ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»

From Alex Mikhailov To All 12 May 1997

A big hello to you, dear Dmitry!

On a frosty day, May 07, 1997, at 22:48,
Dmitry Grigoryev wrote a letter to Alex Mikhailov:

AM>> those who want to open bbs immediately receive a
AM>> node!!! and open. why is this bad?

DG> The fact that a person, carelessly
DG> will be engaged in business that does not interest him.

yes, he has nothing to do with business. You say that
as if the 10 minutes it takes to get to the post office (and you can get it done in a minute
if you don’t take too long) are comparable
to weeding 10 hectares of potatoes. :)

DG> And three exclamation marks after
DG> the word “node” show that here it is -
DG> the goal of a sysop’s entire life ;)

they show that everything ingenious is simple. :)

AM>> and your answer is a living confirmation of this. :). What did you
DG> count on,

at least on the fact that the whole ZX-Net
wouldn’t be chasing me
shouting MUST DIE :)

DG> That we would silently pick up the snot and disband the network
DG> as the worst and useless to anyone?

I was counting on that??? nothing of the kind!!!and
didn't say anything like that. What does "worst network" mean? Now, if it
consisted of 2 bbs, then yes,
it would be possible to say so. but
the networks are almost equal both in the number of servers and in the number of points. ALMOST EQUAL,
a dozen points and two or three bbs (non-resident!) -
this is not an indicator of a drop-dead difference
in “coolness”, and certainly not an indicator
of someone’s lameness. I didn’t say
that ZX-Net is SUXX, I just cited the subject
with my comments... ;)

DG> And what do we calmly admit - yes, Moscow is no match for Peter
DG>?

And I didn’t say that. but, you must admit,
Peter is not a village either? ;) if you agree,
then let's close this dispute, and let's talk
better in more detail about your and our
organization, as well as about the unification...

AM>> it’s just that Muscovites have already gotten used to the idea that there is no better network than ZX-Net, and
AM>> ours

DG> Then you decided to convince us of this
DG>... So as not to become arrogant, Panimaeshsh...

cannot be convinced (IMHO, this is theoretically impossible.
even if only you were left in ZX-Net,
you still wouldn’t be convinced :)

AM>> we still have to be convinced that
AM>> that SpbZxNet is not a backwater either... :)))

DG> I’m sorry, but have you seen somewhere
DG> coming from some
DG> person responsible on the network statement
DG> thatis your network a backwater?

I also apologize, but this is a “figurative” phrase, and
besides with emoticons.

DG> So why did you allow yourself to make fun of ZXNet?

Sorry, what should I do? :(

DG> So we just got caught
DG>? In order to encourage
DG> its users, it was necessary
DG> to “trample” ours? :-/

and where did I trample them, pray tell? :(

AM>> these “statistics” were not at all aimed at
AM>> spitting aside Moscow, to offend someone

DG> It turned out exactly like this. Many were offended...

offended by the fact that
SpbZxNet is better than ZX-Net? For me and for
most of us it is, and it would be
strange if it were different for
you - why is it better to be offended here :(

DG> about what we missed ;) Using the
DG> telephone transformer
DG> in Moscow you won’t be able to do much work, as well as with the
DG> XTR modem. Very
DG> poor connection.

And in CDOS, isn’t the main part the telephone
transformer?

DG> And CDOS modems were developed and tested
DG> in ours conditions.

and Vicommki and XTR are in ours. So what?

AM>> let's get back to this issue somewhere at the end of October
AM>> let's go back to this issue and see, ok?

DG> Well, no!We won’t return to him
DG> anymore :-/

what haven’t you found out yet? hmm, I can throw
statistics v2.0, with corrected data.
only there is not much that needs to be corrected.
and again, if they finally send me
your normal online directory. ;)
by the way, where do I find out a list of out-of-town bbs?
as far as I understand, your addresses do not
indicate the presence or absence of bbs
in a given person.

DG> I hope that by October
DG> you will have another object for
DG> “comparisons”.

in the sense?

VM>>>> and because of the primitiveness software,

DG>>> But this is completely in vain. Praise your own, don’t scold someone else’s.

AM>> this is a wise phrase, and I didn’t want to scold anyone.

DG> Yes? :) You're lucky that
DG> the author of this software is far from our dispute ;-)
DG> (Or maybe not so far?)

thank God... :)))

Best wishes, Arno from Omega group.

