Andrew is that you?
...why were you telling me about SPRINTER?
AE> In my opinion, you’re thinking something wrong!
this is an example of comparison. they sell you a device that works like a regular device, but has features that cannot be used due to the lack of any elements that are in the development stage (by the manufacturer), or options are offered for manufacturing these parts to the consumer himself. (meaning
software)
AE> As for freebies - no one has ever freeloaded from us.
The freebie is that the authors of the sprinter release the computer with virtually no
support, in the hope that buyers will immediately run to write the best
steering ones programs... This is a freebie.
Good Luck...
... MS-DOS: if you believe in a flat Earth, this is the OS for you.

MR> The freebie is that the authors of the sprinter release the computer with virtually no

But what about everything once was released?
And there are people who write for SPRINTEPA and are not going to
slow down on this.
All the best!
From Max Romanoff → To All 9 January 1998
AE> Yes, the development has already been completed (for this model)
again, you misunderstood. I don't mean hardware, but software. At this
moment - a bastard.
AE> But how was everything ever released?
aha!!! This is where you came in :)))
Spectrum would not have become so widespread in our country if
had not been:
a. easy to repeat on Soviet email. base
b. had a large number of different programs
c. didn’t need expensive equipment for work (cassette recorder
and TV)...
That’s why Atari, C=64, MSX didn’t become popular among us... They simply
could not be repeated... and the purchased ones were quite expensive.
And at one time we made PK-86, Orion-128... The last one even
was being finalized - its percentage on the Z80 changed, and the programs migrated from
Sinclair to it, with minor changes...
The Spectrum has always been good because with a minimum of costs, you get
THE MAXIMUM of everything. At the moment, the entire
Spectrum software can work on the Sprinter, which, of course, does not use a single
opportunity from the bells and whistles... (for which you pay money)...
AE> And there are people who write for the SPRINTER and are not going to
AE> slow down on this.
And I don’t argue that it’s always on There were
enthusiasts on various one-day computers. Only usually they did it for the sake of interest, but in this
case, apparently, it will be for the sake of profit.
Because. hopingthat without fish and meat - fish... i.e. The authors
hope that people will abandon their Spectrums and rush to buy
sprinters, for the sake of having bells and whistles... + will buy their programs,
because There are no other alternatives. Those. whoever is first gets more.
You can dream about quality, because... In this case, the laws of the market apply - the main thing is not good, but the fastest. (what we see every
day)... Yes, who can know how 'good' it should be on
a completely unknown machine?
On a simple Spectrum here, things have long been going not for speed, but for quality. Those. no one will make another boot, knowing in advance that it will be a mediocre repetition of some other people's
ideas..
p.s. Is the idea clear? What should have been done was not COMP, but AXEL!
Good Luck...
... An error? Impossible! My modem is error correcting.

You don’t need to say if you don’t know, Max. TURBO mode is already in use. Already
extended RAM is used, like RAM-Disk, and not only in TR-DOS, but also in IS-DOS.
Working with MS-DOS 1.44Mb disks is already used. Already using a hard drive. It's funny to talk about IBM-keyboard. There is no other one in Sprinter.
What kind of bells and whistles were not used? Extended screen? Used. The first version of a text editor for the extended 80-character mode has already been written.

You see, not everyone needs to work with texts exactly like this. If you
came to the echo to say that you need this, and Sprinter cannot do it

of course understand that the more convenient, the better, but the computer you named will
cost an exorbitant price + an expensive printer, and as a result, it is not a home machine, which

