Let's take C as an example. Everyone knows that one of its main advantages is
good portability between platforms. It pays off at the high price
that for it any processor costs 2 - 16 rubles. register (main and auxiliary),
memory and stack. Of course, I’m not a big expert in C, but I read about this in the book
D. Hendrix “C language compiler for microcomputers” M. “Radio and Communication”, 1989
Porportability... in addition to the portability of your software, it also gives you access to
someone else’s software, the source codes of which are publicly available.
If we are talking about the optimal compiler for a specific z80 processor,
and moreover for a Spectrum computer, then it must take into account the features of
architecture!
This will be the best optimization! But the price for this is non-portability anywhere and

I'm going to make a one-pass simple compiler of a very simple hybrid
language (a cross between C, PL/M and Pascal :) ) high level, SML, for
"internaluse." At the output, it should give code for the assembler
V.Mednonogova. You will first have to write it in C, but then you can remake
the source code in its own code, as was done with SMALL C.
This will make it easy to move from a cross-version to a resident one for any operating system:
CP/M,TR-DOS,IS-DOS or some new one.

What's the point?
C (not C++) on the Spectrum is not difficult to implement. There are not many operators in it. A
libraries may not be implemented.
