KSA-7G

When calling my relatives after the trip, I used a digital PBX,
tone dialing and payment card "CENTERTELEKOM". And got interested
IP telephony. The total set (number of clicks), of course,
bulky, but not bloated - everything is quite logical. Quick number
access (077) to commercial communications, and then listen to what they say,
and press: card code, communication method (regular or IP) and full
subscriber number, the "#" button is used as a strobe.
Once you get the hang of it, you can type instantly. Listen to hints
systems are optional. The regular method is much cheaper than the cellular method
(Ryazan-Nalchik - 5 rubles/minute), and IP is even cheaper, times
one and a half But the quality of the latter disappointed me a little.
It is clear that since there is Internet, the data flow is unstable, but I
hoped for the best. A connection that was sometimes quite normal
(digital distortion is sometimes small and almost imperceptible), sometimes
was interrupted, and then I didn’t hear, then they didn’t hear me.

Cell phones, as you know, have the ability to exchange
messages. Their cost does not depend on the distance of communication
(forrare exception), and is almost the same among operators -
about 1.5 rubles per one. Convenient feature. Communication may be
lousy and unstable, but in the end, due to
buffered/stored at the forwarding center, the message is always
it will come. True, not all Sotiki are Russified, including not
It’s always normal, and not everyone succumbs to this, but gradually
only the best will remain. I've met the following models:

- not seeing Russian letters at all (like mine, which is with MegaFon,
stored, but not visible, moved to another - read);

- seeing, but not writing (can be received, read, sent;
you can take a ready-made template and, changing it, erase the excess, then
insert the Latin alphabet anywhere, but you cannot enter the Cyrillic alphabet);

- those who write only in large Russians (does not switch to small ones,
although the Latin alphabet has everything);

- not creating a Russian file (you write normally, but sending or
saving erases the Cyrillic alphabet, leaving the Latin alphabet; fortunately
you can take ready-made - accepted - Russian, and whatever you want with it
creating will remain Russian).

 T9

Once, when I went to the Loginovs, I noticed how Vasya
suspiciousquickly texting her pussy. So much
quickly that I asked what method he uses? It turned out -
T9.

This surprised me a little. The point is that I once tried
this intelligent input, but I misunderstood it. I thought that
it is more complicated, in the sense that it requires a good memory of combinations and
available only for the most general words. In short, I’m asking Vasya.
Like, does he have enough words to communicate, and how does he manage
remember all the variants of their spelling, and what words can’t be typed?
And having received some answers, I am even more loaded, and in no way
I'll understand where I went wrong. Or is it simpler than I thought?

Vasya tells me a few words and, immediately typing them,
shows me the result. I'm amazed at the typing speed, no
understanding how he does this with so many different words that
Definitely doesn't use it all the time. In the end we stop at
example of the words "dragon" and "dragon". The first thing in the phone is that
I was surprised - who, one might ask, needs it? And there is no second one,
and this is logical - you cannot predict all turns of speech.

I started trying to type words in my grandfather's NOKIA 8310 (temporarily
carried it). At the same time, I made the same mistake as before -
looked at the screen. And I thought to myself: it can’t be that I don’t
guessed how it isdone in so few clicks. I
I tried typing the word "dragon". Watching the screen give me
all sorts of letter nonsense. I figured that after pressing the next
the next letter is on a different key and depends on
pronunciation variant (a specific letter is not tied to
specific key, and the most common combinations are scattered across
all numbers, plus some pressing options allow them
go through - look for something rare, but necessary). I couldn't figure out how
you can remember all the necessary options for distributing letters by numbers
for various words. Then somehow, purely intuitively, I typed
"dragon". And then I repeated this a couple of times - trying to find at least
some kind of quote, and then it dawned on me...

The thing is, staring at the screen while typing a word and seeing what
it shows incoherent nonsense, I was looking for the desired pressing option,
erasing the next letter and trying to type it on another button. I
assumed that the word being typed should appear on the screen as
always - by letter - and could not find the right combination
clicks for this.

How did I get so screwed up? The first time I came across T9 was on Sony
Ericsson T230 and, being interested, read a little
instructions... By the way, instructions for cell phones are different and not
always correctpainted. In my case it was good, but
I hurried, quickly skimmed through the text and began
practice, believing that I will master everything on my own.

I figured out how this method could be implemented and decided that
it would be more efficient to distribute all popular
variants/combinations of letters by numbers, thereby determining a huge
number of possible combinations/branches when moving from one
combinations of letters to another. But behind their large number,
remembering the type of this or that word would not be easy, and I
I thought that the options would be scattered by numbers, alphabetically
or according to another usual pattern, and the words will
type/appear on screen as usual.

