    Хочу  отдельно  сказать  о  Wild  demo  compo.  Ранее мне не
пpиходилось  видеть pабот с этого конкуpса - дело в том, что они
лишь  называются  "demo".  а  самом  деле  это  кусочки видео, с
единственным   лишь   огpаничением   -   по   пpодолжительности.
Коpоткометpажные  фильмы.  Было  пpедставлено несколько pабот, и
большинство  было  интеpесно  смотpеть.  Одна из них -Asminator
(a parody of Terminator-2), I remember more than others. "2025.
Quake rules the world" :-) There were also parodies of the sensational Star
Wars.

    Filling the gaps they showed Second Reality (stormy
applause, everyone stands up :), Crystal Dreams 2, a few more
old demo and, in particular, the old but very interesting Wild
demo (let me remind you - this is a video clip), in which the authors mock
primitive effects.  First a bun appeared on the screen
rotating on a thread and the inscription is something like “10000 polygons”.
Then the same bun, bitten on one side, the inscription read
already: "23451 polygons". The bitten bun contained something
about "45223 polygons" :) After the splash screen that read "real balls"
Balls began to roll across the screen in different directions. 3D duck
identified with a rotating plush duck, water - with water
splashing in the toilet. In general, people were having fun. Come and sit down
to our left is Abyss and, apparently, several more people from among
organizers.  Chatting with each other in Finnish, periodically
We were resolving some issues over the radio.

    After looking around, at about 3 am we set off again...
That's right - SLEEP! There was little time left for this - at 8 am
The Amiga demo compo was about to start. Damn, I still need some sleep
take more time.



Z-Z-z-z...



    Naturallywe were able to wake up only for the last work
this compo (as it turned out, they could have easily done it a little more
sleep :) After the Amiga demo compo the Animation compo began, from
several works stood out for their plot and high-quality execution
"Raradise" is about toy penguins who desire freedom. PC
demo compo (by the way, this is now the name of the nomination at Assembly
_accelerated_ demo, that is, 3D is allowed
accelerator) absolutely nothing memorable, still the same
primitive, as in intro.



    The competitions are over, but there is still time left before the award ceremony
a few more hours.  and on the street there are two special cars quickly
cleaned up the consequences of Assembly - plastic bottles, pieces of paper and
other garbage.  Arod slowly dragged the computers in the direction
parking...


    After walking around the city, we returned 10 minutes before the start
ceremonies.  The lights in the hall were still turned off, people gradually
filled the stands.    the fencing turned out to be the only one
event at the party, which was delayed (by half an hour, if
I'm not mistaken).  Below, in the spotlight, appeared in blue
T-shirt, the main organizer is Jussi Laakonen (Abyss). First
he walked up and down the stairs several times, as if
rehearsed :) Then, his
AsmTV image and logo.



    Throughout the entire party competitions, the most interesting
moments and interviews were broadcast on RealVideo via the Internet.



    It should be noted that, unlike all those awarded, and
In general, those present at the party, Jussi was fresh and cheerful. Apparently on
The 8th year of the Assembly, he was able to get rid of running around with
with his tongue hanging out, without sleep or rest.   Having introduced myself and
Having greeted those gathered, Jussi began to announce the winners and
look out - someone is coming towards him from the other end of the stadium or
no.  Those who left received a bag of prizes.  If I'm correct
I understand that cash prizes were paid in various pieces of hardware
(for example, someone was given a box with a Hewlett CD recorder
Packard).  Most of the people were gloomy and taciturn.
Apparently, three sleepless nights at the computer took their toll.

greeted him especially warmly - he pushed his way through the crowd
I'll meet you.

    Before announcing the winners in the last category - demo
compo, Jussi said goodbye and announced closure
Assembly'99.  As he explained, otherwise he would not have had time
do this - after the announcement of the last winners everything would
immediately ran away ;)



    That's all. Three days full of impressions are overalong with
Assembly'99 - we set off on the way back - to St. Petersburg.



    Now, I want to draw a line.
    If they ask me “was I interested?”, I will say yes!
This is undoubtedly true.  If they ask “did you like it?”
It will be difficult to give a clear answer.  and my opinion is here
the organization of the demo party and the work on it should be separated
presented and goals achieved by it.



    The organization was almost perfect.  Except
individual small touches (for example, sometimes not everything was duplicated
in English; there was little time to sleep) there is nothing to complain about.
TV broadcasts, information, food, entertainment, large hall,
high-quality equipment - all this is beyond praise.

    As for the second question, everything is much worse here.
Extremely low level of work, indirectly encouraged by the organizers,
cannot please, I am sure of this, even themselves. In combination
with the isolation of people sitting at their computers for three days, this
can lead, or rather already leads to some kind of degeneration.
Transforming a demo party into just a party. You can't repeat these
errors.
