Pink Floyd: мир альбома "The Wall".

(c) unknown

Осенью 1977 года, сразу после окончанияconcert tour
"Animals", Yotepc began composing the first fragments
album. Your most intimate personal experience, your life
philosophy and views on family, generational conflict and problems
survival in the “atomic age state” he put into songs,
which became the foundation of a grandiose theatrical
performance and the most significant event in rock music
late 70s.
We will try to combine the story about this album with the report
from the concert hall.

Air whirlwinds, as if raised by the breath of powerful
aviation engines are spreading more and more across
the auditorium, creating an alarming feeling of something terrible and
hemuhyemoro. And then, from under the top of the dome, with a terrible whistle
a two-meter model of an airplane flies out, and over the heads of the spectators
rushes straight onto the stage, towards the mighty wall. After
a powerful explosion from a powerful fence of speakers located
around the auditorium, the first chords are heard and the light illuminates
figures of four musicians.

Is this what you wanted to see?
It's hard to know what's behind those cold eyes.
Go your own way through the veilsand masks.
                                                In The Flash

Presenting "The Wall" in concert, Floyd's entire first half
They build it on a stage out of huge 340 white plastic bricks.
The wall between the group and the hall. While there are still holes in it, the public
can see musicians - they look out through these gaps, sing from
them. But the space not filled with bricks becomes increasingly
less and less...

And if you suddenly want to take a ride
        Through life today, thin ice,
Throwing away the silent reproach, break through
Through eyes sprinkled with tears in succession,
Don't be surprised if you hear a crash
And horror flashes through your head: “I’ll be lost!”

And so you crawl, slide into the depths,
Losing my mind, sinking like a stone,
Clinging madly to the broken ice,
Into the abyss of oblivion of lifeless waters.
                                        The Thin Ice
The life story of the main character, as expected, begins
from childhood:

Daddy flew overseasLeaving only the memory of yourself -
Photo card in a family album.
Daddy, what else do I have left of you?
        What did you leave here?
Another Brick In The Wall, part 1.

The father who abandoned his family and rushed to the moneyed lands is one of
the first bricks of the wall building up in the child’s mind. What
next?

When we grew up and went to school
The teachers were waiting for us there,
Who mutilated children as best they could,
        They mocked them
 Flaunting our weaknesses.

This is from a song with the bitter title “Our Happiest Days”
life" (The Happiest days Of Our Lives). Floyd comment:

We don't need this kind of education
        We don't need thought control
        Pedagogical bullying in classrooms.
Teachers, let us be on our own.
Another Brick In The Wall, part 2.

The same words were sung in chorusschoolchildren taking to the streets
Soyet, a black suburb of Johannesburg. Demonstration
resulted in a clash with the police. The group became the author
fatal anthem, which is the history of youth and anti-war
I haven’t known the movement since the song Give Peace And Chance by John
Lennon. The South African government first stamped the album
"undesirable products", and then it was completely withdrawn from
sale and prohibited from distribution. "I'm glad," said Roger
Yotepc, - that people use my songs to fight."
And on stage, when performing this song, with grunting
the figure of a school teacher appears, spewing curses and
gesticulating threateningly with his hands above the heads of the listeners.
The action continues...

Mommy will check on everyone you know,
No, she won’t let you hang out with just anyone.
Mommy will wait until you come home
And he will always know where and with whom you were.
Mommy will always take care of health and cleanliness...
Mommy will try to make all your nightmares come true,
She'll give you all her fears
She won't let you fly, but maybe she'll let you sing,
Of course mommy will help youbuild a wall...
Mother

Motherly love, the desire to protect with all our might
child, leads to what makes him “survivable in
conditions of competition" by a member of the company. The wall here is
a symbol of the barrier between the dormant, artless and trusting
the soul of a growing child and cold, merciless patterns
success, well-being and security in a consumer society,
filled with constant conflicts. Listen, son,
mommy's instructions, and everything will be fine with you: you don't
You'll fly, but you won't crash.
The figure of the mother appears above the high wall, comfortably, as in
chair, sitting on bricks. She looks power-hungry
self-confident, and below, under her, leaning on the block
a hunched, huddled child. But the last ones are already being laid
gaps in the wall...

I'm a new guy, I'm a stranger in this town,
Oh, where have the fun days gone...
        Who will shelter a stranger?
Hey, is there anyone in this desert
Who will make me feel like a real man?Young Lust

A little love, but what would we do without it? A real man is
an entire institute, one of the pillars of society... But here’s the result:

        Day after day love cepeet,
        Like a dead man's skin
        Night after night we pretend
        As if everything was fine.
But I've gotten older, you've gotten colder
And nothing brings us joy anymore.
                                One Of My Turns.

You can feel sorry for the poor guy - a bad marriage
turned into endless hours with a stranger, vulgar
quarrels. The hero suffers from loneliness... This mental discord
for the first time gives rise to restless thoughts in a “simple guy”,
the need for something different, for something “on the other side of the wall”,
but it is too high, and isn’t it easier for someone who has lost faith,
an exhausted person gives up hope for change,
understanding the meaning of the environment?

        I don't need no weapons
I don't need drugs to calm me down
I don't need these wall slogans
        I don't needNothing!!!
All this is just another brick in the wall.
Another Brick In The Wall, part 3.

And the last brick is placed in the wall...

        Goodbye cruel world
        Today I will leave you
Goodbye, everything - there is nothing,
        What could change my decision.
        Goodbye.
                        Goodbye Cruel World

Almost the entire second section of musicians is not visible on stage, a
Slides and movies are projected on the wall.

        The wall was too high
And no matter how hard he tried -
        You can't break through it.
And the worms were already whittling away at his brain.

