MalShYk, have you ever actually seen HT?
And the description of processors from Intel?
Who told you what you said?
Don’t confuse God’s gift with scrambled eggs!
640 kb this is DOS, that is, disk OPERATING system, and it has nothing to do with
memory addressing by the processor.
And memory addressing in the ZX128 and XT is MONOPENISSUAL!
I tell you this as a therapist.

S> Of course, anything above 640 is a complete perversion. Here I agree.

For those who are from the tank, I repeat:
The processor has nothing to do with 640 - 640 kb, this is a limitation
of the OPERATING system.

>> S> the wrong way, trying to reinvent the wheel - understand, cheaper
>> S> There is simply NO Intel-compatible chipset and equipment for it on the market
>> S> !

And in the market, excuse me, which one?
If you mean the food market, the one near the grocery store on the corner
then yes, but in the processor market Intel and its analogues are NOT now
the cheapest, in terms of price :) and not what everyone thought!

S> Hm. I mean computers with _normal_ capabilities.

U"computer" capabilities are not normal or not normal,
they can only correspond/not correspond to the task.

S> And computers with
S> capabilities _like_ IBM have only 1 - PowerPC.

First of all, let's "separate the flies from the cutlets" and try to understand what you wanted
to say......
IBM is a company manufacturer of PowerPC processors............
If you were to compare IBM-compatible computers with computers based on a
PowerPC processor, then you are definitely wrong!
The PC market today is so wide that you might not have noticed it.

S> Of course there are cars and
S> cooler ones, but in this case they don’t appeal to me interested.

Have you studied the Russian language?

>> High-tech product, is it Windows 95???? Yes, on speccy, any program

S> Brother, you are confusing concepts. And as for Vynya95, this is even cooler than older computers. And why do you think that all PC people are such idiots that they respect take out95? You think badly about people!

"Actually, brother! I bought a computer today and it has such a smart stand for
coffee, you press a button and it comes out... well, in reality I'm dragging myself...."
(C) new Russian.
I would also like to correct: all the programs I have seen (and broken ;) for ZX
definitely were thought out and optimized, not only better than Win 95,
but also almost all operating systems for PCs I have seen.
The only exception (only confirming the rule) is TR-DOS and IS-DOS
both IMHO written in a drunken stupor.....

>> S> software? WHO WILL WRITE IT? Who among the Sinclairists
>> S> will be able to create something even vaguely reminiscent of MS Office or
>> S> my favorite Quark Xpress?

God forbid that they create a similarity of these monsters for the ZX!
And actually speaking, WHY?
ZX and PC are different computers for solving different problems.
By the way a bourgeois working with his “favorite Quark Xpress” would be completely indescribable horror when he found out that you are using this product for a PC,
his stupid bourgeois head can’t figure out the combination of graphics and PC.

S> But it’s unlikely that this IS-DOS is cooler than Quark. Although I haven’t seen it, and therefore
S> I’ll refrain from commenting.

And you’re right, these are different things - so the comparison is incorrect.

>> S> to play it - I have Warcraft II. Of course, the black raven is not on

I feel sorry for people who devote themselves to games :(
their name is even “gamers”, IMHO “gamerism” is a disease
and perhaps even inevitable, it needs to be overcome...
But in some pathological cases it drags on or even becomes
incurable.....

S> Sorry, butBefore calling a person a lamer, you must justify
S> your point of view.

Well yes?
Substantiate your “only true and correct” point of view and call him a lamer
?
And you little one can justify your point of view on the concept of “lamer”?

S> Were you not taught at school to be responsible for your words?

If only everyone was taught at school - we wouldn’t argue....

S> An opinion about the game is formed taking into account many components.
S> And far from the least of them is graphics. It is directly related to the
S> component of “pleasure”.

Keep the flies from the cutlets!
Let’s not argue about “pleasure” since there is no such component ;))
Games using excellent graphics (I have not seen such on PC)
are, figuratively speaking, a surprise of one day, and games in of which the main thing is not
graphics, they live for many years and even decades.
There wassuch a game on the ZX "Elite" (look on the Internet)
, this is the clearest example of games of the second type.

S> And if you are talking about strategic games (such as "SSI masterpieces"), then yes,
S> graphics are not needed there anymore. However, like the games themselves of this kind.

MalSHYk, I advise you to stop speaking for everyone!
If these games are released, then someone needs it!

Well, I can only hope that WC 2 was not written by the soft shop of Bill
Gates......

