From Andrew Savichev → To All 20 February 1998
Hi, All!
Hello, Evgeniy!
>AS> Apparently you are not carefully reading the bazaar on the topic of SOS, since you did not
>AS> understand my position.
> Yours? I don’t really understand, because I don’t see it yet. Now I only see
how Novikov, with a captivating mood, calls on everyone to “buy
our elephants,” and you help him with this...
It is not so important from whom the idea comes, unless the author himself in the future
will not implement it himself, therefore it is possible and necessary to separate ideas from their
authors. Sergei proposed, as it seems to me, a very interesting idea, or rather
returned our attention to the old ones, not brought to their logical conclusion,
not the point.
What was important to me in his position were two things:
1) the person realized (and points this out to everyone) the danger of stopping the supply
of software, press, etc. on the network.
2) a network spektrumist should not scour the internet for software non-virtual
points, especially if it is virtual. A virtual would buy a CD with Spectrum
software, but they are not on sale! :(
But the methods of solving these problems, from his point of view the most realistic,
seemed unacceptable to me!
You can’t take money from people in advance!
You can’t take money from people as a “pig in a poke”!
You can’t frighten those who don’t pay with the torments of hell that they will experience
(this is why I don’t like churches, the state andetc., Christ himself was
much kinder, but all the churches are evil!!! )
You cannot establish an infrastructure in the form of an “underground center”!
Everything related to money must be legalized, otherwise either bandits
or the police will come - and most likely first one - then the other ;)
Here are four “impossibles”, because of which our positions will never converge.
> Very good. This is exactly what interested me. I'm glad that you and I agree on this issue. But... But let me ask why the hell Novikov
>say “we don’t need this democracy,”
He justified this by the need for an “iron hand”, there are only a few ways
to organize a human crowd - “autocracy” is one of them. For people who are weak in spirit, mind and
body - this is the most acceptable option (so that the "iron hand" knocks out all the benefits for them from the healthy, smart and strong;)). Remember: “who was nothing will become everything,” but all this is a terrible off-topic. But Sergey is at his best! :)
>meaning that you don’t need any
>“papers”? After all, what confused me about your position was precisely this support
of Mr. Novikov.
Yes, I support him, and not straightforward traders who see in this
venture only an encroachment on part of their profits (still, 700 people -
quite a “tidbit” ;)).
Even my proposalThey themselves “let it pass by” to become network traders.
They are smart people and understood that I want the benefit first of all for USERS and
AUTHORS and only then for TRADERS.
In their list of interests, IMHO, everything is the other way around: TRADER-AUTHOR-USER.
But with this “network revolution” I am not encroaching on the whole market?
As if it were not so, they realized that 700 people could distribute N-software for free
to the remaining 4,000.
One thing they DID NOT get it:
------------
N-software does not displace regular commercial software!
---------------------------------------------
I specifically introduced a limit on the cost of a general license at $ 1000!
After all, for many people for authors, such a price will be clearly insufficient!
As a result, in their market segment there will be only SUPER-AUTHORS!!!
or our authors but with SUPER PRODUCTS!!!
So what’s bad about this, gentlemen traders?
The fact that you will have to fork out a lot?
And what’s bad is that by becoming network traders, you can have
additional earnings due to the expanded contingent of authors and
the provoking ease of online shopping (this is a well-known fact: the
easier it is to buy a product of better quality, the more people will buy it!)
>AS> And if all this seems nonsense to you, then why
>[.....]
>AS> whether Moscow is the center of SpectrumWorld or not.
> Eh,you didn’t understand anything... :(((((I just treat this project
>as an author who WANTS to participate in it, but still doesn’t see WHY he
>needs all this... Because so far he sees only the “shadow of the new MMM” and the “ghost
of communism”.
There are AUTHORS and authors! :)
Here V.Mednonogov, and obviously you don’t need all this!
Well, great, everyone already knows you and everyone buys you. But no matter how brilliant
you are, perhaps somewhere in a distant and small town in Russia there lives an
author who will be
very interested in the opportunities provided by online trading. And in the centers there are beginning groups for whom this
market is a very good way to express themselves and improve their skills. rating.
It is possible that luminaries, in some cases, will take advantage of its capabilities,
but for this it is necessary to create an infrastructure!
>AS> As for which option
>AS> will go: Novikov or Savichev...there were 20 letters in support of Sergei, and only 1 person spoke well about
>AS> my project ;(
> After this message, about your project I respond well too. (Sorry, I didn’t know that you and Novikov had such differences. Once again - sorry)... So what does Sergei have to do with it? ;) After all, if someone else had been in his place, with the same ideas, I would have opposed them in the same way!are equal and can equally exchange ideas and opinions.
The main thing is that they contain “rational grains of truth” :)
> Never mind, you and I will make an “anecta” like Novikov’s. Just like him, we will fabricate it in such a way that it would be impossible to answer “no.” ;)))
No, I trust Sergei, this man is incapable of fraud!
And I respect All too much to somehow “put pressure on their brains,” they wouldn’t accept it -
that means there’s no need and it’s time to “curtail the market.”
With respect, Andrey Savichev/CGS