Sprinter is a new Spectrum-compatible computer, developed
on the basis of new large programmable logic chips.
The main focus during development was to achieve maximum
compatibility, maximum new features and minimum price.
And that's what it worked.
============================================================================
Computer parameters.
1. Processor Z84C15 - fully compatible in the command system with the Z80.
Frequency 21MHz in TURBO mode and 3.5MHz in normal mode.
2. RAM - 4Mb. Page addressing. Each 16-kilobyte window
of the processor address space can accommodate any of the 256 pages of RAM.
3. Video RAM - 256k (512k).
The computer has five video modes.
1. Standard ZX-Spectrum (ZX-40). The usual symbol in the ZX-Spectrum standard is displayed in the familiar place with the corresponding
mode - 8 bytes of form +
1 byte of attributes.
2. ZX-80 mode. Each familiar place contains two horizontally compressed symbols of the ZX-Spectrum standard. The pixels of these characters
are output at a frequency of 14 MHz, which leads to an increase in the number of characters
displayed per line of the screen to 80.
3. Graphics mode G256-8. A familiar place is a graphic image of 8x8 dots, each of which can have any of 256
colors,selectable from a palette (16 million colors).
4. Graphic mode G16-16. High resolution mode. In each familiar place, there are 16 pixels horizontally, 16 colors per pixel.
Vertical, the number of pixels remains equal to 8 and can be increased to
16 only by using the INTERLACE mode.
5. Graphics mode G16-8. In fact, this is a sub-mode of G256-7, in which the number of colors per pixel is reduced in order to reduce the amount of
video information, which can be useful in certain situations.
These modes are set separately in 8x8 pixel squares, which
allows you to organize windows on the screen with different modes and resolutions.
Standard screen Spectrum is organized in the ZX-40 mode.
The organization of the screen is carried out by BIOS functions and when turned on in the Spectrum mode, a standard Spectrum screen is formed.
About colors.
The color palette of the screen is brought to the maximum reasonable limit. Each color is selected from a set of 16 million colors
determined by the palette's RAM data. (24 bits/color.)
4. 3.5" disk drive, work with 720Kb/1.44Mb disks.
5. IBM-AT keyboard with controller. (ZX-Spectrum keyboard emulation /
direct scan code input. )
6. IDE controller hard drive.
7. MS-Mouse controller.
8. Buffered bus in ISA-8 standard(IBM)
Port Mapping.
Sprinter has its own port mapping scheme.
The first part is related to the internal ports of the Z84C15. It is unchanging and
constant. (Which does not fit somewhat into the rest of the scheme.)
The second part of the distribution has a flexible programmable structure. Information about the distribution of ports is in RAM, this allows you to change the port configuration without much difficulty. Those. The computer may have the architecture
Pentagon-128, Scorpion-256, etc.
9. Accelerator of RAM operations.
In the mode with new graphics capabilities, a high
data exchange rate in RAM is required. For this purpose, an accelerator of operations with
RAM was developed. It allows you to quickly transfer data to RAM and quickly
fill a data area with one value.
Disk system.
What should DOS be like?
For the ZX-Spectrum there are two options. TR-DOS and iS-DOS. The first is predicted to die soon. The second one has not received proper
development at the moment.
A different option was chosen in our computer. The MS-DOS system has been around for a long time. She fully deserves attention and respect.
A question arises. How to combine incompatible things? How much pain does translating information from TR-DOS to MS-DOS cause?
The Sprinter computer takes a step towards a similar combination.A certain concept of this combination was adopted and an attempt was made to work with the MS-DOS file system. TR-DOS ROM introduced additional functions
reading/writing disks of the MS-DOS system.
What is this concept?
1. what cannot be changed in MS-DOS.
2. and what, except for the information in the files.
If you add to these two points the experience of working with RAM-Disks in the TR-DOS system and think carefully, a wonderful option
combining systems.
It removes the 1Mb limitation from disks, allows you to seamlessly
work with MS-DOS disks and at the same time maintains almost complete
compatibility with TR-DOS.
What is it?
MS-DOS FILE = TR-DOS DISK !!!
and any MS-DOS disk can have several files, the size of which determines the size of the disk TR-DOS. The problem associated with the difference
of sectors, with writing and reading TR-DOS files can be solved with one simple
solution. The MS-DOS file is read into the computer's RAM, where it forms a separate
RAM-Disk in the TR-DOS system. After loading the file, the program can freely
access this RAM-Disk, receive data from it, and write back
changed data. At the end of the work, the RAM-Disk is written, if necessary, in
the form of a file to the MS-DOS disk.
and this does not prevent the functions of direct work with
MS-DOS files in the future.Writing/reading regular files from BASIC, DATA, CODE.. And all this
with MS-DOS disks!
RAM-Disks.
Everything has been working on the Peters-256 machine for a long time. All functions called through points 3D00h, 3D03h, 3D13h work.
Sprinter has introduced a variety of RAM-Disks, based on the new distribution of RAM. The ability to connect RAM-Disks to A:, B:, C:
and D: has been introduced. RAM-Disk in Sprinter can have a capacity of more than 1Mb. TR-DOS will see
only the first megabyte, and the programs located in it will have full access to
the entire RAM-Disk space. This shifts the limitation on the length of the MS-DOS file to
the limit of 3.5Mb, which is determined by the amount of main RAM.
IBM-AT keyboard.
Sprinter-97 is designed to connect only an IBM-AT keyboard.
All hardware complications have gone into programmable logic. To connect
a keyboard, just plug it into the connector on the board.
Compatibility is almost complete. The scheme allows you to set
the desired configuration for each program. It is also possible to load
BASIC128+BASIC48+TR-DOS into RAM pages and turn them on as ROM, which allows
to achieve work with capricious programs that require specific versions of firmware
ROM.
Prospects.
Sprinter is built on based on programmable logic and has a fundamentally different structure than allexisting machines. The circuit is based on a FLEX logic chip from the American company ALTERA. When you turn on the machine
this microcircuit is programmed from ROM. After this, the machine
begins to work like a regular computer of the ZX-Spectrum type.
The 'hardwired' circuit in the PLM can be changed at any time. (Reprogramming time is less than one second, and the number of cycles is infinite, since the basis of storage elements in FLEX technology are RAM cells, not ROM.) Such a 'flashing' of the circuit allows you to completely change the architecture of the computer. Convert it, for example, from Pentagon-128 to ATM or Profi.
Perhaps I accidentally missed something, because... I wrote in the morning after a sleepless night. Ask if something is not clear or interesting.
And suggest what else you would like! PLM allows you to change hardware without changing the board.

All this pleasure is packaged in a MiniTower case, with a
3.5-inch drive, equipped with an IBM keyboard, MS mouse costs 990
new rubles.
A separate board in all controllers - 590 rubles.