How surprised I was when, instead of appearing normally on the screen,
the words being typed began to jump incomprehensible and often unreadable
combinations! I thought, “What nonsense?” but I kept trying. When
In this case, I missed the phrase “ignoring
words appearing" - in fact, without turning to her
due attention. Although I still remember that I read it then.
And tried to follow another - the following - phrase: "Type the word
completely", but tried to do it wrong! And therefore not
I could totally dial it in!

Further in the instructionssuggested to start editing
spell the resulting word. Now imagine what thoughts,
After all the attempts, could I have any problems? Not only that
typing a word while trying to find options to press is too difficult
and for a long time, so on the screen all sorts of nonsense with which
then also spell it out! Having weighed this method, I decided against it
refused and decided that the regular set, although longer, was much more
more natural.

 Explanation

So, on the phone keyboard, on numbers 2 to 9,
Russian letters. There are several of them on each number, and this is the location
does not change in different input modes. It may differ from
model to phone model, and then - just a little. In normal
mode, each letter typed corresponds to from one to
several presses of each specific digit (in some models
you can type individual letters in a certain combination,
using additional buttons). If you are used to writing
messages in a simple way and you do this often, then the layout
letters are more than familiar to you, you don’t poke at random, but for sure
you know which button to press for which letter. Agree
- so it is. Now imaginethat you don't have to poke into
buttons repeatedly to get the desired letter. That is almost everything
the same way, but each letter is typed with one click - by pressing that
the same number on which, among other letters, the one you need is located.

Example: the number has 2 letters ABC; on number 3 - DEYZHZ; on the number 5 -
MNOP; on number 6 - PCTY. If in normal mode we type the letter
A, then press key 2 once, for the letter B - twice, for C
- three. And in T9 mode, for A, B, and C, press the number 2
only once. The same goes for other letters/numbers. Now
example of typing the word "AGREEMENT". In simple mode, press the buttons:
3,5,5,5,2,2,2,2,5,5,5,2,2,2,5,5,5,6 - 18 clicks. And this is for
words of only seven letters! And now we dial it in T9:
3,5,2,5,2,5,6. As you can see - not a single extra click! Clear
It’s clear that the extra twos and fives have disappeared, but do you need them?

All our actions were logical and familiar - we pressed buttons,
corresponding to the required letter, and nothing more! On the screen when
all sorts of nonsense was happening. For example, on a Sony phone
Ericsson T290i had the following options: “F”, “DO”, “BOTTOM”,
"DOGM", "DOGMA", "AGREEMENT", and finally "AGREEMENT". Looking at
such a change in words during typing is really possible
get confused. But you don't need to look at the screen! You need to look at
keys while you are typing, and after the lastlook at the letters
screen. There will probably be the word you wanted to type.
It is not difficult to deceive a dictionary, but in practice this rarely happens - and
usually in short words. The phone has no idea what the word is
we have planned/want to recruit. And at the first clicks this is impossible
determine, but the further you go, the more logical the options. After all
the editor filters out unreadable combinations, leaving the most
common, and even if instead of the desired word appeared
completely different, then you can, by pressing special buttons, search
other options, probably the right word is there, and usually
among the first. If you need to type a clearly unknown word, then
there is a combination that allows you to dial as usual
(many clicks). You can correct an already typed word, and
also add the necessary word to the phone dictionary.

Word selection or editing is rarely required. For example, if we
we want to type the word “HEAT” and press 3,2,6, then “GIFT” appears,
which is logical, because this word is typed with the same numbers. But
the next word from the options is "HEAT", and we will spend only one
an extra click to dial/select it. Near the end of the set
words have different variants - as well as different endings, but their
It's not difficult to sort through. As for the above example -
“dragon” - then it’s not difficult to get it by spendingjust one extra
pressing: first we type “draco”, then we fix the word (usually
To do this, just move the cursor to the right, this is one thing
extra press) and finally type “sha”.

So far I rarely use T9, and there is a sad reason for this. I
I type Russian words in Latin letters, and the Russian dictionary does not work,
although the developers could have foreseen this. Trick
rip-offs, or information pattern, but Latin
SMS can contain 160 characters, but Russian only 70!

Ed.: The most important trick of this rip-off is what's in the phones
do not provide an option to transliterate the message after typing.
If a person uses the fast method for the Russian language - T9,
- then the message will be in Cyrillic, and you will have to fork out money.

