From Pavel Fedin → To All 9 August 1997
hello, Andrey Mihaylow! I remember that on 27 Jul 97 you took it and launched
in All with this:
AM> I would like to get information on SUBJ, in particular to have complete or
AM> partial documentation on computers
AM> ATM, SCORPION256-1024, PENTAGON512, SPRINTER
AM> and so on. Full documentation means: ports of this machine +
AM> structure
AM> of extended bells and whistles (_especially_ an extended screen, if such
AM> exists
AM> to be), etc., it is desirable to ripple the beam (except for PENTAGON), as well as
AM> the number of cycles in one interruption (here it is advisable to indicate what
AM> program did you
AM> use, if this is your personal program, then indicate the
AM> counting cycle), For my part, I can offer complete documentation on PROFI.
I have complete documentation on Profi, or rather, it was - the screw died. :-(((
I sent it out here - just ask Michael Markowsky. Now this information
is contained only in my head, but the information is comprehensive - obtained from
CP/M drivers and tested in practice. I can say the structure of the screen right
now. This is a 512x240 graphic screen. Sinclair acquaintances are divided
into two halves. The left halves are located in the same order as and on
a regular Sinclair screen from address #C000, the right half - from address
#E000. The attributes have exactly the same structure -we get 2 colors per
line of 8 dots. There are also 2 such screens (switched in the usual way via
#7FFD): one is located in pages #06 and #3A (screen 1; #06 - pixels, #3A -
attributes), the second - #04 and #38 similarly. I also remember the main expansion port
- #DFFD:
0 ┐
1 ├ the most significant 3 bits of the page number.
2 ┘
3 - switches the page imprinting window (0 - #C000, from address #4000
page #05; 1 - #4000, from address #C000 page 7). 4 - disables the ROM and
places RAM page #00 from address #0000. 5 - blocks the inclusion of TR-DOS ROM and
allows access to additional
devices
6 - Prints page #06 from address #8000. 7 - switches screens (0 -
normal, 1 - high resolution)
When bit 5 is equal to 1 bit 4 ports #7FFD controls not only the ROM, but also
access to additional devices:
0 - additional devices are disabled, but from any RAM address
registers of the disk drive controller are available at the addresses:
#1F - VG-93 command register
#3F - VG-93 track register
#5F - VG-93 sector register
#7F - VG-93 data register
#BF - system register for writing, RQ for reading
1 - additional devices are enabled; at the same time, the addresses of ports
BB-55 and VG-93 change. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the address table.
Also in version 5 of the motherboard, it is possible to change the palette on any of the screens.
Unfortunately,I haven't exactly figured out the port addresses yet, but I have a suspicion that it's #xx7E, where xx is the color number. According to information, this port is only accessible when the beam is in reverse. But I haven’t been able to check this yet.
bye, with all the best wishes, Pavel Fedin.

AM> Or maybe someone will echo the circuit diagrams of these computers? For me,
AM>, for example, it would be interesting to see how DAC and ADC are made in ATM.
AM> After all, if you send the diagrams in GIFs, they will take up quite a bit.
Schemes are of various graphics extensions for Pentagon-2, Kovox schemes, SCORPION schemes. You just need to take it off. I'll try soon.
Thank you for your time.

Truly, if you share it with your neighbor, you will become richer. I always, when I want something to last longer, I try to distribute it to people for whom it is also
of value - it will be more wholesome :-) And Michael Markowsky, please share,
it’s not 200K doc?
Regarding SPRINTER... I very much doubt seeing such a doc - there is too much
mysterious fog around it, however, as around all new commercial
projects.
If I'm wrong - sorry, but so far these are my impressions.
In general, I urge everyone to be more open, commerce in the face of the threat and
unrelenting pressure from the booms should fade into the background (shrinking with the speed of shagreen skin, Spectrum's circle of friends is worse than the loss of 20-40 percent of personal income. In addition, there are always many people who will buy so as not to do it themselves, not because they cannot do it, but because their time is MORE EXPENSIVE than the money that they can save by not buying, but making it for themselves. Another
thing is competition (in the sense of production for sale and copyright infringement right),
but how to get rid of this curse without resorting to a law that does not
work for us is unknown :-( )
Now, in essence...I would like to collect variations on allparameters
(addresses, ports, bits and what they control) FOR ALL compers of the Spectrum line, which were mass-produced and have a place to be.
Who would undertake such work in compiling the Spectrumist's Bible?
Good luck with your hunt! m@s (mas...@satan.spb.su)
