Palette

ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»

From Andrey Smirnoff To All 13 December 1997

Hello, All !

Question to the creators of emulators:
Are there any differences in palettes between the standard VGA palette (the first 16 colors)
and the standard Spectrum palette.
And, if so, how should you modify the standard VGA palette?

C Best regards, Andrey Smirnoff.

AS> Question to the creators of emulators:

AS> colors) and the standard spectrum palette.

Surely: yellow-non-bright -> brown
black-bright -> gray

In general, bright/non-bright in this palette look unnatural

In addition, they are not in the right order: not 0-black/1-blue/2-red/..., but
0-black/1-blue/2-green/...

Warm greetings, Slava!

AS> (the first 16 colors), and the standard spectrum palette. And, if
AS> exists, then how should the standard VGA palette be modified?

Yes, there is. In the standard VGA palette, additional brightness (Bright)
is obtained by increasing the brightness, i.e. each color (even
if it is 0) has a brightness value added to it. In addition
in the VGA palette there is no yellow color, but there is brown.
Also, the dark gray color (bright black) on the Spectrum does not differ from
black. On the Spectrum, brightness is obtained by increasing saturation,
i.e. brightness increases only for colors that are turned on.

In my emulator, colors are formed from three brightness values:
0 - off, 47 (I don’t remember exactly) - normal brightness,
63 - increased brightness.

It seems so.
Best regards

Vyacheslav is that you?
...why were you telling Andrey Smirnoff about Palette?

VM> Surely: yellow-non-bright -> brown
VM> black-bright -> gray

VM> In general, bright/non-bright look good in this palette unnatural

afaik - the palette can be overloaded.

Good Luck...
