ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»
From Vyacheslav Mednonogov → To All 12 May 1997
Get msg, All!
Today some lucky people had a chance to see this new miracle computer.
It’s really fancy. And the fact that you can easily watch AVI files and
256 high-resolution color images on it is really true. Without dwelling on the technical details (it looks like someone was going to throw a complete list of them into the echo), it is still worth noting that this is more of a new computer than just a fancy Spectrum. With all the ensuing pros and cons...
With warm greetings, Slava.

LS> no! stop mocking people! give us a quick photograph and
LS> characteristics! any information, because _I_H_T_E_P_E_C_H_O_!
I’ve already thrown in a little “any” information :))
For those. information - rather to M. Kondratiev, V. Larkov, V. Eliseev. They
were there and understood everything better :)
LS> let's go on with the history of creation!
Something like this:
F. Peters was formed by itself clearly before '94. A little later, they
bought the rights (!) to the trademark and circuit design of a previously prosperous, and
then bankrupt company for collecting ZXs (either it was Companion, or
Composite). Although they did not use the trademark, having decided to be called Peters,
however, they guaranteed (!!) all these either Composites or Companions.
As expected, they produced both Peters'48 and Peters'128, and all sorts of gadgets for
them (starting from a block with a disk drive, ending with light pistols and flamethrowers :)
Who bought these Peters and where they were sold (and they were distributed only in St. Petersburg, IMHO) is a mystery to me personally, because... I've heard about anything (Scorpio,
BEM, Yaguana, Kai, 777, St. Petersburg, etc.), but not aboutthem. For some time they
were friends with Leningrad primary education, and set up several of their
classes.
The love for presentations was born, IMHO, in December 1995, when Peters 256 was exhibited on a frosty day in
Krasnoye Selo. The switching of pages was done according to
Scorpio’s scheme, and the following pleasant innovations were remembered: electronic disk in TR-DOS format (!); replacing ROM with RAM (turning Peters, for example, into a non-pro Scorpio); several video modes (spots on the border, text
mode 80x25, combining different resolutions (!) on one screen, etc.), partially flashed into IsDos RAM.
I have never seen Peters'256 on sale, much less heard an advertisement,
however, apparently someone bought it :), because The company now has a second office on
Vosstaniya (!) with security (!), in addition, these year and a half they have been working on a new
Peters'4096 - Sprinter. The soul of the work is the bearded Siberian Ivan, who, I am sure, could compete for the title of the best St. Petersburg
programmer-system engineer-operator with the MOA himself from the Scorpio f. The interim
demonstration of the Sprintera was at Enlight'96 - eyewitnesses were shocked (just kidding,
the Sprinter was clearly not in shape at that time). At the same time there was a timid attempt to establish connections with Zonov and X-Trade, which ended in nothing, because The parties
realized that they could not help each other in any way :)
The first release date was set for November'96, then postponed to February'97, now - to autumn'97. This is due, to a greater extent, apparently to the fact that the developers' plans grew as the work progressed (appetite comes during eating).
In their work, their friendly team relies on the most advanced achievements of science
and technology. However, their disregard for such a simple thing as advertising is not clear.
That’s basically the little that I know about them.

I understand you are not satisfied with the first quote, but Apparently this will happen. And this
will rather be the implementation of the Amiga, or rather all its advantages, and it will also take

So it’s a fact? As our mutual friend M. Romanov said, “don’t talk about what
you don’t know” :)
As an example: the owners of the offtopic are very proud of the ability
to display windows with different resolutions on one screen (somehow forgetting to mention
that these windows are the width of the whole screen :). So, the Peters developers went
further and propose opening an arbitrary number of windows of an arbitrary size with an arbitrary resolution (by the way, apparently, this idea was
implemented at a rudimentary level in Peters'256 and over these two years it has “accumulated fat”)
AF> Threat. So Slava switched to Peters or not? ;)
Well, not everything at once - it takes a year or two until it gets going :))
It's cool that Sprinter is the kind of computer for serious work
on which you definitely need to have a Pentium nearby (edit graphics, music,
megabytes of code :).
However:
a) there won't be a Sprinter emulator on IBM in the next five years :((
b) how unlikely is it that something like Microsoft Word, Corel Draw or Adobe
Photoshop will appear on the Sprinter itself :((
With warm greetings, Slava.

RA> I Don’t Believe (C)
Roman I’m waiting for you to meet with the Peters, don’t be so categorical. The Peters
ask
what do you (the Spectrumists) want to see in the new computer besides what is already there?
On May 11, they tore out that they wanted an additional mode (as in various
set-top boxes
with several planes) to make it easier to carry games. The Peters said - let's do it! Well, look at Mac, PC, Amiga and tell me what you need - why are you
sure
that Russian specialists are worse than Western ones and will not be able to implement the same or even
better?
:-(
DP>> cramming an Amiga into a minitower is a very troublesome task,
RA> Generally speaking, there is no need to cram decent Amigas, they are produced in
RA> minitower...
define decent/indecent ;-) . As far as I know, the Amigi (which is the most widespread) has only a system expansion connector, and in order to cram it all into a minitower, they ask for a lot of money. It's much cheaper to buy Sprinter :-).
RA> Enjoy your connections.

P.S. Dear Sirs! PC people, Amig people! I am not the first nor the second,

No, I’m trying to be objective ;))))
Of course, there is also a subzh:
I don’t really understand, but it seems that there are some internal ports in the Z84C15.
The Peters really liked it and they put a keyboard and mouse on them. Because
of which each key press generates an interrupt (NMI?). One minus is already known - programs with disabled interrupts will not respond to the keyboard.
The second minus is that fast data/graphics transfer based on
transfer via PUSH/POP (since the interrupt uses the stack) will not work. Accordingly,
the mouse is no longer a Kempston, but an IBM mouse (what were we fighting for?)
True, F. Peters is going to fix this.
Is it necessary to read from video RAM, which is not there now - IMHO, a controversial point.
A rather unpleasant moment is that under the wing of F. Peters
the viKS company has warmed up (not to be confused with Ilya Vasiliev!), which is today
the only St. Petersburg company openly engaged in piracy.
With warm greetings, Slava.
