            for ex-USSR users of ZX-SPECTRUM

    Dear Speccy users! Today I want to tell you
some thoughts about the future of one of the
today's largest electronic publications - Born Dead.

    I hope you all know perfectly well what Born Dead is!? If
no, let me remind you - Born Dead is an electronic newspaper (or
disk-zine if someone likes it better), published from the end
1998 in the city of Samara by a group of people known as
Legendary Born Dead Crew. The publication is aimed at various
layers of users of the ZX-SPECTRUM computer. At the moment
16 issues were published, the release date of the last one was July 2000.

    Creatingnewspaper we pursued two goals, both of which
can be considered primary.  Interesting and sensational material
which formed the basis of the publication was always intertwined with the latest
programming technologies that were embodied in the shell.
An important part was the musical and artistic
design, as well as the general style and design that was
developed and supported throughout all issues.

    For two years, Born Dead, according to many, was the leader on
electron in the ZX SPECTRUM's information space.  Us
managed not only to convey the latest news to readers
first, but also constantly raise the bar that corresponded
modern ideas about electronic publishing. However, the most
most importantly, thanks to the fantastic popularity of Born Dead,
entire regions of our country arose from sleep and
an unprecedented phenomenon on SPECCY - the disk-zine scene! Moreover
the successors of our work boldly challenged the “founding fathers”
in the form of new, original ideas and independent design of their
publications  Real competition appeared, which made the release
disk-zines are a truly interesting and worthy cause.

    At the same time, work on Born Dead is practically non-existent.

Having soberly assessed the situation today, I - UnBEL!EVER^x7m -I decided to openly declare that:

    from now on I am completing my modest attempts to organize
    any projects on demo/game scenes and completely
    I dedicate myself to a stage journalist.  At the same time, from
    faces of all newspaper publishers, I am forced to declare
    _termination_ of the BORN DEAD project...

    Based on the results of the last issue, it is obvious that we have squeezed out
maximum from the current forat of the newspaper.  Further development
impossible, since it is constrained by the existing shell,
so is the whole ideological scheme according to which publications are made.
Continue making BORN DEAD in the format it is now,
would mean stopping in place and slowly but surely coming
to the dead end that many others found themselves in at one time
publications

    However, I know what needs to be done to create a new edition,
a publication with a long and bright future, dizk-zine of the 21st century! you
You're probably already wondering what the shell will look like
this disk-zine, in which direction will 5Ofps occur
scroll, and what hardware is required to make it work. You see,
you are also fixated and going to a dead end. The 21st century edition is something
more than just text, sprites and scrolling... And there's more to it
Perhaps it will soon come to your homes!

    So, first of all, the new e-zine will work on ANY
computer compatible with ZX SPECTRUM 128K. And in the concept"any" will also include a disk interface!  We're not going
limit the circle of readers only to those who use Beta Disk.

    Further, there will be no restrictions on font size and
use of graphics. The material can be typed in any font,
use both small sprites and entire full-screen ones
pictures, as well as have arbitrary coloring. And of course
all this will be accompanied by a 5Ofps shell, and smoothness and
performance is guaranteed on ANY ZX SPECTRUM model and
clones

    The publication will contain material in two main languages -
Russian and English. If possible, we will duplicate each
article in both languages, but be prepared to read the one you are interested in
you information only in English - this is quite natural in
our time!

    The main theme of the e-zine is the demoscene and everything that comes with it
related.   However, in addition to this, we plan to publish
historical and research materials about 8-bit computers.
Despite the fact that the format for the e-zine will be ZX SPECTUM 128,
this will not stop us from writing about other, no less interesting
home computers.  We promise the main thing - the material will be high
professional and certainly interesting.

    Since the project is at an early stage of development, no
no mention of periodicity of publication. The first issue is planned
release no later than the endOctober of this year.  Everything will be
depend on the coordination of actions of all those who will work
on this project. Naturally, the main group of publishers is
the creators of the old BORN DEAD, well known to you. However, not
will do without new faces!  First of all, we need authors
interesting materials related to the topic of the publication, as well as
people capable of translating and proofreading texts in English,
as well as some European languages.
