                            LIKBEZ

   Thus, the new section. The word "literacy campaign" I'm
scared disgusting, but nothing more worthy could not come up. :
(

   The reason for the creation of this section was the next
intro where our attackers were carrying another type of
nonsense "Hillo! I presents game call Frogger" ... Look at it
was so sad and however, intolerable, I decided to try to
correct such plight in terms of English grammar. Especially,

Inlayt what is coming, but to show to foreigners with demos
texts of this type (as it was on E'96) - then hit the face in
the dirt. And the situation is really disgusting. From authors
more or less literate texts in English, I remember only
MUSICSOFTa, MAGIC SOFTa, HACKERS SQUADa and STEPa, of course.
:)

   So, in this article I want to start a "familiarization" of
the broad masses with English grammar as applied to texts in
demah and intro. We should start to deal with the Present
Indefinite Tense and the Past Indefinite Tense, and the rest -
will follow. :) But first, some general trends ... Several
years ago, became a English fashion distort and transform it
into a computer Slang, for example: "Hi zere! C00lest guyz from
4eva Gr0up prezent ze game 4 U! ". I do not know who first came
up with this horror, but he hides the lack of English really
well:" Go figure it out, where is the error and where "new
style". But I do not advise our hackers to prove his toughness
in a similar way: better to read this article until the end
and, perhaps, the need in this slang will disappear by itself.

   Another remark. At one time the company Broderbund (?),
Which released Lode Runner, has given this game the phrase
"proudly presents" ("Proudly presents ")... This phrase is very
pleased with our attackers and it is a long time wandered from
one to another intro. Nothing wrong with that, I do not see.
While on the other hand, as can be "Proud", for example,
releasing a new version of Amiga Tetris'a? So Anyway I must say
thanks to the firm Brodurbund, that the phrase "proudly
presents" she wrote without error, without giving a reason the
appearance of more clumsy lyrics in the intro ...

   Okay, go straight to the point ...

                "Presents", or not "presents"?

   Indeed, when you need to write a verb present (emphasis on
the last syllable, by the way!), and when the presents?
Apparently, most intromeykerov this is unknown, otherwise there
were no errors on this topic in half an intro.

   The correct answer is to understand the essence of Present
Simple. According to the rules of English grammar, the verb is
added ending "s" ("es") only when the subject is in the third
person singular. That is when the subject responds to questions
of 'he', 'she', 'it'. In all other cases the verb is identical
with the infinitive:

   I present (I imagine)

   You present (you / you imagine / ete)

   We present (we represent)

   They present (they are)

   Kano 'Softstar (plural) present

   Dream Makers (plural) present

   CodeMasters (plural) present

   but:

   He presents (it is)

   She presents (it is)

   It presents (it is:)

   Gudkov Ivan (ed. number, = he) presents

   Ivanova Elena (ed. number, = she) presents

   Dream Makers Software (ed. number, = it) presents

   CodeMasters Limited (the number of units, = it) presents

   Step Creative Group (ed. number, = it) presents

                          TO vs FOR

   Why in some cases written "Press space TO enter", and
Other "Press enter FOR space"? :) In short, when you have to
put TO, and when the FOR?

   The answer is very simple and brief. An excuse to put before
verb, and for - in all other cases. Examples:

   Press Q to quit (quit (exit) - verb)

   Press 1 to start game (start (start) - verb)

   Press any key to continue (continue (continue) - verb)

   Open your eyes to see the light (see (see) - a verb)

   Press I to get more information on enemy players

   but

   Press any key for continuation

      (Continuation (continuation) - noun)

   Close your eyes for relaxation (relaxation - noun)

   Press ENTER for next page

   Press I for more information

                            Slang

   This is an area in which I analyze the worst. But still
summarizes accumulated after watching the intro and the set
dem. Here I will mention only standard abbreviations:

   2 = to

   U = you

   ya = you

   ye = your

   4 = for

   4ever = forever

   wanna = want to

   gimme = give me

   Y = why

   V = we

   B = be

   C = see

   R = are

   Z = that

   K = key

   L8 = late

   L8R (L8ER) = later

   some1 (etc.) = someone

   gonna = are (is) going to (?)

   'N' = and

   'M = him

   'Em = them

   That's all I could remember.

                      Analysis of the mistakes of others

   They say that learning from mistakes. Now we are going to do
just that. Consider a few examples that have occurred actually
be:

                   1) Digital Reality. Dr.Who

   "Wicked ya!!! Perfectly guys from Digital Reality of Russian
Prestige presents ... "

   Immediately striking the word "presents". So now we
know what needs to be replaced. Another error - the word
"perfectly". The fact that it is an adverb and is translated as
"Completely", while we need the adjective "perfect"
("perfect"). And, finally, do not understand the phrase "wicked
ya". "Wicked" is translated as "evil", so ...