It’s probably scary for traders. At this stage, they sell software mainly to people not connected to the network, of whom the majority. And networkers download software from each other for free if it is not protected, and if it is protected, then they still don’t buy it, but wait for the unprotected version passing through the network. Another thing is that a trader
pirate will be able to take software from the network, at best, by depositing the amount of money of an ordinary
buyer, and at worst, nothing at all. At the same time, he can
continue to sell this software, and as a result, all the profits from selling
software to non-networkers will go to him and not to the author. Since there is still no
decent protection for software that is distributed to children, this will in no way
help official traders, it will help networkers just a little bit (only a few will sign up, but everyone will receive the software), and it will _very_ greatly support
pirate traders.

We missed it because at the moment it is not clear how this will be done.

Are you too worried about the abundance of Spectrum snapshots on Western servers?
To sell this to the “naturals”, it is necessary to bring the snapshots into a more familiar
form. Now imagine UFO2 in the form of a tape - would you sell such a version? Would you like to take a break? Can you imagine a hacker who would prefer to disk the tape version, protected by today's standards, instead of breaking the “normal” one? (What awaits him in the networks after this, I don’t

At best it will turn out this way, but at worst it will turn out differently. More than a month has already passed, and the disk version of CV is also not cracked, which indicates strong protection
and a large number of segments on the disk. If the protection is simpler, and
there are fewer files and overlays, then it will not be difficult to break the tap under the simulator.
The disk still provides much stronger protection capabilities. Some such
tap carries protection against transfer to a live spec, but does not have any protection against
copying “from simulator to simulator”. The opportunity to get it for free will work. As a result, for real spektrumists
the project is of no benefit, but forvirtual, another version of a freebie that will in no way serve the Spectrum.

Come on. I'm not talking about simple cases. Agree that on emulators
it is much
easier to set up such a mess from hundreds of files and, in general, to do THIS kind of thing than on a real Specky with a disk drive.
AL> The disk still provides much stronger protection capabilities.
All possibilities have already reached their maximum and have been studied by hackers. But emulator
protection is something new, this is where everything is just beginning. Remember the first
disk protections - zero length, other perversions with the system track, and yet
it all worked!

Here you can also think... You can provide binding to the machine, electronic
keys, password protection.
AL> The opportunity to get it for free will work. As a result, for
AL> real spektrumists the project is of no benefit,
The benefit is not in supplying reals with software, everything is in order here, supply
exists - there is no demand, they just don’t want to buy it. The benefit is to support authors and keep them on the platform. You need to think more globally, Alex, you can do it :) And don’t forget that in addition to the distribution of secure network
software, we are also talking about freeware.
AL> and for virtuals, another version of a freebie,
The funny thing is that virtuals are constantly offering money, judging by the
conversations in this echo, reals are more concerned about how they will get their they didn’t push ten
bullshit ;)
AL> which in no way will serve the Spectrum.
I’ll now say a terrible, seditious, vulgar thing - the number of emulators is growing, and
the number of reals is falling... Moreover, the speed is already frightening. Any
option will serve the Spectrum. It’s better, of course, if there are two of them (Savichev/Novikov and
Malkov’s options), since the first one, you’re right here, in the case of protected online trading,
real freeloaders ;) will not bring any benefit (which is what we’re actually trying to achieve).
From Alex Letaev → To All 23 February 1998
DG> Here you can also think... You can provide binding to the machine,
DG> electronic keys, password protection.
Binding to the machine, this requires a special version of the simulator, for example with
a certain number read on request from a certain port, but what
prevents you from copying the simulator. And there are no such versions of the simulator yet.
DG> The benefit is not in supplying reals with software, everything is fine here, the supply
DG> exists - there is no demand, they just don’t want to buy it.
The fact of the matter is that there’s nothing wrong here. Even between traders there is no
clear connection. And due to the fact that, for example, there are 30 traders who bought software 3 from the author, the price of the software is higher for the end user. And of course
they don’t want to buy it at the distributor’s price, if the pirate’s
price is less, and the author is also not able to get a decent amount
of money from 3 traders. This is exactly what Malkov's project is designed to provide a network and
fast access to information.
DG> The benefit is to support authors, keeping them on the platform. You need to think more globally

