Destruction of piracy as a class (nothing else remains :( )

ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»

From Andrew Savichev To All 10 March 1998

Hi, All!
Sorry for being offtopic!

So, gentlemen traders, I will take the liberty to address you
on behalf of the authors, known and unknown, present and future.
Piracy must be ended as a class, maybe even by Stalinist
methods, i.e. destroy them as a class!
Be happy about this and find out who exists for whom,
a pirate for a hacker, or a hacker for a pirate, or both for our
"Spectrum freebies", of which we have 80% :(, time has passed!
The bourgeois software is over! And either the pirates will now become fatter than ever,
either we will destroy them, or they will die Spectrum :(
The model of the author's previous relationship with traders does not work,
you can see it yourself. You cannot end the pirates!
Well, don't really put them on a chain and don't break the Spectrums of the hackers
cooperating with them.
Therefore, for some time we need to introduce an EMERGENCY!
People need to explain that this measure forced and introduced for a limited
period of time.
They will object to me that under what current law of the Russian Federation is this to be done.
And on the basis of what kind of law does theft and theft of
intellectual property exist?
To the WHITE TAG, WE WILL ANSWER WITH A BLACK TAG!!!
Therefore, gentlemen traders, think carefully before refusing.
First question: how to make sure that the least amount of people get hurt?honest
traders and spektrumists who buy normal, non-stolen software.
And the second question: how to deal a FATAL Blow to the pirates, the hackers serving them and the 50% of buyers who are not disdainful of buying stolen software.
The easiest and most unrealistic thing would be to persuade these buyers not
to buy stolen goods, that is, simply “encode them"!
In the most interesting place of any game, the inscription
“You bought stolen software! Tomorrow you will not have new games and Spectrum
will die”
But then it will affect the psyche of honest people too. Although if a person is honest, then this should not hurt him. But even a dishonest person may have buried his conscience so deeply that he doesn’t care, although he probably still doesn’t give a damn about Spectrum. ;)
At the entrance to each BBS, you can also draw a pitiful picture of a crippled Diz and the inscription “Friend, you are crippling me by stealing copyright
software.” In general, _total psychological terror_ is quite an effective thing, especially since our susceptibility to this has been in our genes
since the time of the father of all nations.

Try to find another way out of this situation.
Perhaps it has already been found by Alex Letaev, Evgeniy Malkov
or someone else. Perhaps this is even a secret decision, because the pirates also
read our echo and apparently have decided for themselves that we andThey can't do anything
and therefore they act like Vaska the cat in Krylov's fable:(
Just let someone responsibly say: “Don't worry,
gentlemen, authors, we will solve this problem by the end of 1998.”

With respect, Andrey Savichev/CGS

Physically? :). Vorona? Or on a couple of fresh programs a year?

The last two points can be combined into one.

No way.

Any normal hacker-pirate plays through the game himself before selling it. Seeing the inscription,
he will break it and write some nasty stuff in its place.

AS> But then it will affect the psyche of honest people too. Although if

Now imagine - they come up to this honest person and say:man, are you not fed up with various stupid inscriptions during the game? Got enough? Buy the game from us,
five times cheaper and without inscriptions.
I think he will.

“you” - who has it? :). there will be nothing to steal, and the pirates will disappear.

Cut off the possibility of selling stolen software :)
1) Supply traders with sandwiches with beer and copyrighted programs faster than pirates do. Those. establish contact with traders of all major cities and when
the release of the author's program they could receive it as quickly as possible.
2) Complicate the protection to delay time, so that legal traders have time to
distribute the author's version before a broken line appears.

The user will be at a loss, even if he bought the branded version, and it has all sorts of inscriptions, then he will soon end up in a mental hospital. And can’t a hacker
remove this inscription and insert something like “well done for buyingbroken version, thus
you didn’t overpay extra money"

Only Chernomyrdin can say this, and only if he has a Spectrum. So
people, let's chip in for the Spectrum for Chernomyrdin, you'll see they'll start jailing :)

Well, what can we say about Andrew Savichev's proposal, of course all this is
naive and, to put it mildly, frivolous. Because Author's software is money, and as we all know, everyone needs money, and it doesn't matter how to get it honestly or not. Hence the conclusion: that talking (persuading) cannot calm the pirates down. Here's a simple
example for you, you probably rode as a hare in public transport, but this is illegal and someone suffers from this, and when you enter the bus you probably try to position yourself so that the
conductor doesn't notice you and knocks off your cabbage for the fare. Here we gothe pirate
argues, in our own way, in Russian, why should I take vodka in a bottle and pay money for a
bottle, if I can get it cheaper for bottling, the bottle is still unnecessary.
If anyone doesn’t understand, then I’ll explain it on my fingers - the person doesn’t care whether it’s the author’s or
not, the main thing for him is the content, and it’s the same (if the hacker hasn’t ruined the program).
We’ll finish here and so we are already tired of the discussion, so please, if
texts on this topic do not contain any practical suggestions, then it is better to write about
something more useful than who are hackers, pirates and how to deal with them.
