New programs for non-soviet users

ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»

From Vsevolod Potapov To All 28 October 1997

good afternoon, dear ALL.

I am addressing mainly Programmers and Organizers....

there is a real opportunity to sell your new releases abroad.
A lot of people want to purchase new games/programs for their
spectrums. Of course there are problems that I should point out.

firstly, the software must be completely Anglicized. No Russian
letters are allowed. at the same time, the translation must be of high quality.
contact knowledgeable people, hire translators, whatever, just
it is correct. (it's not that difficult). more on this a little later...

second - the versions must (!) be tape versions. It doesn’t matter how many years
you have to download these programs - it’s not your problem. if someone says that there is no protection, then: firstly, if the release is official, then fellow foreigners will have to adhere to their own laws. no
piracy. secondly, no matter what protection they put in place, they will still remove it.
verified. but again - foreigners are good people (I’m telling you this as
one of them:), and they won’t steal.

Third and last - everything should work on a NORMAL spec without any
problems such as lack of clock cycles, incomplete decryption of ports,
incorrect INT, and the like.

NB!!! It is advisable to have a 48k version. It's not that hard to do. it doesn't matter
if your program loads for 1000 years every five minutes. it doesn't matter that there is no sound on AYthere will be (they don’t have it on 48 anyway).

If you are interested, contact me by e-mail (not FIDO!) or by
echo.

Random ,

Demo HERE and at relcom.comp.speccy! All potential buyers
of it will have the opportunity to see it (in r.c.s with a higher probability, another argument
in favor of its creation :)).Then there are no differences (buyers)...an account for
money...receiving money...sending out versions with binding generators (there is a special conversation about the owners of
"rubber" Spectrums, but almost everyone has emulsions, those who don't
believe, read comp.sys.sinclair, NOT ONLY THEY DO US, BUT WE ALSO READ THEM :) )
when sending binding data to the author, in response - an INDIVIDUAL password...
and who wants to bother breaking protection for $3-5 - let them break it.
It’s the “poor Russians” (I read it today in c.s.s) whose salary is $10 per a day, and
for rich non-soviet users this is a salary for an hour, or even for half an hour.
And in half an hour it is hardly possible to break even the most “primitive” protection.
So will anyone bother? The mailing should only be done “in one gulp”.
Ie. I took off the “cabbage”, and then let the pirates get the rest. Meanwhile, you sculpted a new version :)

Getting a real tape from an image? is a trivial task IMHO :)

if you are talking about Sovkism, then NOT EVERYONE suffered from it even under the Soviets, there were such lucky ones :)... well, now... every year in Russia is a whole era, life itself
teaches people the bulldog grip that English businessmen are famous for :)

and others, each had something interesting..."a half heifer overseas, and a ruble

of transportation, and how will the English customs officers allow it to be "imported" ;-) )

I don’t know...probably some of us have “rubber” Spectrums...but
how many of them?

yes, look, we’re looking for some cool package for the speaker (after all, in the IBM PC there is a PUTUP the music sounded pretty good in the French style, but “nobody-nothing”... maybe
of course they’re “greedy”, but most likely there’s nothing :(

now listen to me carefully :) !!! What did I talk about (in the first

but here I’m just wondering, why, excuse me, do they
break it? I understand the Westerners - they get a lot of money for this, and nothing will happen to the market. but what about ours? Are they doing this for the sake of glory?
or for the sake of a great sense of pride that they are driving the Russian Speck into the grave?
They are assholes, and even if they turn me off from the echo - I’m not ashamed
to say it.

once again. I've been repeating this for the hundredth time... no one will break Spectrum releases. Don't you understand? They still have respect
for the old ones.

Yeah - the Spectrum program is 6524 kilobytes, and runs on a 48 machine. here
the buyer thinks "oh, cool, i think it's pretty cool game - check
how many levels i can load ;)". or what?

yeah - and this is before the first decryption and then? Every time you launch the program, enter a 20-character code? and after that the program erases
itself if the code is incorrect? how will she get attached to the car?

