“Super problem of the century” or “Flaw in the Shalaev emulator or something else?”

ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»

From Andrey Kythevich To All 27 September 1997

Hello user All!

There is a floppy disk recorded on speckie. It is read freely by an emulsion that works directly with floppy disks. But Shalaev's emulator does not want to reset it to the screw, the disk writes error. Is it a distortion in my brain or someone’s jokes?

Question number two. There is a file in hobeta format. How many operations do I need
to do in order to finally start the program from it on Shalaev’s emulator?
Isn’t it easier to hang myself right away?

Count-
С:\zcop.exe "program(s)".$b($c) "image name".trd
Well, it's very difficult? ;)))
And if you don’t have zcop.exe, then definitely, prepare a rope...;)

And in general, it feels like Shalaev has his own format :) He doesn’t understand discs from spec or
hoformat, he writes/reads his own, but spec and hobeta don’t understand them.

Hasta la vista.
Tim Kelly.

exactly one - copy the file to the disk image.

AK> Shalaeva? Wouldn't it be easier to hang yourself right away?

That's always welcome :)

Goodbye.

He just understands the format. But that's all. Maybe Shalaev was up to something there?

exactly the opposite :)
zcop cooldisk.trd *.$*
or even *.*, hobet ones will be automatically filtered out

Goodbye.

Try setting the flop in the BIOS not as 1.44, but as 720, that's exactly what works for me
and everything is read and written without problems...

I checked it poorly. This is how we drove the Spec disks into the emulsion.
We take it, write in UKV from 5.25" TR-Dos(Speccy) to 3.5" TR-Dos(HoFormat), and then
from 3.5" straight into Shalaev and drive it.

Maybe there is something wrong with the stumps? On two cars - a bolt :(
And which version of UKV works with thrashers? Can anyone tell me?

Salute, Roman!

It was a day Thurs 02 Oct 1997, it was about 13:16.
Roman Alexandrov talked with Andrew Garavsky about the statement
""Super problem of the century" or "Flaw in the Shalaev emulator or something else?":

AG>> IMHO, hobet files are echoes stagnation.
RA>
RA> Hobet files are the easiest way to transfer a program from spec to
RA> PC and back..
But life teaches: simple is not good...
AG>> The most normal formats were proposed by Lunter - Z80, SNA. If something
AG>> is loading - use z80+dat or just slt.
RA>
RA> Well, maybe... But how can I transfer it from this format to spec?
WHY? In my opinion, we are interested in just the opposite problem. ;)
AG>> If you really want to make an emulator only for Hobeta, then
AG>> please make
AG>> INTERNAL support for this format. For example, who decided
AG>> that hobet files need to be read only from *.trd, *.dsk, *.fdi and
AG>> other perverts? WHAT IS HURTING YOU from reading them DIRECTLY FROM THE SCREW?
RA>
RA> What's stopping you is that most modern programs work with the Tp-Dos disk
RA> not at the file level, but at the track/sector level.
True truth, but that's why it's an EMULATOR to EMULATE. I haven't heard of Specky reading *.z80 from the screw, but Lunter reading them. ;)
RA> IMHOYou are arguing only from the point of view of the PC, but for me,
Undoubtedly. That's what the whole market is about - on real Sinclair there are no
problems at all, and emulators are still written for the PC.
RA> for example, the main thing is to put the programs coming from echo and fae on the BBS
RA> to Sinclairists or transfer it to typdos and take it to natural spec
RA> to friends, t.o. For me, the biggest problem is represented by all sorts of

As for taste and color - go to hell! (c)

Once again we come to the question: who is this echo for, for Sinclairists or
for nostalgic writers?

Have a nice connection.

AK>
AK> Don't go too far, lunter reads _ONLY_ _ONE_ Z80 file.
Hmm? Haven’t you seen R-Type in *.z80 with eight loadable levels? And
they are loading! :)
One - main *.z80, levels - *.dat. The good old Lunter standard.
And in the latest versions, in general, it’s simple - one big *.slt is made.
AK> There can be game files, and this is usually even several.
Well, if the hobet is so desperately needed, then why not organize its support in the emulsion itself? Like: click on F3, select the desired files on the
screw and reset them to the current *.trd.
Click on F2 and do the opposite.
Simple, convenient and suits everyone. Why not? And it’s not at all harmful to provide support for *.z80 - at least to easily and quickly save the results of your work/game
in the emulator.
AG>> Undoubtedly. That's what the whole market is about - on real Sinclair there are no problems at all

Well, of course, I don’t know exactly what’s going on with the FIDO software on Specky, but IMHO >90%
those present read this echo while sitting at the big beautiful keyboard and editor under the strange name GoldEd. ;)
So rather the second IMHO.

Nobody here doesn’t argue - the main thing is that everything is read simply and quickly - with two
keys.
AG>> Well, if the hobet is so desperately needed, then why not organize its support

Let’s not talk about how it reads these floppy disks... Besides, what will it
prevent you from reading them and at the same time being able to read the hobeta files from the
screw?
AK> But It's just that the hobeta was invented much earlier in order toSpectrum
AK> TR-DOS programs are stored in the MS-DOS file system. And it honestly fulfills its purpose

I don’t argue, but why should I use two programs, when simply for purely practical
reasons all this can and should be inserted into one?
AG>> Press F2 and do the opposite.
AK>
AK> IMHO this is not the emulator’s business, to deal with copying ;)
I don’t agree with your IMHO. Who will it hurt? If you want, you will continue
using zcopy or zxtools.

AG>> is not at all harmful - at least to easily and quickly

AK> In general, it would be nice to make support for all formats

Wow. Just look at the zx32 - an abyss of formats. And who does this hurt?
AG>> And now I use emulators, because I’m interested in what
AG>> is going on there. But since now I have such a big and beautiful keyboard,
AG>> why not use it rationally?
AK>
AK> ZCOP rulez ;)
Well, let it be, but I would like to say “Shalaev emul - rulez”. In the meantime, I
can’t...