   Here's how I would write the phrase with this in mind:

   Perfect guys from DR / RPSG present ...

                2) Titus' SoftStar. Bubble Dizzy

   "Now, Titus and SoftStar presents for you Bubble Dizzy ..."

   First of all, once again present. And then, why the comma
after now?

   Right: Now Titus' SoftStar present ...

                  3) Stars of Keladan. Oberon 2

   "Stars of Keladan Hackers Group present Oberon # 2 from
Samara."

   All the same present AKA presents.

   Correct: SOK HG presents Oberon # 2 from Samara.

                4) Virtual Brazers. Fast Coded demo

   "Romanov Vitaly 'Hacker Cris presents special for Enlignt'96
Fast Coded demo. "

   Here as many as 3 errors. First of all, once again presents
(apparently many choose present or presents at random, as
similar errors are less than half of the intro). , (

   Another error - Enlight Enlignt'om called them. But the
third - instead of adverbs specially (especially) put the
adjective special (special). By the way, a fairly common
mistake.

   Correct: Romanov Vitaly 'Hacker Cris present specially for
Enlight'96 Fast Coded demo.

                  5) Flash Inc. Pick'n'Pile etc.

   "Flash Inc suggested 4U full version cool game called Pick'n
' Pile ... "

   Forgive me fleshevtsy, but here is found _polnoe_
lack of English. First of all, why is the verb to suggest a
past tense? Secondly, the verb does not require behind
preposition. Third, omitted the preposition of (before the word
cool). Fourthly, the verb "to suggest only used in relation

to some sort of idea (to suggest an idea). In this case,
however, offered something material, hence it must be replaced
verb to offer.

   In short, I would say this: Flash Inc. offers you a full
version of the cool game called "Pick'n'Pile" ...

   "Press ENTER to print next page or press SPACE to let's go!"

   In general, "let's go" - short for "let us go", so this
phrase to be translated completely absurd: "... press the
spacebar to enable us to go;) Something like ... Enough was
simply "... press SPACE to go", at least not without errors.

                   6) FireSoft. Draconus 128

   "Now setted turbo accelerator. Reset his, and reload game."

   There is still trenchant! Firstly, the verb "to set - is
wrong, it the third form - set. Secondly, in the first sentence
confused word order (verb comes before the subject). Third, in
the same sentence, instead of having to Present Indefinite
Passive used something vague.

   We now turn to the second sentence ... Fourthly, it is
unclear why the turbo-accelerator "is an animate object (his).
Fifth, why his or its? The impression is that translated word
for word and the dictionary: "it" - it is really "his", just
not in this context (right: it). Well, in the sixth, not
understand why you need a comma before the and. Indeed, in this
case question, even a complex sentence ...

   Thus, the correct version: "The turbo accelerator is set now.
Reset it and reload game ".

                       7) Mafia. Pitfighter

   So we reached the Mafia ... I took an example Pitfighter,
Although it was possible to consider any of their work - there
would be errors no less ... Parse such texts is useless, as they

all are subject to adjustment. So I decided to immediately
correct version - I hope everything will be clear.

   "Koolest ravers from Mafia back in another creation's Pit
Fighter ... "

   Correct: "The coolest ravers from Mafia are back with their
other creation "Pit Fighter".

   "If U have talants in drawing?

     or may be you write kool song?

      or you really best coder?

       or trader, swapper, diller?

        zen Mafia wait U, cal "

   Comments: The word "talant" does not exist (there is a
"talent")

              the word "dealer" is translated as d "ealer"

              "Cal" is spelled with two l;)

   Revised I bring fear, because of this phrase
simply would not have left. But the same thought I would have
expressed so: "If you are a talented artist, if you are capable
to write cool songs, if you are the best coder, if you are
trader, swapper or dealer then Mafia is waiting for you ... "Of
course, as a wry and tumble. It is even possible that there is
an error. But although the meaning of the phrase is clear. :)

   "Who wants buy / swapp new produkt zen call two Mafia House
now and u see kool cooperaton "...

   Again, the principle did not want to give the correct
version, because what been written here - complete nonsense
with a bunch of errors. Therefore few comments:

   1) bue / bye / buy / byu / bey, etc. :) Is it really so hard
to remember: "until" - "bye", "buy" - "buy". Here, fortunately,
Joker guessed - correctly configured. Only here, not all such
lucky;)

   2) the verb to want calls after him to;

   3) swap is spelled with one p.

   4) Future Indefinite Tense is formed by adding the words
will before the verb ... Ie "You will see" ...

   In my opinion, enough for the first time. But if someone
else will questions - do not hesitate to ask ... I will answer
directly to the newspaper. A at first, enough for what I said.
Successful transfer!
