TR-DOS (revision)

From Pavel Fedin To All 3 November 1997

Hello, Andrey Mihaylow! I remember that on 02 Nov 97 you took it and launched
in All with this:

AM> Greetings, dear All!

AM> So I decided to present for your consideration our revision of TR-DOS, alpha version 6.06
AM> I won’t tell you the differences, I just want to ask you what you would like
AM> to see in the new TR-DOS , I will convey your wishes to its authors, now
AM> is working on an option to have the command hardwired into TR-DOS (input
AM> "shift" + "drive"), an option with an IDE screw is also being worked out, but here
AM> I would like to comply with the
AM> standard. Namely, what should TR-DOS be like on a screw - “box” or something
AM> something else?

My wishes are:

1) Read my book - it describes a bunch of errors of standard TR-DOS.
I would like to have them corrected.
2) Shouldn’t I throw out the command processor altogether? Leave it only
15619. In 15619 it would be nice to provide for working with files with any
extension.
3) Finally, do normal error handling. And then we got these Tape
loading error. And it would be nice to stop the drive at No disc
in BASIC.
4) As for the screw - IMHO you need to have a pack of partitions - disk images.
You can name them from E: to Z: - that should be enough.
5) For the future - in the ROM there is a useless BASIC-128. This is another 16 kb.
You can use them for something useful.

By the way, I would like to have a look at the latest of your firmwares and
test it - I have a MapROM. But it’s better not in Khobet, but simply
copied - the starting address and length are still known. :-)

Bye, with a pack of vicious, Pavel Fedin.

From Andrey Khristov To All 7 November 1997

Hi, Pavel! (0-255) used - 0-80
Sector number - byte (0-255); used - 0-15
If we use 100%, we get addressing up to 16 meg per partition, and practically
The format of the directory...

Of course, the directory size will need to be increased...
Or make nested directories...

With best wishes - Andrey Khristov (ha...@robin.alt.ru)

Hello, Andrey Khristov! I remember, on 07 Nov 97 you took it and launched
at me with this:

AK> For a screw, you can make disk images wider without much damage: Cylinder number
AK> - byte (0-255) used - 0-80 Sector number - byte
AK> (0-255); used - 0-15
AK> If we use 100%, we get addressing up to 16 meg per partition, and
AK> practically
AK> Trash directory format...

In principle, there can really be as many tracks as you like. TR-DOS doesn't care about this. It’s more difficult with sectors, but it’s also possible. But what about the number
of files? IMHO this is much more difficult...

AK> Of course, the directory size will need to be increased...
AK> Or make nested directories...

This will be completely incompatible. Although, to hell with this compatibility!
Imho, a new OS needs to be made...
