor"
- What? John really did not object,
only brought a couple of napodhodyaschih analogies
explained why he still bought a PC, and
complained to the author of the article that
hurt PC.

  This letter was cross-commented me and rasp, and contained in
its arguments smashed to smithereens. Rasp has long been 
interpreted John'u in personal correspondence, what's what ... 

  There was another response from a certain
"Ex-Speccy User'a. His line of argument
was well thought out, and not around it
Supported PC. I still am wondering - who would

  Now it is difficult to assess the significance of this 
debate. As for me, I, despite significantly changed 
circumstances, and now believe that the PC is difficult to 
realize themselves, and I am fully confident that the products 
of the company Microsoft, as she is far from ideal. But I must 
admit: the PC is a great toy and something else.

tell readers "Polesie" on the first
steps of our "Optron. And then our

maturity. Some authors and newspaper columns were leaving,