Eeeee, what is the connection between megabytes and operating systems?

It's a pity that I'm not too smart.....

Over those IMHO, who confuse everything without hitting, and having the rudiments of knowledge about technology
in general, climbs like ..........

This is not in HUMOR - this is in the morgue, IMHO this is incurable.

S> And just imagine Netscape on Specky. Or the same Word. Maybe I should give way
S> to someone in HUMOR?

Oh damn, I’ll drop everything, get ZX from the very top shelf and .......
write Netscape for ZX ......
You shouldn’t laugh, in 1993 I was seriously engaged in developing a “pseudo-graphical”
interface on Z80, it’s a pity they tore it off in time ;)

S> Ok, I’ll just write for you another day. You know, I’m also not alone -

What are you saying? Don’t you want 64 kb windows almost like on Sinclair? Only
the switch looks a little different - to the Speccy port, and on the PC instead of it
4 processor registers. It’s just that data and codes may be located in different segments. But it doesn't make much sense.

Not cooler. Tell me, to create special effects in Hollywood, what do they use overclocked Intel stumps at 133 MHz? Probably for
this they still use Silicones...
BTW, you gave a slightly incorrect example, because Quark
Xpress is, after all, a native Apple program. At the PC it is used in a very narrow circle. As a rule, they make do with Word. And the capabilities of the
IS-DOS editor may well meet most tasks...

Don't delude yourself about the full version :)) Trouble never comes alone :( It turns out that there are 3.5 kb of free memory left. You'll have to either
throw something away, or do it like in WC - left-sided sprites on the go
turn out to be a mirror image of the right-sided ones - which will probably lead to
slowdown. Or not to really develop intelligence (the easiest thing :))

Still, good graphics are good :) So (if anyone remembers) the whole
conversation began - about the urgent need to improve graphic
possibilities.

AF> IBM does not produce processors! PowerPC is produced by Motorola!..

So......one more :(
Young man, shouldn’t you read the literature?
For you personally, I’ll tell you a terrible secret - the PPC processor was developed by the ALLIANCE
IBM Apple Motorola. And the only one of the participants that does not produce
PPC is Apple. Although I personally haven’t seen PPC from IBM yet.

AF> And they (the prots) have nothing to do with PC
AF> Hmmm...... This is definitely in the morgue
You are a young man, please express your uh... thoughts somehow
more clearly, or something...
If I understand you correctly, you have never seen a computer on PPC ,
compatible with what you called “PC”.
I’ll explain, such computers exist and even work ;)
And a lot of what you call “PC” works on them.

AF> Andrey Fedorov AKA Alien

That’s exactly Andrey Fedorov You are here exactly “Alien”,
by the way me too. I am connected with the ZX by wonderful memories and .....
the Z80 processor.
If you don’t know something yet, it’s better to pester me.

Get msg, Turnovskiy!

10 Jun 97 10:11 -- Turnovskiy Mishail told Alex Letaev about ZX RULEZ:

TM> I can’t imagine how such a drawback of crafting as the limitation
TM> on the number of units, introduced due to lack of memory, will be circumvented. After all, the memory spec
TM> has significantly less than 8 MB.

This is not the worst thing, because Of these 8MB, 90% are graphics. The descriptor of one unit on the spec fits perfectly into 20 bytes (even 19), in contrast to, for example, UFO-2, where 32 bytes were required. The allocated 2k is enough for 102 heroes.

But trying to make WC2 seems really difficult, because... for
a 128x128 map (versus 64x64 in WC1) will require 32k (with 2 bytes per cell).
In this case, the map + hero_data + projectile/spell_data + building_data
+ most_variables + 6k_shadow_screen must be in memory
accessible from all pages, i.e. from #4000 to #C000, and there are only 32k :(((

Therefore, if WC2 is to be on the Spectrum, then with a smaller card (80x80 or
128x64) and only on 256k machines (and obviously without air heroes, otherwise the field cell descriptor will grow from 2 to 3 bytes)

With warm regards Hello, Slava.

In such games, in my opinion, intelligence is most needed. You can even sacrifice a little
graphics and speed (although this is bad for real-time
strategy), but the better the logic of the computer, the more interesting it is to play.

VM> For the same reason, all subsequent games will be (if they are ;) 256k

I assume that the number of Scorpion players will continue to grow. And probably the main thing
is to simply support all options for clicking pages, or do something like
a request for a separate small file containing a
memory table.
