New Count. editor (S. Novikov)
ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»
From Andrew Savichev → To All 10 January 1998
Hi, All!
Hi, Sergey!
>> AW has everything we could think of. So that's enough.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
AS> Don't say that... there are no limits to human needs...
^^^^^^^^^^^^
SN>What _were_ able to come up with, not what _possible_ to come up with ;)
^^^^^^^^^
Do you mean to say that you managed to implement what was invented? ;) at the moment, with existing capabilities. People’s capabilities are always severely
limited by their money (free time, abilities) :)
AS> but of course it’s not worth repeating 1:1, it’s just a shame of course that 20
AS> teams (if your forecast is correct)
SN> ;) This is true, by the way.
And I’m already inclined to take all the numbers _from you_ as _reliable data_.
AS> spend efforts on achieving approximately the same level of implementation... and
AS> so little strength, and even scattered, absurdly! :(
SN>The levels of implementation will be different, but competition from the user’s point of view is
SN>a good thing.
Yeah...convince me of the advantages of the “Russian premature market” :)
And who to compete for? For 1.5-2.5 thousand Spectrumists?
So where is the place for 20 similar graphic editors?
You give each Spectrum user their own unique graph. to the editor? :)
Yes, users don’t careBy and large, they are not needed, only software/demo/intro/remakers,
IMHO. And of those today, again IMHO, there are several dozen (operating
in full view), and “not underground”, like CGS ;). Let's add another hundred in reserve and
we'll get only about two hundred people who will draw something else today (tomorrow), I'm not saying "the day after tomorrow" ;)
We must proceed from real needs.
AS> And this situation is not only with graphic editors.
AS> At least discuss these issues in an echo to all interested parties, exchange
AS> ideas, otherwise everyone is "cooking in their own juice."
SN>Competition. What exchange of skills is there?! Everyone is trying to get there early, to hide
SN>from competitors the most original features of their editor.
About competition, see above.
Not skills, but ideas.
Most, in fact, “write on the table”... just look at what you actually
use from the software you have. Or would you like to treat them like
games...played and put aside for the collection?
Then of course yes...more good and different editors :)
Alas, but the tools should only be improved and improved...everyone
who uses them needs better ones with more capabilities, so the developers of
tools should cooperate - Spectrum will win.
AS> Probably there are no more FAQs here get by, but need to createcoordination
AS> sections in various areas of system software development and
AS> help each other - IMHO everyone will benefit!
SN> Difficult and inefficient. The authors, if they want, will agree among themselves...
They sometimes do not even assume the true state of affairs. So you periodically
ask, who released (hereinafter the list of games) in an echo, and not in soap :).
But for a software maker, especially one developing instrumental software, it is even more
difficult to navigate and it is more offensive to waste time on something that someone has already done
before him (at least because of the larger amount of work).
And in collective discussions sometimes good ones are really born ideas, otherwise why would echoes be invented? :)
