Sprinter-97, impressions!

ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»

From Andrey Mihaylow To All 2 July 1997

Greetings, dear Denis!

Sunday June 22 1997 08:46, Denis Parinov crucified himself in front of All:

Well, I have a test with a large reserve
(A reserve of 52 Mhz will suit you? (immation tester (it))

DP> Well, ask if anyone is interested!
What is the use of such a test when overclocking the processor, the ratio is lost between
command execution speed
(compare how much the execution speed of NOP,JP (HL) and PUSH HL increases)
There is simply a big difference between machine clock and machine cycle...

Get Msg, Andrey!

02 Jul 97 10:43, Andrey Mihaylow reported to Denis Parinov about {Sprinter-97,
impressions!}:

AM> There is no sense in such a test when overclocking the processor, the relationship between
AM> command execution speed is lost

Apparently not (logically things). Although, if we take the company Intel as an example, then there has long been no similarity (in terms of the number of cycles per command execution) between related processors. (And how are demomakers, poor people, suffering? ;)

AM> (compare how much the execution speed of NOP, JP (HL) and PUSH
AM> HL increases)

But it grows proportionally. In addition, programs tied to interrupts
will run at the same speed on a sprinter. (Except for cases when a program/dem
fits into 3-4 interruptions, but will fit into one :) And multicolor/border
effects will shrink to the top :( - so, you can always switch to normal mode

AM> There’s just a big difference between machines with tact and machine cycle...

By the way, I found a sign showing how Z80 commands are divided into cycles, what kind of cycles they are and how many cycles each of them takes. I can compile an OCR and throw it into the echo, but it doesn’t make much sense :(

Warm greetings, Slava!
