From Andrew Savichev To All 11 January 1998

Hi, All!
Hello, Max!

I talked and will talk about Spectrum-line computers (others just
don’t interest me, maybe it’s a disease ;), but a disease nice - spectromania :) )
So let's discuss, if you want, just such computers...

Who can argue with that? But there are single-chip chips and programmable logic...
in this case, this is mainly the cost of developing a control program.
This is inaccessible to many only because of the expensive tools for
development on them (hundreds, if not thousands of dollars) and a very small modern
sales market... although Sergei Novikov disputes my estimate of the number of
spectrumists, but roughly these are a few thousand users, not dozens!!!
There are even fewer potential buyers of hardware. Therefore, I am amazed at the feat of
Peters, to be honest!

In my opinion, the heyday of the Spectrum in Russia was 90-96, but now is the most
interesting period in its history... I feel sorry for those who don’t understand this ;)

Televisions are always more expensive, if only because of: built-in acoustics and a radio channel
now it’s also fashionable to embed the Internet (computer),
but why are we going off-topic here ;)

software.
Uff!...I already wrote that it makes no sense for users to buy a Sprinter right now...software makers can take risks, for them here “...the field is wide, know
work, don’t be lazy...” But they also need “starting system software”, “custom
software”, listed in my previous one message...the Peters must UNCONDITIONALLY PROVIDEas well as a GOOD DESCRIPTION OF ARCHITECTURE. Without this, NOBODY will buy “bare metal”, _in vain they rely on Spectrum compatibility and turbocharging_,
everyone will lick their lips, drool, walk around them in circles, put
their hand in their pocket for money, but not buy! As soon as there is "SSS" - that's when they will attack with a cry of "BANZAI!" ;) ... unless it stretches so far that Zonov or someone else competes with them in this class of Spectrum hardware.
>

But, you know, it’s also somehow not good to keep silent about the “locomotive of history.”

If I had the opportunity, I would collect Spectrums of all modifications
that have just been released in the world ;)... so these words of mine should
be taken with humor ;)

Yeah...and I already wrote about this too...there are those among us who are with us only
because of their skinny wallets, but I don’t consider myself one of those... just 8 rubles. computers
are my student youth, and Spectrum, as the very, very, very... in one
word, my throat feels sore and tears well up ;)
In general: “Spectrum is love!”

You didn’t understand...it was Sir Clive who launched it into orbit, putting everything he had into it, being years ahead of Atari and Amiga... and it exists, and very successfully
and now, judging by the subscribers of c.s.s

Others will simply disappear from sale (since must die requires 8M, as a
minimum), and Peters will support 8Meg, where can they go? :)

It all depends on whether all software makers think like you...

Break Tamagotchis or whatever they are called. If not in the markets :) (just kidding) see in the underground
passage near the Olympic sports complex in Moscow, in the tent - there are countless of them there,
including those with a large screen (but black and brown), and the colored ones, I have no doubt
will not keep you waiting long, since this rubbish is spreading like AIDS :)

From Max Romanoff To All 12 January 1998

Andrew is that you?
...why did you tell Everyone about Sprinter (2Max Romanoff)?

AS> I spoke and will talk about Spectrum-line computers (others
AS> simply don’t interest me, maybe it’s a disease ;), but the disease is pleasant -
AS> spectromania :)) So let’s discuss, if you want, these are exactly the kind of
AS> computers...

And we are discussing them. What I'm saying is that on an 8-bit processor it is impossible
to make a full-fledged, developing axis. A spec as a whole, once made
cannot be radically changed without losing full
compatibility... Otherwise it is not a spec.

The spec should be small and cheap for small things.

AS> Who would argue with that? But there are single-chips and programmable
AS> logic... in this case it is mainly the cost of developing a control
AS> program. This is inaccessible to many only because it is expensive

I hope you know what single chips and programmable
logic are? If it doesn’t need single-crystal chips in terms of spectrum, then
on soft`n`hard for developing and flashing logic you need a lot of money.
Besides, with small volumes it’s not cost-effective, usually such
things are used only for development master prototypes, maybe
several models, and if serial production
is planned in the future, then it makes sense to make a custom-made microcosm. It will be cheaper
with a largevolume.

AS> of tools for development on them (hundreds, if not thousands of bucks) and
AS> a very small modern sales market... at least Sergei Novikov

specifically.

AS> disputes my estimate of the number of spektrumists, but roughly these are just a few
AS> thousands of users, not tens!!!

Exactly.

AS> There are even fewer potential buyers of hardware. That's why I'm amazed

potential buyers of hardware are all current owners
(active) of Spectrums. There are just a few potential buyers of NEW components
...

AS> Peters’ feat, to be honest!

Yes, you can be amazed:

a. nonsense
b. courage
c. arrogance
etc. etc.

(no offense to anyone)

AS> In my opinion, the heyday of the Spectrum in Russia was 90-96, but now is the most
AS> interesting period in its history... I feel sorry for those who don’t understand this
AS> ;)

We are in our heyday came during sunset in the west...

AS> TVs are always more expensive! at least because of: built-in acoustics and radio channel,
AS> and now it’s also fashionable to build in the Internet (computer),

Monitors are more expensive. Wake up. Where did you see Moni 21` for 1,500 rubles?
$1,500 - maybe. ;)

AS> Uff!...I already wrote that it makes no sense for users to buy a Sprinter
AS> now...software makers can take risks, for them there is “...the field

AS> message... which the Peters should UNCONDITIONALLY PROVIDE as well as a GOOD
AS> DESCRIPTION OF ARCHITECTURE. Without this, NOBODY will buy “bare metal”, _in vain

Moreover, they should support the developers by giving them computers, which
will be the least they can do...

AS> But also, you understand, to silence the “locomotive of history” somehow
AS> not good.

What does the story have to do with this?

AS> If I had the opportunity, I would collect Spectrums of all modifications
AS> that have just been released in the world ;)... so these words of mine
AS> should have been taken with humor ;)

lana - ;)

AS> In general: " Spectrum is love!"

a sprinter is no longer a Spectrum... (damn, Spectrum should be
cheap!)

AS> You don’t understand... it was Sir Clive who launched it into orbit, putting everything
AS> into it that he had, ahead of Atari and Amiga by years... but it exists, and very
AS> safely and now, judging by subscribers c.s.s

Well, maybe he was only ahead of Atari. And that is doubtful. There was no graphic
operating system on it, nor a sophisticated chipset for those times. (no need to repeat words from famous books - they are not always
correct ;)))

AS> Others will simply disappear from sale(since must die requires 8M, as
AS> minimum), and the Peters will provide support for 8 MEG, where should they go? :)

yeah, is it necessary? For the sake of a huge RAM disk... (btw, will parity
be implemented? ;) and several copiers...

AS> It all depends on whether all software makers think like you...

It has been noticed that new things are very reluctant to go to the masses, and only
having received sufficient distribution, for them
decent software is starting to appear. (I’m judging by myself).

AS> You’re a champion of saving people’s money ;)

What do you mean?!

AS> Break Tamagotchis or whatever they are called. If not on the markets :) (joke) see
AS> underpass near the Olympic sports complex in Moscow, in the tent -
AS> there are countless of them, including those with a large screen (but black-brown), and
AS> color ones, I have no doubt, they won’t keep you waiting long, because this
AS> rubbish is spreading like AIDS :)

But we need a solid screen. A not segmented.

Good Luck...