True, I can write in English using T9, but not all
will understand English. I only use short English words in
Russian messages, and in these short words there are many options,
requiring selection. Use in Russian communication of individual
English words are the best way to convey more information in
one SMS. How to distinguish Russian words from similar spellings
English? Just an English word should be written
in large letters. Progress

When I wrote this article and took it to AlCo, I already
assumed that he would want to correct something (remembering
the recruitment method he described earlier). As a result, a discussion began with
his home on my cell phone, which went through 20 - 40 rubles per day, and
I regretted the inability to communicate with him via SMS. Later
I tried to use email, but didn’t know
additional data for the account - servers, etc.

Since I offhand indicated the winnings are 2 - 3 times compared to
using the usual set, AlCo suggested “grounding” these values,
using a specific example, since, according to his calculation,
T9's gain should have been much smaller. As examples
took the anthem of the USSR and Pushkin's poem "At the Lukomorye there is an oak tree
green".

The typing took place on a Sony Ericsson T290i. At the same time, I took into account
The next feature of simple dialing is sequential pressing
the same number to set two different letters on it, going
in a row. As you know, in such cases you need to wait after
next letter so that it registers, and only then type
next one. But you don’t have to wait, but click onsome key
for fixation, usually “to the right” or “down” - in this case
movement, as a rule, does not occur, but is first fixed
letter. One way or another, an extra action is required (pause or
pressing), and I count it. For example, in the word "auto" you need
press: 2, pause, 2, 2, 2, 6, 6, 6, 5, 5, 5 - i.e. 10 clicks, but taking into account
I consider the required pause to be 11.

On some sotik there is no letter e. May also vary
a set of signs of acceptance, somewhere it gives a bigger win, and
somewhere smaller. For example, on this cell phone in T9 mode, one
pressing a point puts a point (i.e. no losses at all), and two pressings -
comma, in simple mode they require 5 and 4 clicks
accordingly! Also, different sotik have different methods
selecting words and switching lowercase/uppercase. The method also influences
changing modes (T9/normal) when you need to dial
an original word that clearly does not exist. And, of course, the opportunity
adding new words to the dictionary for later
usage, and, by the way, the memory reserve for this. All these
features create a considerable variation in the number of clicks when
typing the same text on different phones. In addition,
for an unaccustomed user, the winnings may be much less,
than for an experienced one. "Unbreakable Union":

Compared to a computer keyboard, the T9 required
1.08 (64 characters), 1.06 (100 characters), 1.07 (135 characters)
more clicks.

 "At the Lukomorye":

Yes, this text turned out to be not easy for T9 - the gain is less than
doubled. In practice, time savings are approximately 1.5 times,
since it takes time to analyze what is typed and correct it.

Now let's see where T9 lost. I must say that it is noticeable
loss on the letter "e" and some turns - "Lukomorya", although
I entered the latter into the dictionary, but decided to type it as if it
it wasn't there.

So, 495 bytes of text required 550 clicks. Agree -
not bad for a 17-key (not counting arrows) keyboard
phone. Just 55 extra clicks. One extra of them is gone
for commas, a total of 7 extra. Two extra per dash - 6 in total
extra. And as many as 6 extra per colon. So the signsdevoured
19 extra clicks out of all. Significant, isn't it? There is a reason
think about simplifying their input. For example, I would prefer
use the second press to specify the number of the desired character.

As a result, the loss in words amounted to 36 clicks. First about
trifle. One extra for "y", one for "without", two extra for
"by". These losses can be explained by the many branches for short
words There are 31 extra clicks left for “serious”. Actually, according to
the same reason (brevity) is lost one at a time: “oak”, “oak”,
"forest", "waves", "shore"; two for “windows”, “waves”; three for "dol" -
only 12 clicks, 19 left. For selection of endings: one per
“golden”, two for “song”, 16 left. Press options gobbled up
one for "beasts" and two for "wanders". From the last 13 "ё"
devoured one for “green”, “scientist”, “everything”, and as many as 4 for
“goes”, and the last 6 presses are for “lukomorya” and “nriplynut”.
But I wasn’t safe in the last one, I don’t remember if it was in
dictionary or not, and one extra click was spent on fixing
preposition "at". In general, it is probably there, considering that
there is both “mermaid” and “goblin”. I typed the word "Lukomorya" from two
words: I found the “onion” option on the fourth press, recorded it
it with one click, and dialed more “sea” without any problems.

 Possible problems andfeatures of Sotik

In addition, I would like to note that long messages,
which are automatically screened from individual ones, give a loss.
In Cyrillic, the first is 70 characters long, and the subsequent ones (on
long texts), it seems, 66 each, but in Latin the first is 160, the second
146, and from the third to 153 characters (I don’t understand exactly, this
The dependence seems to be not strict, and I could be wrong). I mean
splitting a single long text into separate SMS, which does not
you can always check (not on all phones this
obviously). So it’s more profitable to write separately, or combine
text, if possible, containing it in two or three messages at a time, and
then continue in a new one. But, by the way, is it so often
required...

