            FIASCO

(As Intro)


  ... Sunday morning, Aug. 24, at the beginning of the second 
day of the Festival, at the corner of 1 st Chervonoarmiiska and 
Moscow prospect has gathered several hundred people. Singly and 
in groups, silently or Conversely, excitedly shouting, people 
nervously shuffled their feet leg, but anywhere from this place 
did not leave. "You are what strike? Rally?" - Sometimes 
interested passers-by. But it was not no strike, no rally. It 
was ENLIGHT. More precisely, and it has already was not ... Was

Festival of Computer Art: "Festival ENLIGHT'97 closed for 
technical reasons" ... 

  Here, in ENLIGHT, came from all over the country, from near 
and far abroad, the Festival were prepared for months, 
suffering in the throes of creation literally, donating time, 
rest, and breakfast and dinner - are countless ... Here was 
carried all best that can be created by man in the virtual

world on the rise of love and passion in his heart and deep 
knowledge, experience and common sense in your head. Packaged 
in identical boxes diskettes, the fruits of creativity shining 
bright personality and like yourself waiting for that moment 
when they see it. Something It was shown on the first day of 
the Festival. This work was lucky - they managed to see and 
check out. Is this even be in vain? 

  On the eve of everyone attending the festival were given 
questionnaires to vote. Works shown on the first day, probably 
received by the audience. What prevents us from ourselves to 
take stock of the Festival, though not all that planned, but 
even that took place? And the cry sooner or later echoed over a 
noisy street. A short guy in a bright red shirt and a lush mop 
of thick black hair on his head jumped on the parapet at the 
edge of the sidewalk. "Hand over form here !!!"... Plus a 
couple of strong words directed with all my heart ...


  Raced at the sea of, tiny white sails flew up above the waves 
of his paper sheets. Ten, twenty ... One hundred and fifty! 
This is the real statistics, it seriously. And three - for 
three, not one! - Head bent over a pile of colorful ... 

   At this point, perhaps, is to interrupt prolonged "intro".
The results, albeit informal, there is. You've probably already 
guessed who was the guy in the red shirt ... But to me, as I

  From the capital of the "real" in the capital of the northern

PROGRESS, MEGADATE, DIAMOND, ANTARES; went to the festival 
participants giant Education EXTREME - MAGIC SOFT; unexpectedly

heat did not burn, and pleasantly caressed orange sunset rays 
of us standing on the platform of the Leningrad station is not 
too large bags and backpacks, which were most needed in the 
journey thing: plastic glasses, bottle openers for beer 
bottles, packets of snack ... Somewhere in this wealth 
peacefully lay boxes of floppy disks, cameras, rags and stuff.

  Clocks will inexorably approaching 20:35, time of departure

car. The train started. And then there were still our friends!

We together, we went on ENLIGHT, we were full of inspiration and

  ... "Shadovskaya" (ZX-SHADOW-Skye) vodka is the end of two

after the first day of the festival, when we walked on the

  It is this, verbatim, the words northern capital met us, had 
only to step into the city on the threshold of the Moscow 
Railway Station. Huge letters on the roof of the building 
opposite the station will certainly catch the eye. And it was 
wonderful! 

  Alex and Mary appeared in exactly the same in the schedule 
time of arrival of the trains. At this tense highway trains run

  I drove more than ENLIGHT, I went to my friends to leave

            VOENMEKH


  Voenmech building on the 1 st Chervonoarmiiska - an ancient 
and beautiful. Unfortunately, I'm not special in the 
architecture and do not know the name style, which built the 
building. It is very similar in architecture to the building of 
Moscow State Pedagogical Institute. Lenin's Little Pirogov in 
Moscow, where I studied in the early 80's. True, Pedagogical in 
Moscow no longer Moscow State Pedagogical Institute, and Moscow 
State Pedagogical University, and has now become Voenmech BSTU, 
but remained of the building, there were people and history.


  Going under the arches decorated with stucco corridors and

  From 10 am Aug. 23 on the street in front of the building 
work was in full swing. Registered participants and guests of 
the festival, wrote out passes for entry forms and were given 
questionnaires to vote for a particular contest work.


  Huge, almost the entire length of the building, an assembly 
hall on the fourth floor is not without tension contained all

expressive, sometimes very comical, "Grimaces" ARTY of "Digital 
Reality", invariably cheerful view Vyacheslav Mednonogova and 
many, many others are familiar and not, you'll see in the 
newspaper! And, incidentally, probably hard to tell where more 
can be anything it is in a and d e r b - venerable magazines 
for some reason not honored by the attention Festival 1997

  Important thing that struck this competition - the number of 
submitted works. I can absolutely say for sure that the 
interviewer did not name any specific figures. But when they 
showed the 82-th job, sounded: "What happy?" It's only half! ". 
Leaves, 164 works were put in all the time standing in that 
terrible endless queue, which certainly remember for a 
lifetime, all participants and spectators. But the torment of 
the cost, have been shown all or almost all the work, because 
in the end lead already strayed from the account, exhibited

the file ... But the images were still shown, they saw 
audience, they put up assessment. Each figure was shown

Not all known titles or authors; know when all this

  Work groups "Digital Reality" and "Progress" - true 
masterpieces of Virtual Art. They were a superb addition 
Festival gave the audience a vivid and unforgettable holiday. 
Retell stories and scripts "BINARY LOVE" and "SHIT 4 BRAINS" I 
I will not, because still you, dear readers, will soon see 
these works, if not already seen. Harmonious and very 
successful combination of video and music, original and often 
unexpected humor, when the audience for a moment "succeeded 
temper justice with mercy", presenting the creators of these 
works a round of applause, finally, even though both demos were 
searched to the end "in one breath," suggest that

border effects. On the contrary, the last competition even

  Music contest has begun in an atmosphere which is called 
"dead." Tired of spectators reached the point of which begins,

unable to arouse the attention of ...

during which the loudspeakers raced something unimaginable,

We can only humanly feel sorry for the authors whose work

  At eleven o'clock that evening we got out of the room into 
the fresh air, not doubting that for a second day with a 
morning song contest continues ...

  "Amizhnikov" compared with spektrumistami was negligible,
