SOS-project (save our soul's?)

ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»

From Andrew Savichev To All 6 February 1998

Hi, All!
Hello, Sergey!

Perhaps I’ll start from the end ;)
>
>In critical times for the country, a strong, almost
dictatorial hand is always required to lead the country out of the crisis.
These are stories for non-competitive (read inferior) peoples.
Then don’t forget to lower the “iron curtain” and arrange regular
pogroms in pussy shops ;) (if the real bandits who control these
shops allow it ;) ) A hothead in solving GLOBAL problems is a bad
advisor, IMHO.

>The same thing here. Let us
continue to advocate for freedom of expression (read pandering to freeloaders and
pirates) - Spectrum will continue to die.
But don’t “distort”, I am an opponent of such methods in discussions!
And there is no need to look for “enemies of the Spectrum”, I care about its welfare no less than you!
Let us then, before recommending a solution to problems, let us define themselves
problems, o'k?
That everything in this world is interconnected, I hope you won’t dispute?
Great.
Why are users leaving the Spectrum, and most importantly, why aren’t new ones coming?
(I’m not going to develop this topic here, it’s not that simple, right?)
I understand you so that it’s all 1) in the software (or rather in its absence);
2) in pirates...?
I would add 3) and maybe I would put this “third” in first place.
And thisthe third is this: this is the “ancestral mark of Spectrum”, an uncontrollable desire for freebies!!!
This is exactly what you put into the foundation of your project. Those. you are going to deceive the freeloaders with a cunning trick :)
Sergey, this is a “childish” trick ;)
And you, for YOUR individual project, will not collect 1000x10x6=60,000 new - mark
my words.
It’s easier for Slava to collect 500x20= 10,000 for any OWN new project.
This is the only person now to whom people will give money FIRST!
(Even if they disappear (pah-pah-pah of course), I would not grieve.
I would give him 100, but I’m not sure that hundreds of other spektrumists would follow my personal example.)
Who else will people NOW entrust such money FORWARD - I just don’t know.
He should at least to know that this is some kind of real organization, moreover, it does not waste the collected money to pay its employees, i.e. preferably
public (the same desire for freebies ;)).
I offered smaller contributions, based on the fact that she would take on the labor of
coordinators! Those. will help in establishing civilized trade (possibly network trade), releasing CDs, supporting progressive trends in the development of hardware, providing connections with the big press, etc.
That is: you didn’t get it!!!
30 rub. per year from each _not for the purchase of games_
(games and other things that he needs, let everyone buy for himself, alsoand you won’t keep any freeware on your flops (screw), CD is another matter ;) ), but only
for the development and support of projects that will ensure the survival of the Spectrum.
Let the authors of these projects themselves attract additional sources
of financing, SpectrumUnion should only provide them with all possible support
- and for this it must be a real public organization, and not
an underground network center ;)
In general, you don’t have to answer this letter, I understand your position.
You reject everything that goes beyond the “underground”. But to give money to
“underground centers” - personally, I’m not a character of Ilf and Petrov, but others, of course
let them decide.

>Users will continue to leave due to the lack of
>new
... not only!

>, the authors will not release this new thing due to the lack of users.
It means they love Spectrum badly! And why should this be the only thing in their lives? This right must be EARNED! When did Gorky start to live from fees? Mayakovsky? And now CAPITALISM is around! and capitalism doesn’t CARE about “folk art”, it doesn’t throw “wooden” money into the market, but “green” money. You give a product “AT THE LEVEL” - you get money!
I myself am an opponent of this CAPITALISM - but who is interested in this besides myself?

>In one word - SOS is the only way out. Not yetit’s too late.
If you don’t give alternative paths, you can drive yourself and people into depression
if the “only” path fails.
In fact, as Sartre teaches, there is always a way out.
“When the food and water run out, the cockroaches will leave” - this is what Eastern wisdom says.
Spectrum superfans are not going anywhere!

>
>╫All: What do you think? Isn’t it a pity to spend 10 pieces a month?
It’s a pity to throw away $10! ( 10x6)
It’s better to use this money to buy a couple of cool CDs made by the Spectrum
“scene”, with the support of business Spectrumists!
Or invest it in a realistically feasible, detailed project
that does not depend on random factors (hit by bandits, etc.)

A GLOBAL problem is an unsolvable problem?

And by the way, these questions are key.

And in the inability to fully implement the software necessary for today
due to a rigidly installed graphics system, lack of memory and
computing
resources, lack of standardization for connecting additional equipment
(modem, hard drive, sound card), fundamental lack of network
opportunities (I'm talking about a local network) and others.

Unfortunately, the “uncontrollable desire"freebies" is a generic mark of everything ex-ussr and
has no direct relation to the Spectrum - this applies to PCs, and travel on the subway,
and
pay phones and much more.

How much easier do you imagine? look like
an organization collecting money and how will it be done? Plus taxes?
Plus a “roof”? What will be left of all this?

Acceptable. Then what difference will there be between those who pay these same 30 rubles and those who do not pay them? What will those who pay them have, other than inner
pride and the ability to beat their fists in the chest?

Moreover, writing programs just to support your favorite computer, but in the
lack of interest is stupid, IMHO. And blaming someone for stopping playing Iron Man on ZX and playing Carmageddon is also stupid. It’s stupid to stay on your favorite
computer just out of devotion, if it’s more interesting to work on another.

Thank you for your trust, but I don’t take money for things that haven’t been done.

Of course, I would like to “live under communism”, as SN suggests here, but:
a) it smells like equalization - it’s very difficult to determine who should “pay” how much
for an unfinished project;
b) as in of any public organization, 50% of the funds collected will go to the needs of its members, and 50% - to those who are at the helm. As they say: “whoever protects something, has it” :) If you really want to start raising funds, then it’s better
FanTops to be organized every month for 30 rubles per entry (in Moscow this is ten loaves of bread :))

Why not done? The author sends it for review to the “headquarters” - there it is tested and
correlated with the amount requested by the author.

That’s why you need to recruit honest people. So far, only AS is in mind ;)

20 rubles. 30 - for those who did not want to register.

Well, it’s not that bad. Considering that a year and a half before (95 -
1st half of 96) it decreased by 3 times.

And there is absolutely no point - a lot of time is wasted (various kinds of demos
are not considered programs).

This is all logical, but how beautiful it sounds! And how many slogans you can
make!

:)))))))))))))))