You already let me in, and I don’t even seem to be a pirate.

When I was little, but I still don’t understand :)

almost always use one (original) or an extremely limited number
of original versions. In the end they end up with me, the author. And with the help of
a simple program I determine that the original versions were stolen from Ivanov,
Sidorov, etc. Dealing with specific individuals is already much easier :)

how? "good afternoon, can I talk to mr Smith, Chris Smith. plz?",
"well, I'm Chris Smith, what do you need?", "you see your copy of the program was
broken and distributed all over !!!! Ireland.", "bl%, so what?",
"please don't do that again", "oh, sorry...... and so on.
it's all bullshit

>Isn't it?

and then true - not true:). if
a game costs 6-7 bucks, then it’s easier for them to buy this game than to go to a certain county town N to buy a “pirated” version (on a
compact of course :)

it's good that they died, anyway the hands of the man who

well, what’s wrong with this argument?

>>it wasn’t just about rubber sinter

and I didn’t talk about HERE. everything needs to be done humanly and not in
several places - then there are not enough clock cycles because the lamer drew some kind of diagram while drunk, then it is reset because the port is not fully specified
(I’m not just talking about 7FFD encodersпоймут)

Are you sure that it makes sense to get dirty? For the sake of a handful of mythical fans?
So that a pot-bellied burgher, drinking Bavarian wine and poking his fat
sausage at the monitor, would grin wryly and say: “Fantastic. Russian shayse”

Twice in October I came across an advertisement for a company selling software for the IBM PC over the network through a commercial conference (from the RELIS system), it is simply laid out there and if you download it, then the amount indicated in the price list is withdrawn from your account. I have not done this and cannot evaluate this technology in terms of
protection from further unauthorized copying...
(Individual accounts are maintained for each Relcom subscriber, who, by a special command, can request his status or receive a report on the expenditure
of money for a certain period)

> People take a long time to swing - usually within six months ~80% of potential
users purchase the product, and ~99% of the mark can be reached only in a year
>(and you want in one gulp :))
and the dynamics? IMHO 50% buy in the first two months...and they would buy in the first two
weeks if the information was not distributed “hand to hand”...on the Internet they will buy in
a week, why?
Because:
1) they saw it beforedemu;
2) they will quickly receive information about the start of sales;
3) there is no need to go to a store or market, but only need to go to the nearest
Sberbank or any other bank;
4) you can hope for support for the purchased product by the author;
5) they will understand that they have no other way to buy and the author is giving them only this
chance;
For the author, it is not so important whether he receives $500 or $400 (if we were talking about
$5000 and $4000, then yes, $1000 is still a lot of money)... it’s more important to get it
quickly and without stress. Apparently, if the author had a steady flow of $300 a
month, he could send all other matters and devote himself entirely to creativity.
3-4 products sold in a year would provide he has a very tolerable life...
Of course, if these are games of the CV level, then it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get $3000-5000 for them :),
but I’m talking about normal “mid-level” software products. With proven
technology, they can be thrown onto the market in the amount of 3-4 per year.
Ten to twenty actively working soft-making groups in Russia and the CIS then
should give about 100 prog per year. With such a flow of high-quality software, things may get better for Spectrum! I'm not saying that the number of users will increase by a large number of times, but IMHO 5000-10000 Spectrum users and 2000-4000 of them connected to networks is a stable world that is not in danger of destruction!

Another “but” - the release of new software does not mean that everyone will automatically
rush to buy it. Some people don’t need it, others should think about it, look at their neighbor, etc. After all, sometimes (and on Spec - quite often) outright rubbish comes out (and users are not fools ;)

IMHO, still like this:“Those who have access to the network, as a rule, do not need
zx-software, and those who need zx-software, as a rule, do not have access to the network”
