Acorn Archimedes/RiscPC
The ACORN company ceased to exist in 1998.
Acorn computers were popular in the education system
Great Britain, France(?). Processors - ARMb10, ARM710,
StrongARM (25..25OMHz). RAM: 1..HMB Graphics - Large
variety of modes (from 320x240,640x256 and higher) 16, 256, 2Hbit
colors Popular configuration for demoscene - 2..8MB RAM, 1MB
VRAM, 1bbit sound.
Operating system - RiscOS in ROM (2MB), graphical interface
The demoscene from 1991 to 1994 was the most developed - perhaps even
better than ATARI ST. However, some complain that real
there was practically no demo - only “collections” of various effects
without any plot. Perhaps this was facilitated by the powerful
processor (the situation is somewhat close to what is on the PC scene).
There were demo parties - for example, "SILIconvention'97" (Germany),
Revelation'97,98 (England), Yelling Jam Party 96, Intercon Party
97.
Demo size (packed) - usually up to 2MB.
In the ex-USSR and Russia, these machines were found, but no
There were no signs of a demoscene.
Commodore Amiga
The Commodore company ceased to exist. Development of new
There are no models; old ones are produced by third companies.
The most common models: Amiga 500 - Motorola 68000 -
7.1ХMHz, Chip RAM - 512K, OCS Graphics (Amiga 500+ - ECS) Amiga
1200 - Motorola 68020 - 1ХMHz, Graphics - AGA.
320x200..1280x512(1024) 256 colors from a palette of 1 billion, in some
modes 4096 ..600000 colors simultaneously.
All models have their own controllers for music and graphics
(Alice, Lisa, Paula) Sound - 4 channels (2 + 2), 8 bits. Hardware -
sprites, raster effects. There are additional
accelerators that increase productivity without loss
compatibility. Operating system - 512KB KickStart in ROM +
AmigaOS (multitasking, WorkBench GUI)
On the Amiga it existed and still exists (although not as much as before)
the most developed demoscene. The best (to this day) demos were written
specifically for this platform: State Of the Art, Fingers,
Technological Death, Front242, many others. The basis of the scene
were people who came with a Commodore 64 (the rest of them went to
PC). In the USSR and Russia, the demoscene and software development in general
software for the Amiga is poorly developed, although it appears sometimes
small intro.
Atari 8bit (XE/XL)
Discontinued production and support (1992). Were distributed
in Poland, USSR, Germany. Processor: 6502, 1.79MHz Memory:
64K-128K RAM, 16K+8K ROM (OS + ATARI BASIC) Graphics: 320x192, up to
16 colors (11 graphic and 6 text modes), sprites Sound:
4 channels Chip names: ANTIC, POKEY, CTIA, FREDDY
It was quite widespread in the USSR and Russia as
pure gaming machine. Similar in class to Commodore 64, however
is more oriented towards toys and has a weaker
iron. The demoscene has existed since about 1994. Conducted
demo party (for example Quast Party'97, CodeCopy'97). In Russia
there was probably no demoscene.
Atari ST
Production and support discontinued. Was distributed in
Germany. Includes various models: Atari 52OST, 10CHOST, Mega
ST, STe, STacy, Mega STe, TT, Falcon. Motorola based machine
68000...68030 (like Amiga), memory - 128kb..HMB, disk drive. B
older models 8 bit stereo sound, 4096 colors, hardware
scrolling, HDD. Popular (even now) among professionals
musicians. It was quite widespread in the USSR and Russia.
The demoscene existed from 1987 to approximately 1993 (later
only a few things appeared). In Russia there is probably a demoscene
was absent.
БКOO10,0011
16-bit Soviet home computer (foreign
has no analogues). BKOO10 - ЗMHz (appeared in 1985),
BKOO11M - HMHz Processor KP1801BM1(?) - Soviet analogue
DEC's (PDP command system). As additional
devices are used (on demoscene) sound through
YM2149F/Covox/Sound Drive, as well as HDD (OS - MK-DOS, ANDOS,
CSI-DOS),
In the USSR and Russia there is a demoscene, sometimes demos are held
party (BC-MANIA'97).
