New graphic editor (S.Novikov-2)

ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»

From Andrew Savichev To All 11 January 1998

Hi, All!
Hi, Sergey!

> SN>> What _managed_ to come up with, and not what _is possible_ to come up with ;)
> AS> ^^^^^^^^^
> AS> Do you want to say what you managed to implement from what you came up with? ;) at this
> AS> moment, with existing capabilities. People's capabilities are always greatly
> AS> limited by their money (free time, abilities) :)
>
>No one even discussed what was impossible to realize. :)
It is very difficult to speculatively predict “what is impossible on the Spectrum.”
And then, what configuration to take if a regular pent-128 with one flop is
one thing, if not... and I suspect that’s what we’re talking about ;)

>I said that if you start making an editor now, you’ll finish making it
>when there will be tons of them. All sedators currently being prepared are already being made for a very
and very long time.
That’s why we need more information about:
1) who is doing it;
2) under what computer;
3) a brief description;
4) degree of readiness;
5) modernization plans.
This is a minimum, a minimum, but it would be better if the authors were more open to
collaboration.
And I write everything because I myself suffer from the lack of tools, including the count. editor and animator, Vladimir is in the know ;)
What do you order "Special Function" to do?

> SN>> Implementation levels will bedifferent, but competition from the user's point of view -
> SN>> is a good thing.
> AS> Yeah...convince me of the advantages of the “Russian premature market” :)
> AS> And who to compete for? For 1.5-2.5 thousand spektrumists?
>
>So these 2 thousand users (although there will be more of them) need a good
editor, and not what some are doing now. First of all, you need ease of use, which I haven’t noticed yet (except for AW)...
I’m not belittling the merits of AW, although I know about it firsthand. As for the number of “living”
especially “civilized” (buying something, writing somewhere or communicating with someone) Spectrum users, neither I nor, IMHO, you know for sure,
my numbers are nothing more than a rough proportional estimate:
the number of networkers (100 Spbzxnet+200Mskzxnet+200FIDO+ 200regionszxnet ) x K
Someone is on several networks at the same time.
Because. Moscow is the champion in the number of modems per capita, and according to you, in Moscow there are about 500 living Spectrumists, then I took this K to be a little
more than 2.5. Let traders or authors refute me if any
of them managed to sell more than 2.5 thousand copies of their programs ;)
In general, if all traders responded and reported approximately the sales volumes of the most popular software (order), then it would be possible to count
andmore precisely.
>
> AS> Yes, by and large, users don’t need it, only
> AS> software/demo/intro/remakers,
>
>That’s the majority. There are only a few gamers left.
Well... yeah? :) Where then are the hundreds of units of software products every year? Where are
dozens of magazines and newspapers, where is the sea of system software and precious
placers of amazing games?
>
> AS> and “not underground”, like CGS ;).
>
>CGS? I don’t remember something like that 8|
I appreciate your humor. God willing, you will see ;)
>
>So everything else, except for graphic editors, is already in abundance. And Art
>Studio, as you know, will be 13 years old this year.
See above... about my torment without an editor.

> AS> Most, in fact, “write to the table”...
>
>That’s why I don’t understand why Brain Wave should write its own editor without looking at
>others.
And I’m just for it! and not only so that they look... but also so that they “harness into the common wagon.”
Maybe Brain Wave has come up with something that others have never dreamed of.
>
>Don’t forget - almost all programs come out in multiple versions. Just remember
>STS... At first, these possibilities will be enough. And then you can upgrade.
Well, I didn’t use AW, oh my God... what makes you think that I have something against it?

>:)) Completely different things. Games are released by many groups fromdifferent cities and even
countries. And weekly. You can't keep track of everyone. The new graphic editor is an event. A notable event.
I don’t argue that they are very different, but both need to have information.
>
>And what can soft makers agree on? What options can I insert into my
editors? Who should abandon theirs, and who will continue the business? Dead issue.
Let them speak out themselves... otherwise why are we “breaking spears” for them, o’k?
>
>
> With God's blessing, Sergei Novikov AKA Spirit/STEP

With respect, Andrey S. / CGS