And at this time a savage jumps over the wall, tall
a real mammoth, and rises above the first rows of spectators,
piercing them with your reflector glances.

Hey you! There, behind the wall
You, who go your own way,You do what you're told
        Can you help me?
        Hey you! Don't tell me
        That there is no hope.
        Together we have a chance
        Separately - no.
                        Neu You
There is a long languid silence and from the speakers there is
question:

Is there anyone on the other side?
Is there anyone behind the wall?

There is no answer, but the instinct of self-preservation tells the hero
take its place in the ecological niche in which
the majority coexist harmlessly...

You don't feel pain, everything in your memory is erased,
The ship is blowing smoke far on the horizon,
And you rock on the waves,
        Your lips are moving
But what difference does it make what they babble...
The child has grown up, the dream is gone.
        I feel in a comfortable daze.Comfortably Numh

What's next? Millions, having fallen into this stupor, reach
his role in the disgusting performance of life, sitting through everything
free time from making money in a chair in front of the TV or
burning yourself out in acquiring “prestigious” things.

I have everything: 13 TV channels, where there is plenty to choose from,
I have second sight (as long as they don't turn off the lights),
I have a bag into which they throw a sweeter piece,
If I'm obedient.
I have a fashionable hairstyle and tobacco ash holes
All over my favorite satin shirt,
I have a big piano - to support my mortal remains,
I have a crazy look and a desire to fly
But there is nowhere to fly.

And if I want to call you -
No one will be home...
I have a pair of Gohils shoes and there is no point in living.
                                        Nobody Nome

During a concert performance, when the hero sings this
song, a platform appears on stage, luxuriously furnished
huge room. Sits without a single movementman in a chair
in front of the TV. What he supposedly sees on the screen
projected onto the wall: cartoon nightmares, a living hell,
horrifying even the Westerner who is accustomed to everything
TV viewer.

But here is a happy occasion for the hero - the once warming
the dream of becoming a musician, a rock star, came true. Finally,
long-awaited freedom? Well, no, since I’ve already fallen into the hands of
show business, please follow its laws!
Loneliness, indifference, alienation... But Pink Floyd
turn this topic differently: spiritual emptiness and
agreement is not such a harmless thing. They give birth
Worms. "Worms" is another symbol in the group's allegory. Worms-
this is law and order for reasonable-minded ordinary people and death
dissidents. Worms are fascism.

We are sitting in a bunker behind our wall,
We are waiting for the arrival of the Worms...
We are waiting for them to cleanse our city of rot,
We will follow the Worms, wearing black shirts,
        We'll weed out the weeds
We'll break down the windows and break down the doors,
We will get to them - blacks, reds andJews...
Do you want Britain to rule everything again, mate?
        Then follow the Worms!
Do you want all people of color thrown out of our country?
        Follow the Worms!
                                Waiting For The Worms

Yes, conformism and philistinism are a direct road to fascism and
terror. The numbness of the townspeople is deceptive; they are ready to rip your throat out
to anyone who is not “like that.”
Meanwhile, our story is coming to an end, to a denouement:
the hero recognizes himself as a human and tries to jump out of the
crazy speeding car:

Stop! I want to go home!
I take off my uniform and leave the stage
Now I'm sitting in a cell - they should tell me
Was I somehow to blame all this time...
                                        Stop

He doesn't know! He's just exhausted and lost. He still doesn't
went after the Worms. Why? Perhaps he is too kind, or
too honest, or thick-skinned... This is undoubtedly his “fault”.
And now a grotesque court scene unfolds before us.

        I haven't met a person
        More deserving of punishment
To the fullest extent of the law...
I know what you fear most
        Sentence: be exposed
In front of all the people.
 Wash off his wall!
                                The Trial

And then the wall collapses, deafeningly collapses, freeing
Hero. And on the other side are those who do not accept stupidity and cruelty
and the hypocrisy of the philistinesociety. There are not many of them. "Bleeding
hearts and artists"...

They give themselves completely to you
And there is not enough strength, and their life is short,
        Because it's difficult -
        Punch through with your heart
        A thick wall of madness.
                                Outside The Wall

The final song is a fairy-tale allegory, a symbol
of which there are tens, hundreds of outstretched hands. Participants
representations - where is he, the myth of the unattainability of Pink Floyd -
despite the real danger from the fans,
shaking a lot of hands. Not only do they fall into pieces
sparkling scenery. but also other, invisible walls.
A leisurely, unobtrusive conversation, mainly under
acoustic guitar in the hands of Roger Yotepca, turns into
reflection-monologue of the hero about the paths in this complex world, about
the true purpose of man, the hopelessness of "society
consumption" dressed in the toga of decency. "Wall" -
a work that truly embodies the best
what Pink Floyd created from the moment they got together. And
not only them, the whole fatalmusic that came out of the "underground" and
declared itself as a social phenomenon in times of crisis and
debunking imaginary myths.
The album was recorded at a studio in Cannes and complemented by a bow
section in Los Angeles. Its success allowed it to break many records
fatal business. "The Wall" was in the lead for more than six months
American commercial lists and was in
the first three of the English and Western European NME lists,
Music Week, Music Market, Salut, Bravo and others. Single Another
Brick In The Wall for the first time reconciled supporters of progressive rock and
disco, lasting 30 weeks among disco hits.
Brilliant rock show "The Wall" worth $1.5 million
was shown in several cities in the USA, Western Europe, and the series
performances at Earls Court Theater (10x15,000 spectators) became
the highlight of the 1980 London concert season. On
international fair MIOEM in Cannes 460 journalists out of 51
countries around the world called the album "disc of 1980", but the actual
its meaning outgrows this title.
