SB on SPECCY!

ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»

From Tyukaev Eugene Vladimirovich To All 21 October 1997

Heya All!

has anyone tried connecting SB to the Spectrum???
if so, which one and how?
and what exactly should you do if it’s PnP?
especially since HAYES can be cut, then why not try SB?

otherwise I’m really excited to hear what comes out of it :)

What’s better? You could at least justify something, I really haven’t heard of GS
but I feel that for a self-propelled gun it’s normal, but 99% won’t reach the crapest Chinese
ESS1688-ESS1868.
And how much does GS cost? Because e-es-es is about 100 rubles. in Mitino.

PF> bye, with all your best wishes, Pavel Fedin.

Sincerely, Pavel.

Hi, Pavel!

PM> What’s better? You could at least justify something, I really haven’t heard GS,

You correctly understood that it’s simpler, and this is already enough to forget about SB.

PM> but I feel that for a self-propelled gun it’s normal, but it won’t reach the crapest Chinese
PM> ESS1688-ESS1868 99% will not reach.

1. there is such a word - quality (GS will make ESS at 99%)
2. if you are so smart, then connect this ESS, write a player
MODs for it and report on the maximum sampling frequency (for some reason
I am tormented by vague doubts that 16 bit, 44 kHz will not work).
3. if you succeed in all this, then what else can the Spectrum do during
sound playback?
4. GS has it has its own memory, but what about SB?
5. RTFM

PM> And how much does GS cost? Because e-es-es is about 100 rubles. in Mitino.

And how much do you think it might cost to connect ESS to spec? Another 100?

Nicolaus.

From Roman Alexandrov To All 28 October 1997

GS is twice as expensive, but I haven’t seen ESS-ok for 100 thousand.

Nice connections.

From Tyukaev Eugene Vladimirovich To All 29 October 1997

so how much does it cost?
there is a specific question, there is no specific answer, it turns out (as I understand it)
that GS costs 200 rubles?!

You install a wave table for another 100 rubles and all the processor will have to do is push the data into
it.

I heard and saw. Here are my conclusions:

Pros:

1) Occupies 0 CPU cycles.
2) Music takes up 0 bytes in the computer's RAM.
3) Can be used as a coprocessor.

Cons:

1) Doesn't bother you.

From Pavel Fedin To All 31 October 1997

TEV> may be simpler, maybe better, but I have a
TEV> blaster sitting idle at home! and how can I get a GS?

Well, sell it! And IMHO GS can be obtained by mail.

Yeah, does he even know when he needs to squeak? :)

PF> 2) Music takes up 0 bytes in the computer's RAM.

In fact, it also produces music for the computer :)))

PF> 3) Can be used as a coprocessor.

But this is really valuable, if it's true

PF> Cons:
PF> 1) Doesn't stick in your mind.

Yes, yes, yes, but it pokes into Zorra 2 or 3, which causes Amy to start dragging

That’s not the point. It’s just that this kind of psychology infuriates me - the device must
be created for the PC, the programs must be the same as
on the PC... Where is your OWN head, and not Microsoft’s?

PM> St. Petersburg people say 240

But your own and with support. Plus features that your glitchy ESS will never provide!

From Taras Shabliy To All 3 November 1997

PM> St. Petersburg residents say 240
Yeah, that’s right.

Hello, Evgeny Milun! I remember that on 05 Nov 97 you just threw this at me:

EM> IMHO, you're exaggerating a little. It’s just that for the PC, the periphery has long been standardized and serial. In my opinion, this is one of the reasons - just
EM> go
EM> to any PC store and buy.

What does “standardized” mean? And as for serial - so make GS serial!
And besides, no ESS has its own memory and eats up processor time. And we have oh, how little of it...

EM> But about programs, you are almost right... Although... There is a standard
EM> for software products.

Yes? And where is it written? Where does it say that you should only use
Windows'95 GOST-such and such? :-)))
