 THE EIGHT BIT TALE

N: again an article from Domination (C64). 2 introductory chapters
skipped, but read what Raver writes about the Spectrum
interesting. So to speak, a look at the Spectrum from the C64 side (-: Well,
as usual, I cannot vouch for the literalness of the translation, although the meaning

I have to say that the specky scene exists thanks to the C64 though
both scenes have evolved differently since they formed
system of groups, demos and cracking. Since Speccy was
distributed mainly in England, then thanks to patriotism
The British attitude towards the C64 as a computer has developed
negative because he was Sinclair's main competitor.
Specky quickly spread throughout Europe and in the middle
in the eighties, small cracking teams appeared in Sweden,
Denmark, Greece, Germany, Holland and, of course, England. Their
style - remove protection and exchange cracks by mail
(regular). Please note that in those days there was no
There was a disk system, so everything was done on tape.
In addition, the groups made intros that were not used in
cracks, but were released separately. With stolen graphics, music and
half homemade code. This matter became more and more
popular and soon teams began to appear that
dealt exclusively with intramural activities. And with the advent of the first disk
systems, a demo scene appeared. During the end
in the eighties and early nineties, many were created

Klowns (Denmark), Extasy-3 (England), Ethanol Soft Inc (Poland),
Theo Deuelegas (Greece), Israeli Team (guess where -
they also existed on C64), The Mad Guys (Germany), The
Unbelievables (Germany), Pentagram (Poland), The Lords
(Holland), Exodus (Poland, but not those on C64). The Lords
were a very interesting group, which included spektrumists from
C-64 group The Judges. The Lords often ran into bChyy,
Here, for example, is a quote from the "Insight" demo: "Commodore is still trying
make a computer." Although in an interview with Scenergy, they said that in
Venlo, they had a fun time hanging out with the commodores.

Russian invasion

All this was a long time ago and is not true. With rare parties & meetings,
poor development of network communications and the press, this is not at all
amazing. And the Russians saved the whole thing - or rather ex-USSR with everyone
its old and new republics. This is explained by the fact that in
The USSR loved to steal bourgeois technology. After
their own wonderful developments were abandoned (for example
BKOO10, the stage on which exists to this day), Russians
copied the Spectrum circuit and redid it, even more

territories. The first owners of computers were radio amateurs
(radiofreaks), which is normal for those times when ordinary people
the computer was of no use (except for gamers, and even then, they appeared
later). The radio amateurs did a great job - everything came up quickly,
what the clones lacked, new standards appeared, such as AY,
128K, Betadisk & TR-DOS. These innovations inherent in Spectrum +2,
were copied by radio amateurs and included in industrial or
homemade spectra. The industry has adopted these standards -
somewhere in the early 90s. And then, when activity in the West began
fade, the Russians attacked.

Life after death

It took several years to form the scene, at first

Spectrum is quite high, although few can support
it, which is partly due to the arrival and departure of people from

 To the origins

Initially, the Spectrum scene was born under the influence
Commodore scene, although the second generation said nothing about it
knew and developed on the basisold Spectrum scene, PC and
Amiga. With the holding of the first demo-party "Demobit'95" in Slovakia,
both the old and new scenes have united and today we have
active correspondence, a lot of demo parties, new Varez, a bunch of groups and
massive activity on the Internet. Speaking of the Spectrum scene,
let me mention her problems: a lot of Russian language
in software, non-standard TR-DOS, a huge number of lamers
(there are also a lot of sceners), weak connections with other underground
scenes. Although there is still room for fun here, the scene is still
young and her story still in development.

 And it is also eight-bit!

Looking at the calm process of firstreleasing on C64, I would
I would like to say that the Spectrum scene is open to you.
New games appear there quite often, not all of them
are being released, but there is some kind of competition here and this
cool. The industry is alive, you can even make money on Spectrum
money, and some games are truly protected. Crackers can
show your abilities, since there were games that couldn't
break in a few months, and many games are good, often even
better than the old ones. I'm not saying this now to lure you in.