It remains to add that software glitches in phones (not even smartphones)
can manifest themselves at the most unexpected moments, although
are extremely rare. And you shouldn’t immediately rely on
any actions in Sotika, if you have not mastered them beforehand,
You should try it in advance so you don’t screw it up later.

So, about the Sony Ericsson T230, T290, etc. phones. Among them
disadvantages, unlike simple Sotik (B/W), there are also
that the message cannot be multiplied at will. In simple phones,
when you writeor you correct the message, it is saved as
new, but the original remains. So never by chance
You cannot delete the original text by editing. Of course not always
convenient to delete copies of previous versions after several revisions
messages, but it’s not difficult. On the above Sony delete
is not necessary, since you are directly correcting the source text,
which is rewritten into memory without leaving the original
option. And if you accidentally erase something while editing, then
There will be nowhere to return it - there is no copy. And most importantly, you can’t make a copy
- well, there is no such option on the phone!

But there are ready-made message templates that you can add
your own, and there is already the possibility of copying - by creating from
template of the message itself. So the pattern is like
the desired text can be reproduced.

In short, I typed this verse, went out of the templates, and then decided
add - add to the template. Selected the "change" item - and
An hourglass appeared on the screen. But no matter how much I waited for the preparation
editor, nothing has changed - the phone froze and only beeped
buttons, obviously, on interruptions. Switching off with the "No" button does not
worked because it was not in its original state, and I had to
nepebctabutb battery.

Apparently, while workingwith templates is highlighted incorrectly or
memory space is monitored and memory overflow occurs
in a given area. Of course, no one expected a long
the text in the template is not an archive, but there is an obvious error in the software -
there shouldn't be any glitches! If the template is too large, the system
hangs when you try to use it, and you can’t change anything
it, nor turn it into SMS. Imagine a bummer situation:
typed some text “a la report about something”, successfully who needs it
they kicked it off, and then decided to add more to it and send it away
entirely (and why not?), and then the system hangs. And in
in the future, everything that has been typed can neither be corrected nor
use - the text is lost! He is there, but there is nothing with him
you will do it!

The system behaves differently. Either it just hangs, or it goes through
time is not restarted/registered on the network, and it is still unknown -
what can the nohatboputb processor do in the settings, although I have nothing
didn't notice. When I tried to type text in order to be more precise
determine the length of the beginning of glitching, then there was a moment when
the next additionally typed template text was successfully saved, but in
next time, after trying to change it, in the editor corner
the number -1 appears (the remaining number of characters in the next
message from several -which the text consists of). And the template is not
wanted to be preserved. Even when I erased the text, the number did not change.
All that was left was to erase everything and exit the editor. If
try to create an SMS from such a “glitchy” text, then
you find yourself in the editor with the text “unknown object accepted”
instead of the template text, and again all that remains is to erase it
and go out.

Fortunately, in the latter cases the phone does not freeze and is glitchy
The template can be deleted without any problems. Text up to six SMS in length
template is processed normally (at least if
Russian). But what is the guarantee? Maybe it all depends on how busy you are
memory and other parameters, so be careful! Having tried
type all sorts of nonsense on the T230, I didn’t put it in text size
almost 9 SMS, but received the “slightly glitchy” option described above,
which does not exclude it depending on any specific volume of text.

And one day the T290 hung in the presence of AlCo. I wanted to see
how long can text fit into an email editor?
(by the way, who can tell me how to connect it, infection, like everyone else
make the necessary settings, there are so many of them...). Well,
in short, I went into the editor and began to press all over the keyboard of the phone
(all clicks are buffered - a huge reserve in number), and he
slowly filled the screenspontaneous text... I several times
I paused, waited for him to catch up with me,

Ed.: I wonder what is slowing down there?

and then I tried my best with the clicks... As a result, filling out
the allotted volume, the cursor rested on the edge of the screen, continuing
nonuckubatb from recorded clicks, but no matter how much I waited, they didn’t
stopped. In practice, this, of course, will not happen, it is unlikely
they will type like this, the buffer will be filled with ten presses -
twenty (try to score it so wisely...), but nothing
excluded. I also tried filling out the email editor. mail, but not
It worked - I think I didn’t try hard...

