Super Spectrum - myths and reality

Get msg, Danil!
19 May 97 20:34 -- Danil Ermakoff told All about Super Spectrum - myths and
reality:
DE> HiResScr! Excuse me, but there have already been attempts (ATM, Pros),
HiResScr slowed them down enormously, but on Sprintere avi-students run at
normal speed (hopefully, not only them :)
DE> you say, what about the graphics processor? And this was the well-known
DE> development of my fellow countryman Dendy+Speccy.
It’s cool that from your fellow countryman’s idea they took (IMHO) a method of overlaying a
Spectrum screen on top of HiRes - apparently with the same bit of flickering.
DE> How many of you have this miracle? And from your friends? Do you know why?
DE> Nobody wants to pay for hardware that is not supported by the appropriate
DE> software.
Well, for Dendy+Speccy - software from both of its components is suitable :))
DE> And to adapt the graphics, this is not for you to pull MODs from PC and Amig.
When demonstrating Sprintera, pictures from tutorials for Adobe
Photoshop 3 and PhotoStyler were used - the whole point was painless twitching
of PC graphics (perhaps it will be easier than tearing out MOD :) And the MS-DOS format is understood
on a par with TR-DOS. But somehow it turns out that to work on Sprintere
you need a PC :((
DE> The authors promise an operating system. Excuse me, but a good
DE> OS takes years of work, a series of versions. Sothat a real alternative to TR
DE> DOS will appear no earlier than by the end of next year (1998) :(
You can’t argue with that. But the OS is for Petersburg, IMHO, not an end in itself. In order not to change anything
especially, it is planned to quickly cook up a small, small bios, and develop everything
else later and load it from Windows.
DE> With the cost of this masterpiece being approx. 200$, I'm sorry, I'll think about it.
Promised 700-800 tr (well, without a screw and a monitor, of course)
DE> In general, the development of such a machine is pure altruism, which has nothing to do with commercial projects :(
It’s hard to say. You never know what will be popular.
A typical example is GS. (but it turned out to be extremely successful).
With warm greetings, Slava.

DE> :( It’s a pity, it’s been five years ago...
That is, are you suggesting that you give it all up immediately?
In principle, yes, but somehow I don’t want to...

DE> about $200, excuse me for thinking about it. For this money you can buy
DE> a better machine, with a well-functioning OS, with a huge amount of software, etc.
DE> In general, the development of such a machine is pure altruism, which has
DE> nothing to do with commercial projects.
Yes, in essence, what we have: a machine compatible with itself at a level
somewhere between XT and 286, without operating systems and an application, despite the fact that you can already buy that same 286 for 130-160 bucks, and use it with a ton of software and no problems with compatibility (or, for special aesthetes, buy an Amiga for the same money)? Who is even capable of shelling out that kind of money for a Sinclair? - only fans,
but most of them have already found their car a long time ago (Pentagon, Scorp, Profi, etc.), besides, they usually also have a PC/Amiga and therefore do not
need such a screwed up Sinclair. And what will some teenager who wants to
join the computer world tell you when asked to buy a toy
(public opinion) computer for that kind of money?
DE> This will not live :(
Alas, it’s a pity...
DE> It’s a pity, about five years ago...
Oh! how thoughts converge ;)
DE> All this, of course, my personal opinion.
Likewise, everything written above should in no way be taken as a
call for the transition to the PC/Amiga, thisjust IMHO on the topic why this computer cannot live, and in this case I will be glad to turn out to be a worthless prophet...

Have a nice connection.

100%
DE> compatible with the same Pentagon or Scorpion? Otherwise,
compatibility will be hardware, i.e. the user chooses which architecture he needs
Pentagon, Scorpov or another and everything can work.
DE> today, not yet connected to Speccy? HDD? COMPORT? And HiResScr! Excuse me,
but
DE> there have already been attempts (ATM, Profi), you say, but what about the graphics processor? And
this
You see, HiResScr on these computers is a complete slowdown, and if I'm not
mistaken
16 color, if not less. And those who have seen 256 color with a palette of 16 million colors,
for them such a screen is the same as a Spectrum one. And in a new computer, the screen with
advanced graphics can be filled much faster than the Spectrum one.
DE> the hardware is not supported by the appropriate software. And to adapt the graphics, this
DE> is not for you to pull MODs from PC and Amig.
And what to adapt to? She's the same!
DE> series of versions. So, a real alternative to TR DOS will appear no earlier than
to
DE> the end of next year (1998) :(
By the end of 1997, I hope it will already read MS DOS disks. Besides, most likely
it
will be BIOS + graphical shell.
DE> With the cost of this masterpiece being about $200, I’m sorry to think about it. For this
DE> money you can buy a better machine, with a well-functioning OS, with a huge
DE> amount of software andetc.
You can, but it will just suck. So, think about what’s better: a
sophisticated
Spec and the manufacturer’s company nearby, or something no longer needed by anyone and discontinued
production.
DE> It won’t live :( It’s a pity, about five years ago...
We must live or we will completely degraded!!!
From Andrew MOA → To All 28 May 1997
DP> Yes, the best, because we have pussies that constantly require an upgrade,
DP> and amigas. Both options are not affordable (those who are available are not sitting
DP> on Speccy) And then the same Spectrum car appears, just made in 1997
DP> using the latest technology. Well, what kind of person do you have to be to miss such a
DP> case.
Of course, an 8-bit computer is better (and therefore more expensive) than a 32-bit one...
DP> There is no software for cool graphics, as you called them. Excuse me, but where do you think it should come from? Will it fall from the sky?
You answered it yourself :)

I strongly agree with you!!!