And what’s bad if Malkov’s project works, and according to this project for a bunch
there will be a sale of software for verticals? And freeware is not like thatit won't hurt. And instead of trying to promote this project in an echo, we don’t even see anyone’s proposals. :-((((

How will this “membership in SOS” differ from my current situation? Only by the fact that the other participants will give me "gritengs"? I lived without them, and I will continue to live. What else? The fact that my programs on the network will not be “clamped”?
This is yes, since my main direction of “sales” is the network (although, of course
there is also “exchange of parcels”). But (maybe I just have this kind of nature?), I somehow don’t want to participate in a project that bears a clear imprint of totalitarianism and “he who is not with us is against us”... Reviews about my program and

This is a moot point... Why waste energy. And overload
doesn’t do anyone any good.
EM> Everything needs to be thought out, that’s for sure. So that authors with bare (sorry) asses don't walk past fat pirates. After all, a year of work can be wiped out in
EM> two or three weeks!
Pirates need to be put under pressure. Not hackers - you can negotiate with them.
EM> Have you seen lists of traders in at least one magazine? Who should people
EM> contact? Or should we look for them?
They are not hiding. You take the publication and look at the contact information... then
you take the next edition...
EM> Do we really need it, or the authors who
EM> want to get paid for their work?
You have one problem - when you need to do something, you start to think who needs it
more. This is how, in these thoughts, over the years, progress has been moving on the Spectrum.
EM> Exactly! Information support is needed! But not here, here we ourselves
EM> will write off :) We need to give information to non-networkers!
So you first decide on the information - what to publish, what
to call for and with what interest.

SI> own PC, but I have constant access to it. But to the detriment of
SI> I don’t break anyone!
Oh...
SI> It’s okay for everyone...
No, in Word and Deed it’s done quite simply - the program produces a code unique
only to your machine, you tell it to the author or his representative, and for
an amount you receive a key generated using your code, and, of course,
suitable only to register your version of the program.
SI> Guys, Malkov is a patriot of Speck, and whoever attacks him will
SI> have to deal with me too!!!! Zh8-((((((
Wow, how do you know me so well? Maybe I’m the same as Mighty
Hacker? But thanks anyway for the support!
SI> Guys, I want this too! Who needs to pay how much, and what else
SI> is needed for this?
Pay - the author or his representative :) But you need to make online versions,
announce, and receive money. Without any intermediaries.
EM>> - then how? That’s why we want to publish lists of traders

EM>> send soap to everyone? If it’s in the echo, then the binding is useless, here you need

DG> You already guessed it yourself :) The program is in the echo, the keys are like soap. I don’t know how it is

DG> there are no problems, and with ZXNet there will be no problems, I think. And there will be some terribly
DG> secure software, I think...
Of course. Just don’t build any projects. Everything is much simpler: the author _himself_ is able to make an online version (in extreme cases, he will ask
someone), and _himself_ is able to receive money! He doesn’t need to feed anyone
(unless the program will be very popular :)
DG> Well, at least you understand :) Imagine a real person who received a similar request
DG> :) Moreover, the result could be, for example, loading sprites into the ROM
DG> trdos.
Whatever, there are a lot of possibilities!
DG> I respect you too, that’s why Let's keep our apologies to ourselves. You didn't
DG> understand the network trading project, I didn't understand what was incomprehensible here ;)
Ok. Glad. Just lose a little steam, otherwise it’s not a discussion of projects, but a fight without
rules... :)

It’s a bit difficult for spektrumists at 1800 baud, although they gave up long ago due to

Or you go to astalavista.box.sk (or in $CRACK$), ask for a register, you receive
it and enter the key there, receiving a code in return. (this means that the example is unsuccessful).

Not as bad as you think! Version 7.50 has not yet been broken, and it will soon be two years old! This is not two months for you...
TY> Or you go to astalavista.box.sk (or in $CRACK$), ask for a register,

Okay, then what can you say about T-Mail? Are there many registrations? Anything can be broken, it’s just a matter of time! And do you think someone would be very interested in making a recorder for some Spectrum emulator? And even to a specific program?
From Tim Yunaev → To All 12 March 1998
TY>> register, you get it and enter the key there, receiving the code

EM> Okay, then what can you say about T-Mail?
An even better example. Go to ftpsearch, do a search by filename (but I forgot what the archive is called). You will receive about 20 links.
EM>A lot of registration sites?
There is a registration site somewhere in the wilds of geosities. On IRC (either #CRACK or #HACK)
they told me the way.
And there are tons of keys on the Internet.
EM> Everything can be broken, it’s just a matter of time!
That’s right. And the thing is that most software can be broken in a _very_
short time (2-3 days maximum).
EM> And do you think someone would be very interested in making a recorder for
EM> some kind of Spectrum emulator? And even for a specific program?
Why not? If the program is popular?