And lastly (there are probably plenty of incorrect things everywhere, and not
I can track down and describe everything - I just don’t have time, I’m writing if I do it myself
I came across it by accident). The T230/290 and others have a synthesizer to
write music. But the volume controls do not work and
backlight control, although everything is selectable. Perhaps this
designed for more sophisticated models, where italics (in SMS)
normally supported. Apparently, the phone software is being combined, especially
without thinking about its filling.

Judging by the analysis carried out by AlCo, with specialletter layout
on the keys, according to the principle of the most frequently used, simple
the set would lose T9 much less than with alphabetical
layout currently used.

This is easy to explain. After all, in distant times no one
I assumed that at some point I would need to type a lot on my phone
text. In the first telephones, letters were needed only for writing
names in the phone book. Phone manufacturers are simply
placed the letters in the most familiar way - in order, as they are
Everyone remembers it from school. With the rapid development of Sotik, this method is already
familiar, all that remained was to support, and T9 appeared, in fact,
the only leap in this direction, allowing instantly
master yourself while maintaining compatibility with the previous method.
(Actually, it seems to me that I have come across some other method in
some older models, but I could be wrong.)

With the development of smartphones, with a full keyboard and touch
display, old methods lose their relevance, but it is impossible
exclude their use in compact models limited
keys and screen area. If they have the opportunity
redefinition, which, of course, is hard to believe, then
efficiency will increase even more. It can be assumed that such
the feature will be available via Java. Of course, inideally
the keys should become LCD,

Ed.: And partially non-overlapping, so that in the same space
more keys fit.

but I feel that this is already drawing on fantasy, although everything
perhaps.

This whole mess can be easily fixed by flashing the phone,
but who will do this? Special letter layout, multiplied by T9 -
this is the maximum efficiency of the keyboard and it can
used in many small devices where it is required
entering text - the same transmitting pagers - and therefore,
the examples below remain valid.

Ed.:
I provide options for Cyrillic and Latin layouts (calculated for
English) on eight and ten keys. Let me remind you that in
There are no fewer than 17 buttons on a phone, even not counting cursor buttons;
When typing SMS, the top three buttons are usually not used, but
special functions are distributed among the remaining buttons
ineffective. That is, ten buttons for letters is quite
really. Maybe even twelveif you fantasize.

For each layout I indicate the average number of clicks for
typing one character. For comparison, standard Russian
the layout requires an average of 2.25 clicks per character, and
standard English - 1.88.

 CYRILLIC LATIN
 1.6 clicks 1.4 clicks 1.36 clicks 1.22 clicks

 2 3 1 2 3 2 3 1 2 3
ouyu ekge ouyu eyoe ayah elc tdf ewx tf ouv
 4 5 6 4 5 6 4 5 6 4 5 6
avyaf iyyo tdbh iyy tdc nmch ouv arx iyj ab iyj hgk
 7 8 9 7 8 9 7 8 9 7 8 9
Nmchts snzsh rljsch szzh rkg lnsh hgkq nwm spbz nm spz dcq
                         0 0
                        vbshchf rl

At the same time, you can also try to rearrange the second ones (you can also
third and even fourth) letters on the buttons, so that with T9
short words were typed unambiguously more often! But for thisneed
write a program and experiment with large arrays
typical messages.

 Conclusion

I can't predict whether I'll still have a second cell phone
the moment of release of this issue, but the probability is high. it will contain
my card, with the number 8 (960) 5779338, and everyone can
call or write, both Russian and Latin. But I will answer
probably in Latin and possibly from the number 8(920)6348577, which
always available (but not for conversation - glitches/cuts off), and
Only Latin SMS are visible on it. The best way is if
someone wants to contact me - call the first number.
It is unlikely that I will be able to answer immediately. Even if the phone
will be in my hands, first I’ll wait two seconds. If the call goes through -
you can disconnect (they won’t withdraw money) and write an SMS, and if
They said “disabled” - then write to the second number. If necessary
talk longer, let’s talk first, agree on when, and
Then I’ll visit my family and send them their home number. At the same time, maybe
be, and IP connection notectum...

Yes, one more thing. If you wrote an SMS in Latin, then it’s not a fact
that it is in Latin encoding! In Russianmessage you can
use any characters, including Latin. On modern
Sotics usually don't have any problems. They switch automatically
encoding if at least one Russian letter appears in the text, and
also switch back if all Russians are removed (possibly
not all Sotics are so intelligent). But the old ones - for example, some
NOKIA (generally excellent devices) - truly switching to
Latin after selecting the ENGLISH dictionary or input method -
separately in the menu - and when simply switching to abc they remain in
Russian encoding. If the machine specifies the number of characters
under the message - it’s easy to determine the encoding: hit
editor with the number 70 - Russian SMS, and if the number is 160 -
Latin.
