ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»

From 500:812/10.00 To All 4 February 1998

Greetings to you,
oh venerable All

Here in our network, SPBZXNET, a
letter has appeared, in my opinion very interesting:

==============================================================
>> area | HARDWARE.ZX
>> from | Dmitry Lomov
>> to | Kirill Chubenko & ALL
>> subj | Scorp and Kai
>> date | 01-02-98
>> time | 01:40

>> Hi, Kirill & ALL!

>> KC> Dim, anything that will improve the performance of the spec at least
>> KC> to some extent should be implemented
>> KC> unless of course it costs more
>> KC> PC... :)

>> Hehe...

>> Then I have a proposal for ALL:
>> But share
>> opinions/considerations/suggestions/wishes etc
>> on the topic:

>> Is there a need for a device called “hellish HARD disk controller”
>> with the following capabilities:
>> (note: read to the very end.

>> mandatory-

>> 1) full VG emulation (absolutely everything goes, emulated
>> flop drive speed, index holes, write protection,

>> 2) point 1), but without emulation of speeds/delays;

>> 3) partitioning into tr-dos disks - the same as

>> and not just for Scorpio)
>> 4) work in IS-DOS - similar to SMUC; 16 meters,
>> HARD-boot, 1.75 mb/sek
>> 5) internal cache of 1 MB.
>> 6) download speed from cache - 1.75 MB/s
>> (always, excluding mode 1; for is-dos and tr-dos,

>> 7) the speed of suction from the screw is equal to the transfer of the screw (but not more than 1.75
mb/sec),
>> 8) the device is stuck into the slot; no soldering iron needed.
>> 9) saving all setups somewhere.

>> if you get perverted, you can also -

>> 1) creating images of floppy disks with any format, emulation

>> 4) using the internal DMA controller for your needs

>> 5) adapt the STS to the built-in shadow server (MAGIC can be pressed
>> always, auto-detection of the contents of #7ffd and #1ffd, the stack does not

>> 6) Reset supervisor (press RESET, machine actions -

>> Well, how? If you think carefully, the volume

>> I give you a certificate - I am of sound mind and sober memory...

>> Now the comments:

>> 1.75 MB/sec - transfer speed directly

>> I repeat, 1.75 MB/sec in _all_ modes
>> for _all_ loaders for all systems,

>> About perverse points - everything depends

>> Don’t ask me _how_ all this can work;

This is the letter.

Sorry, Boris.

From Andy Harchenko To All 10 February 1998

Whoa, finally someone figured it out, it’s time for Speck to have an axel. And then the memory
was expanded, the turbo was made, the screw was tightened :), the music was cranked up beyond belief,
but the screen remained unchanged as it was. IMHO it’s time to do it.

With maximum respect, Andy Harchenko.