From Alex Mikhailov To All 12 May 1997

AM>> I didn’t see your software, because it never reached us :(,

DG> I sent it to you back in early February. And your gate
DG>, at my request, confirmed the delivery...

hmm... there was something in the pisish archive?
only didn’t you forget, by chance, that I
only have Scorpio? :) so
there are some there were some complications, but I still didn’t see the term... :( is it hard to send again?

AM>> another thing is that it doesn’t work with CDOS,
AM>> maybe that’s why you don’t use it? :))

DG> You didn’t seem to be against remaking it :)

it seems like Alex was going to remake it... :)
I didn’t say that and didn’t promise that.

DG> another question - how would it work on our lines with such
DG> protocol...

what protocol do you have? Z-Modem? :)

DG> Do you really need us to give in to something? ;)

the main thing is that the truth wins. and friendship.
and peace came throughout the world... :)

DG> Dialing,

MMD v2.20 is almost ready. those. I
and several people already have it and
we are working with it, and the rest
are waiting for ZF#6...

for the Vicommka it is necessary to
assemble a simple circuit for picking up the handset
(this is for users, sysops have done this for themselves a long time ago
), consisting of two (one) relays.

DG> auto-dial,

of course, since there is a number dial, then it’s just a sin
not to make an automatic redial...

DG> automatic connection restoration whenbreak.

I understand from On-Line, you don’t use it...
why is this necessary? turned on the auto-dial and called
a second time. this is not a mailer :)

by the way, but perhaps someday we will have a mailer... at least we are planning an "autohub", i.e. For sysops, the process
of mail forwarding will be fully automated.

Our software is constantly being improved. and yours?

DG> An address book for 960 numbers with dialing through it.

We have, like, 10 numbers with automatic dialing through it. more, IMHO, is not necessary. 5-6 is enough for me...

by the way, I hope your notebook is saved to disk? :)

DG> Picking up the phone, including the desired call.

this goes without saying. but how would bbs work then?

DG> Dynamic adaptive speed change.

this is overkill. it is suitable for Hayes,
and even then it slows down quite a lot,
but for Spec’s modems this is not necessary.
we have three fixed speeds - 600, 1800, 2400.
more precisely, two, since users cannot work at 600.
1800 works for almost everyone, and 2400 for many.
it didn’t work 2400 - turned on 1800 and that's it.
and you don't have to wait until both modems
get drunk with each other and reduce the speed.

DG> Mode (protocol?) turbo2 (there, in my opinion, there are no
DG> start/stop bits - real cps at 2400 baud
DG> calculate it yourself) - justifies with good connections.

and we have TURBO1 mode :)two PROFI,
or, for example, ATM and PROFI, in turbo mode,
and at 2400 they race without a single repeat.
what is it like? ;)

DG> QUICK mode (off-line) - first,
DG> file names are entered to receive/transmit,
DG> then a connection occurs without reading
DG> directories, etc. procedures.

from us you downloaded the station directory, marked
GRAPH the necessary files (no need to “enter” anything),
clicked “auto-exchange” and let’s go!

DG> Logging.

this was done in the Usov terminal 5 years ago...
old, but convenient. and we have this too.
and the log, any file or picture can
be viewed directly in the terminal. All that's left is
to insert the player :)

DG> Window interface (it's convenient, you know, to download
DG> the directory, mark the files
DG> in it and merge them.

And here, excuse me, what? :) besides, we
you can also run through the menus with your mouse.

DG> Then do the same with the contents
DG> of your disk (which Not everyone does
DG>, unfortunately :)

:)

DG> Therefore, there are no macros, extend
DG> mods, etc. - everything is in the menus and everything is clear.

You don’t understand, it seems, why we need macros...
by the way, I just remembered that I forgot to send
help for the server program. Have you even launched it or tested it? we saw macros
as in Maximus, a built-in user menu,
the abilityviewing lists of files and
access levels to which they are available,
the ability to merge the list of BIBISA users (not
from disk, but from memory)?

DG> Server turn-on timer.

how is that? like a watch? in the new server
we will have a clock, and the levels will be delimited
also by time (for now only by files).

DG> Password access (simply access - the password
DG> of the user is searched and, depending on the
DG> search results, the user is allowed or chased :)

with us, each user has his own password. I
already wrote this.

DG> Viewing texts.

:)

DG> Secret files (can be uploaded, cannot be merged).

and we have any files, until the sysop has looked at them,
cannot be merged.

