“Super problem of the century” or “Flaw in the Shalaev emulator or something else?”

From Andrew Garavsky To All 23 October 1997

Salute, Alex!

It was the day of Sun 19 Oct 1997, it was about 18:05.
Alex Kovrigin talked with Andrew Garavsky about the statement
""Super problem of the century" or "A flaw in the Shalaev emulator or something else?":

AK>>> The fact is that the emulsion itself (Shalaevsky) works with
AK>>> disk images that he himself creates from real floppy disks. From
AK>>> from this point of view, the hobet seems to be unnecessary - inserted the floppy disk and
AK>>> dumped it into a disk image.
AG>> We won’t talk about how he reads these floppy disks... Except
AG>> the fact that
AK>
AK> We won’t! It reads them just fine, even better than the hobets :)
Who...
AG>> would it prevent you from reading them and at the same time being able to read
AG>> hobets files from the screw?
AK>
AK> Yes, everything is as simple as day, TR-DOS works with floppy disks, and not
AK> with individual files taken from these floppy disks.
Ha. And the emulator will write hobeta files from the screw to these virtual EMULATED floppy disks.
AK>>> hobeta was invented much earlier in order to
AK>>> Spectrum TR-DOS programs be stored in the MS-DOS file system. And
AK>>> it honestly fulfills its purpose.
AG>> I don’t argue, but why should I use two programs when it’s just for purely
AG>> practical reasonscan and should all of this be inserted into one?
AK>
AK> Then it would be better to integrate everything into DosNavigator (and the emulator itself too).
AK> Nonsense? That's right, it's better to let the emulator emulate, zcop copy,
AK> i.e. everyone minds their own business.
There is no need to exaggerate. DH has nothing to do with it at all, but the emulator is obliged to somehow
understand ALL popular formats without external utilities.
It’s the same as if in order to run a DOS program under W95 you would have to first convert it
to DOS with something, and then run W95 and this program.
Nonsense? So I say, nonsense.
AK>>> IMHO this is not the emulator's business, copying ;)
AG>> I do not agree with your IMHO. Who will it hurt? If you want, you
AG>> will continue to use zcopy or zxtools.
AK>
AK> I use ZCOP regularly, and the emulator very rarely. Just
AK> imagine if this function had been built into the emulator,
AK> then ZCOP would never have appeared ;)
But it has already appeared. ;)
AG>>>> Simple, convenient and suits everyone. Why not? And support for *.z80
AG>>>> is not at all harmful - at least to simply and quickly
AG>>>> save the results of your work/game in the emulator.
AK>>> In general, it would be nice to make support for all formats
AK>>> (meaning all sorts of bourgeois formats in the style of Z80, SNA, MIRAGE).
AG>>Whoa. Just look at the zx32 - an abyss of formats. And who does this
AG>> feel bad for?
AK>
AK> Everyone. If there was one format (the same Z80), it would be much simpler.
But the fact is there are many of them. And who feels bad that he understands them all?
AG>>>> what’s going on. But since now I have such a big and beautiful keyboard,
AG>>>> why not use it rationally?
AK>>> ZCOP rulez ;)
AG>> Well, let it be, but I would like to say “Shalaev emul - rulez”. A
AG>> I can’t yet...
AK>
AK> Easy, because... he's the best so far.
Hmm? Where are the multicolors?

Best wishes, Andrey. [Team PosKot -=004=-]

AG> Ha. And the emulator will write hobeta files from
AG> screws to these virtual EMULATED floppy disks.

Why does it need this? ;)

AG> There is no need to exaggerate. DH has nothing to do with it at all, but the emulator is obliged to somehow
AG> or otherwise understand ALL popular formats without external utilities.

Hobeta is not a format.

AG> It’s the same as if to run a DOS program under W95 you had to
AG> first convert it to DOS with something, and then run it W95 and this
AG> program. Nonsense? So I say, nonsense.

But the format of the hobet is, first of all, intended to be
converted to something under DOS.

AG>>> Well, let it be, but I would like to say “Shalaev emul is wrong.” In the meantime
AG>>> that I can’t...

From Andrew Garavsky To All 30 October 1997

AK>
AK> And what kind of car do you want to see them for?
Well, I don’t know, on my iP150 the Yudin emulator (that’s where it rules) gives both
multicolors and a sound better than Shalaev. Now, if only the screen didn’t flicker so much...
AK> For example, on my branded ZX-Spectrum2+ 128K Shock Megademo
AK> by ESI it’s just amazing (especially the first part), but all the demos
AK> written in ExUSSR are better not to run on it.
But I want to watch everything. For example, in the very useful ZX-Jam there is a graphic menu
in which you choose: you want - Pentagon (and the multicolors are plowing, and the sound again...),
you want - branded.
And the visible modes, by the way, are normal. Who would make him understand at least *.trd,
otherwise with his *.tap he is morally outdated.

From Andrew Garavsky To All 3 November 1997

AG>> And where is this written?
AK>
AK> Yes, this is already clear. It is designed for storing TR-DOS files
AK> in the MS-DOS file system.
And where is the word “converted” in this phrase? And in general, why convert? Let the emulator with MS-DOS read the hobeta screw and write to the virtualTR-DOS drive.
AG>> And why can’t the emulsion itself do this?
AK>
AK> Because it can do without this intermediary, independently
AK> creating TRD (let’s go for the second round ;)
Let’s go! Windows95, for example, can also do without 16M of memory...