DG> 48k is enough.

the only advantage.
is it really that big? a lot of people with 48?

DG> Which is definitely not the case, unlike your software:

from OUR software. from SpbZxNet software. or from
software comrade. Masa. but he’s not mine :)

DG> There is no chat, and there’s no use for it in Moscow
DG> without correction protocols...

I wouldn’t say... most of us have chat for 1800, in extreme cases - 600. Many people like it.

DG> Our server can’t automatically give the point his email :(

:(

DG> No levels access.

:((

DG> Inscriptions "SPbZXNet - RuLeZz" when connecting :-)

what an idea! send your software, we have people here willing
to insert such an inscription :)

DG> If everythingthe above is primitive...

hmm... well, it's great, of course, to merge the directory of the
station, mark the files and get them. we
have this too. what can you say about
macros? like in Max, for example? The sysop designs
its own bbs, makes a colorful splash screen,
can write 16 kilobytes of newsletters, which can be read or not?

by the way, in MMD 2.20 macros are accepted
in a much larger buffer - now
the station splash screen can be made even on the entire
screen. Previously - a maximum of 255 bytes,
but even in this number you can squeeze a beautiful
pseudo-graphic picture. for example,
two system macros are allocated to the header:

Zx-Spectrum BBS
812/01.00, SpbZxNet, Russia

Your SysOp: Alex Mikhailov

Your level: 5 Your address: 812/99.99

by the way, each station has its own level and address
in the “header”issues. I'm not an artist, the pictures can be even more beautiful. ;)

how do you like a request like “press any
key to confirm the connection”?

or macros like “you accepted your mail, it is
deleted from the disk, accept the directory again”?

and each sysop designs its bbs
in its own way.

DG> In general, now it’s your turn...

it’s lazy to write further. read the help... :)

DG> Visually, I didn’t see anything stunning,

well so...

From Alex Mikhailov To All 12 May 1997

DG> but I couldn’t see how your terminal was working
DG> (probably I didn’t find a transformer
DG>?),

:)

DG> your documentation is too short...

I, it seems, didn’t send you everything... :(
without a documentation you can’t figure it out.

AM>> IMHO, one of the factors for assessing a network is the perfection
AM>> of the overall system correspondence.

DG> I know of cases when mail from me did not reach
DG> you, do you have such a
DG> gripe on us :)

is this an imperfection of Fido. and I’m talking about internal general
correspondence.

DG> Do you send files?

but how? we even have fahs.

DG> And on the intercity route?

maybe so, while there is no one to supply the current.

DG> In particular, why
DG> did you send me your terminal card by regular mail?

I was too lazy to talk about it - not only Gruzdev
yuyuki don’t like :)) but seriously,
I didn’t have time, and sent it to you
my friend, however, at my request.

DG> - This, in your opinion, is the perfection
DG> of the system?

This has
no relation to the perfection of the system.

DG> By the way, how could I send you our
DG> - at least the people would look
DG> (I won’t go to the post office - and don’t ask ;)

yes, it’s very simple! use YOUR forwarding system. :) so let's see what it
really looks like.

DG> But why did you deprive our network of the gate system with
DG> Fido?

I didn’t deprive you of anything. :) Ihe just said that
we have it better, because
there is full automation. What about you?

DG> You still have to prove the perfection of your software...

in the sense of software? fidoshny? have you read the faq
on our gate?

AM>> Friendship won!!! :). :-/

you're wrong. “coolness” is not an end in itself.
it’s rather a consequence... :)

DG> And the rest is either “will be soon” or “we don’t need it.”

what else?

AM>> says that Peter is not the outskirts of the universe. :)

DG> Don't go to the backyard - relax. Moscow is the backyard of the universe :-/

and Moscow is not the backyard. relax :)

DG> Sincerely, Dmitry (OLDMAN).

From Alex Mikhailov To All 12 May 1997

[SKIP about 2400 bits - I already wrote about this in another letter]

DG> Connected, noted
DG> files and telemarket :) you can do something else.
DG> so it’s a matter of time. or do sysops have nothing to do
except to manually receive mail for an hour?

DG> At the same time, do you still need to blow on the transformer so that
DG> does not overheat? ;)

we have more than 1000 seconds per bbs per day
it’s not falling. this includes echoes, fahes, netmyl...

DG> In general, conscientious sysops
DG> spend quite a lot of time looking through, sorting, designing
DG> their servers... And they don’t die,
DG> however :)

that means I’m not a conscientious sysop. I wouldn't accept mail manually for an hour.

AM>> person? it would be fine if the exchange of mail happened automatically at night,
AM>> but as I understand it, you do everything manually.

DG> As you can see, only preparatory operations are done manually. Do you have this
DG> automated?

preparatory operations will be automated
100% with the advent of the “auto-hub”. Nowadays there is also enough manual work, but it is less than yours. :)

AM>> what do you have, if a user wanted to send a toy to another user,
AM>> he sends it over the network?

DG> If you don’t need a gate, then no - he just throws it to his favorite station, where
DG> it is picked up by those who need it. But maybe through the entire network, ifThere are some difficulties with this
DG> - it will come.

So then they send disks to the gate??? the gate is not rubber. there is only one line on it... :)

AM>> where do “hundreds of kilobytes per day” come from,

DG> Well, not every day ;) And our users like to send toys to each other :)

users generally love toys... even in Africa :)

AM>> or do you mean by “hundreds” of kilobytes all the mail that passes
AM>> through gates and hosts?

DG> What do you understand? Only your personal one? :)

I'm talking about internal only. the one that has to be sent manually. you're talking about a kilobyte, but I can't imagine it... :)

AM>> only its topic says "echo conferences"

DG> The topic only indicates priority. But naturally, a maximum of a couple of people have echoes. In general, we don’t have the same thing at our stations, except
newspapers.

So here’s the “perfection of general correspondence.”
only a couple of people have it. this is precisely the imperfection.

DG>>> What else did you want to see there?

AM>> general correspondence.

DG> And what do you think about soap? ;) There is correspondence there, yes. And there are toys and
other
DG> programs.

yes, I believe, I believe :)

AM>> and we have it too. and everywhere too. Why are you so worked up? ;)

DG> Am I nervous? It was you who began to prove that, in addition to soap and eh,stations
DG> nothing should happen ;)

chegggggooooo?????? :( )

VM>>>> they know about Fido mostly by hearsay,

DG>>> But you have a lot of conversations about her ;)
DG>>> Everyone knows everything, no one hides information from users.

AM>> what are you talking about?

DG> This means that we know about Fido no less than you do :) Or you
DG> more users take me to see Golded? :)

yes, you see, we organize free excursions
on weekends... only they all end the same way:
Mortal Kombat 3... :(:)

AM>> that means everyone in our network is a fanatic.

DG> If you read the previous two sentences, you will understand that not everyone, but
only
DG> those who have Pentiums, but they prefer to write letters in Isdos? :-))

of course not. but in our network almost no one
has a Pentium... :)

DG> Well, our people don’t want to write in the echoes...
DG> Is the network to blame for this?

not the network, of course. but where did this
thought begin? from where general correspondence is better developed.
since it can be better
developed in you if no one writes?

From Alex Mikhailov To All 12 May 1997

DG> First, let's look at the reference books. The last
DG> document is netadr12, dated 24
DG> April. A week ago I uploaded it to
DG> echo.

Alex netmail sends me directories.

DG> The total _registered_ users of
DG> are 121.

and we have already exceeded a hundred... ;)

DG> Our network is not city, not Moscow,
DG> can you understand this or not...

this question? then what "..."? :). but we still have echoes, so

DG> I have already written to you several times that we also have echoes :(

yes, I remember, you don’t need to repeat it ten times
but here we are not talking about your echoes
but about newspapers.

DG> Well, they don’t have proud names, they spontaneously appear and disappear...

that’s why there are a lot of newspapers. :)

DG> Writing articles, in fact, has a slightly different meaning ;)

yeah, you explain this to some of our users
who, instead of writing articles
to the newspaper, throw it into echoes.... :( and into internal ones.

DG> However, you are right - without the Internet it is impossible to organize
DG> forwardingfiles, which means programs, periodicals
DG> publications, conferences...

why is it impossible? maybe, just
it's a little slower and less reliable. but Fido is
a network of people who like to chat in echoes, and therefore
there is no need for high speed... :)

AM>> the size of the network is determined by the number
AM>> of nodes. and out-of-town bbs don't count... :)

DG> Why doesn't this count?

to begin with, they are not in the list of network nodes
ZX-Net, which is on-line. and how do you think I should count them? :)

DG> Although, if someone wanted to open
DG> their own, then why should this
DG> be prevented?

Who is stopping this? if someone starts
to create another network in the same St. Petersburg - good luck.
this is just my personal opinion, and nothing more.

DG> Tell me why you didn’t join ZXNet, but created
DG> your own network?

1. we have different modems
2. the cities are far from each other
3. we knew too little about you. Note that contacts
began only after SpbZxNet had grown
4. It’s never too late to unite ;)

DG> And tell me again - were we against your independence?

Whose independence are we against? :)

DG> Indeed, it is not clear who needs
DG> thousands of BBSes that are not part of any
DG> network,

well, two or three user friends calling them... :)

DG>thousands of Internet servers that do not give any addresses?

that's completely different.

AM>> the software can be leaked for free, then this
AM>> is the death of Speck.

DG> Have you never heard of copy protection?

I heard... a couple of times... and even saw it once!!! :)

DG> Or does your “miracle software” not care?

hmm... here you give the hacker Cris the disk, and, for example,
you go home. you arrive, turn on the modem, and
the program is on your disk... another thing is
that Cris will not sell it on the market,
and I, for example, will not post it on the board,
and if they ask, I will not give it to anyone.
but how many skinny hackers are there in the world who
break for the sake of commerce? How many irresponsible users are there in the world who have installed bbs, who
for the sake of the prestige of their bbs, which is not part of the network,
and, therefore, not subordinate to anyone or anything, will
not give a damn about everything and put it on disk?

in order to avoid such nonsense, it is worth
thinking about the unity of all bbs, that
The Charter, for example, prohibits this matter. then
Spek will live longer.

and “single” bbs current due to broken software can
survive - in all other respects the stations
included in the network are in no way inferior to them
and even superior.

DG> If the author wants to make money on his
DG> program, he either puts protection on it
DG> and distributes
DG> himself or sellsofficial
DG> distributors.

well, well. That's why all the authors moan that you won't make much money on Speck. except, perhaps, Slava... :)

do you know how much there is a new selection of games in St. Petersburg?
10 tyrov! and then the “trader” sells it to users for 7. I sold two disks - and I'm already making a profit...
I'm generally silent about copyright software.

DG> Hacking and/or illegal distribution
DG> needs to be stopped in
DG> court (and I don't need
DG> to tell me how difficult it is to do, I would do it
DG>).

this is a long-standing topic of this echo, and let's not
discuss it for the 100th time, ok?

DG> I can also suggest organizing a campaign
DG> "for the cleanliness of Spectrum servers from
DG> hacks of proprietary programs." I'm serious.

in!!! but there’s no need for a network or a company - it’s prohibited in the Charter, and that’s all. after this, the network will not become the destroyer of Speck, but vice versa. ;)

AM>> it was “prohibited” in the “initial point memo”, and
AM>> most likely will be prohibited in the new Charter,

DG> Well, well... Violation of human rights ;)
DG> Or did you
DG> put the quotation marks for a reason ;)

or did you put a smiley after the “violation
of human rights” for a reason? :)

AM>> although this is still unknown: on the one hand,
AM>> this is logical from the point of view of the fidosh system,

DG> You want to say that fidoshnypoint cannot
DG> open a BBC station that is in no way connected with Fido? :)

I was just saying the opposite here. “This is logical
for a fidoshnik, who can just open
a bbs, not even part of Fido.”

DG> Why can’t other points or even nodes look at this point at the station
DG> (in their free time
DG> from work, of course)?

So why???? installed bbs and immediately received a node address! no confusion and just convenient.
and let them look at him at any
moment. :)

DG> Can you imagine
DG> a person (well, even if he is a point of some network), just
DG> wanting to open a BBC station,
DG> not having to deal with mail
DG> and echoes, just to exchange programs, toys?

So why does she need to join the network??? a network
after all, it is needed specifically for sending mail.
and if a person does not want to forward mail, then
for goodness sake, let him have a bbs.
just one that is not part of the network.

what does a network give to a person? firstly, netmail.
secondly, gates, other networks. After all, he should be interested in at least something in the world, except
toys? This is where external echoes come in handy. then, internal echoes.
people are aware of all the events in the city,
and not only on the ZX platform. what's bad?
it requires almost no effort from him - he called
the hub, merged the mail (10 minutes maximum),
and that's it. it's not himforces
nobody to pour out ALL echoes, ALL possible
mail in a row. what’s interesting - you’ve leaked it,
what’s not necessary - you haven’t leaked it, everything is simple.
and then - turn on the board, and exchange
toys until you’re blue in the face! :)

DG>>> They just don’t want to... They don’t want to yet.

DG> I can repeat it ;) And to add - they don’t see the advantages.

there are no advantages. (see above) not a single one.
only shortcomings.

DG> We don’t force anyone into the network.

and we don’t force anyone.

DG> If a person
DG> doesn’t want to work on the network - let him not work, he won’t be of any use anyway
DG> there.

I agree. that's how it is yes.

From Alex Mikhailov To All 12 May 1997

DG> But in my opinion, they don’t have Golded,
DG> they can’t respond with one keystroke,

IsDos they don’t have!!!! the same one that you in Moscow don’t like so much. Well, don’t love it for your own health. Why complain later? :)

Have you read in news about macros in the is-board? It’s unlikely,
you don’t need an is-board... but if
at least one of your guys made a macro for themselves,
then you don’t need any golded. For me
pressing two keys leads
to the design of the letter (headers, origins,
greetings, dates, quoting, etc.). I
have something to do: mark it with a block and delete
extra pieces and enter comments.

performance is no slower than in Golded.
especially if you type quickly. :)

DG> otherwise many would have gotten involved a long time ago

and you advertise the board on your network
and, lo and behold, they will get involved.

DG> (like me - instead of doing business,
DG> I spend half a day answering your letter,
DG> and this is not because I type slowly
DG> ;)

yeah, I guess it’s not much less... :)

DG> Oh, Lord! Yours have enough, but ours _shouldn't_ have enough?

You contradict in every line. your echoes and ours are different things. We also have
local networks, we also have files like
"ADVERTISING.C" - one kind person
puts all online advertising into a file and
distributes it across stations. but it’s not all that bad! atOur
ehi differ little from the Fidosh ones, except
in themes. and they go regularly, don’t
disappear anywhere, and get to all stations every day.

AM>> I don’t understand everything at all: “a couple of disks” arrive, but no one has seen a single letter
AM>> from the ZX-Net gate in Fido. how's that? :) really
AM>> is the gate a hack??? :))

DG> Firstly, I sent several letters.

manually? :)

DG> Secondly, I ask everyone who has ever received soap from ZXNet to confirm
DG> this to Alex.

netmail, plz :) and also let’s chat about life :)
what I mean is that our points are complaining -
they want to correspond with yours at least
soap, but they just don’t know with whom.
method “pointed his finger at the directory at random”
has not worked for us for a long time. people
want to correspond according to their interests!
at least you gave me the addresses of
several Muscovites who would not mind getting to know our
people, as well as their

into our echoes, maybe it will turn out that...

DG> Thirdly, from now on, the headers of all letters that have passed through the Fido
DG> and Ineta gates will be sent to you until you ask for mercy ;-)

I won't ask for mercy, this gate will suffer... :)
but in general, don't joke like that, otherwise I'll start hitting you with
hundreds kilobytes (disks) files in yuyuki

DG> A letter arrives to me,

and since it goes to 095/100, then the header is already changed on
it?

DG> the body of the letter is formed (I just use
DG> a clipboard or reading a file, since I rarely gate),

yeah, and our sysop The current gate
looks at the statistics - everything is gated automatically:
the spektrumist with Hayes calls him (Sinclair
wire of the gate) and drops in a
package with letters (one large file).
poke the button. everything is scattered according to the necessary echoes and everything is done.
the spektrumist with Hayes takes another package,
in which the fidosh headers are replaced
with SpbZxNet's ones, and if any
soap has arrived, then each letter is in a separate file
and in its name is the address of the point. in short,
people do practically nothing!

AM>> here! finally waited, otherwise I thought that you would never invite me... :)

DG> An example that has little in common with your case-

understandable. but still it is not entirely appropriate.
such a comparison would really be
incorrect.

this will not speak about the Saxony of SpbZxNet?
also my statistics do not speak about the Saxony of

DG> Distribution outside the city is only in the media (although
DG> from there we distribute to the entire network).

Well, we don’t have a stable Internet now,
this slows things down. I don’t have a PC, no
and won’t - no money. and when
things go through other people, who need to be constantly strained, no matter how good they are (they have a job, a family, and Speck already seems almost forgotten, etc.),
then brakes are inevitable. I’m not going to put ZxNews in is-dos, throw it
at the hub, from the hub to the gate and to Fido? :(

as long as I didn’t pester Igor, well, the person doesn’t want to bully me, and that’s all, well, he doesn’t like these

What does my reluctance have to do with it? How can the author of a newspaper
not want its wider distribution?
Am I doing it for myself?

It’s all sad :(

From Alex Mikhailov To All 20 May 1997

DG> Manually? :) Yesterday :^)

ha! Believe me, in the entire history of the existence of
SpbZxNet, I have never had to
call back, restore a “broken”
connection, I would never have needed (if there was) the
option of “receiving files”. Vicomm and his
protocol are good - if the connection is bad,
he clicked try and transmitted the block again.

The server does not hang up at all
even if a global flood begins.
only if it detects short beeps (by the way,
is yours capable of tracking short beeps?).

Hardware fixation of the line simply physically
does not allow you to break the connection. it either exists
(60%) at 1800, or exists at 2400 (30%), or
it doesn’t exist at all (10%). in the latter
case, call any board from the list
and with a 90% probability that you will be able to communicate with it. I wouldn’t say that our lines are better than Moscow’s - I think
both ours and yours are the same. It's just that
it seems that the Wicommka is well adapted
to bad lines, and is no worse than CDOS... :)

DG> Hmm... cool :)

hmm, did you doubt it? :)

From Alex Mikhailov To All 20 May 1997

DG> Against the independence of points, as I understand it ;) Against their desire
DG> to open a station.

that means you misunderstood. point CAN
open its own BBS station, and this right is enshrined
in the Charter. only this point will be a SysOp on its
bbs, but it will not be a SysOp of SpbZxNet.

DG> ... I’ll just say that we went through this together with Speck,

well, well... and how much money did domestic authors receive for
sales on the market in Moscow?
(Inforcom doesn’t count, it lives at the expense of
nonresident “wholesalers” and at least something for the authors pays).
I think it’s not enough. because it was all on the bbs.
we seem to have different understandings of the phrase
"death of Speck." I mean in this phrase
"death to software authors", and not at all "death to sellers"
or "death of the network". the network will exist
for a very long time, even if in the whole country
no one will write anything at all.
just like the sellers. Users will
go to the market for a long time, and helpful traders
will for a long time slip them
“the latest selection, it came out yesterday!”
with Bolder Dush and Batty... the user - he will
buy everything.

DG> IBM also survived the INTERNET :)

nonsense, albeit offtopic. no one there
has been making money on small toys for a long time.
they put up cool protections, release them on
sidyuks,They are engaged in marketing, advertising, they have a “delivered” distribution system. the game brings in fabulous profits in a month or two, and then
is thrown out as unnecessary.
what passes through the internet from the games does not represent the slightest
loss to their authors. What can't be said about the same UFO posted on the Spectrum bbs.

DG> Do you propose to discuss the fight against this with the help of the Network Charter? :)

he forbade anything to discuss, that’s all. Smart
people will understand and appreciate it. and the stupid ones will begin to be indignant at the fact that their rights are being curtailed. this is all quite predictable.

DG> I put a smiley face when I smile :) And
DG> I smile often, not only when I joke.

and when I smile with a cheerful smile, I always joke.
which can’t be said about evil smiles... :)

DG> There’s something I don’t understand... Could this person be a point
DG> himself? What specific stations did you want to “ban”?

I didn’t want to ban anything. if bbs is at the point -
it is not included in the network, if at the node - it is included.
what is unclear here? but in the first case,
since the sysop is also a point, he must
obey the regulations. those. he cannot
put a hacked program on his bbs.
in this case he can be disconnected from the network,
and then let him do whatever he wants alone on
his board. the network is not responsible
to the people for it :)))

DG> It’s the same here and everywhere... No, I’m wondering, in the
DG> charter it is forbidden to open a station, but in your words
DG> “turned on the board”...

hmm... I can’t find this at all.... the point cannot
open a station that is part of the network. well
if you don’t want to be a network sysop, for your health
be a current point and play current toys. just
getting a node is as easy as shelling pears, you don’t need to do almost anything
and you can also register your points.
IMHO, the majority of people will still
receive node addresses, and the network will grow.

As for the Charter - look at your soapbox.

The network of each city is independent and the coordinator is the boss there.
Does mail go? Doesn’t anyone put pressure on anyone? - Here, consider, and united.
