ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»

From Andrew Savichev To All 31 January 1998

Hello, Max!

It’s nice to communicate with you, of course, it’s painful that you deftly distort!
Well, okay, yours took...the Spectrum is bent...in your head, because
in mine it’s not there yet...I’ll get on with something better...but in the end I’ll still
say ;) ... not because I want to say the last thing, just
your pessimism doesn’t affect me! Even if I’m alone, without any eh
stays, I won’t change Spectrum..."Have you read the Brest Fortress?" :)
> AS> I can’t say anything about Fido, but about the Internet...which one exactly?
>
> well, you’re on the net, you should know what you need.
I have enough mail, and friends who are online, you can ask for anything
will send you :)

> Well, I didn’t use UUCP, but for I-NEt you need to make at least a good TCP-IP module + mailers + irc (that's where the joy of live communication is) + ftp. I’d better keep quiet about www :)
Ah...well, you’re all businessmen...I understand :) no, I’m a mere mortal, mail
is enough for me.

> So, if no normal ftn software has been written yet, then what else
> is possible? No, you can, in principle, make a simple dialer with UUCP...
> But who will write this? Is there any point in this?
Yes, everything has already been written, just take the source code in C and adapt!

> You didn’t understand the topic: the Ami has all this, but the sprinter doesn’t.
I’m happy for the Ami...they have absolutely nothing to do?...they have everything, like onpee,
move your mouse across the screen...yes, I'm a sucker for beautiful graphics and high-end sound ;)
Okay, don't lure me in...it's boring there...it's even more boring there, except
on pee...there, old Billy and his comrades scoured everyone from all sides for five centuries
forward .

> by the way, you can also use Internet e-mails from fido send. Through the gate.
> The same thing in zxnet. They didn’t do anything revolutionary there.
Free cheese in the mousetrap...I watch every day...from me to the Fido gate
10 minutes (in the echo) and back - in the evening after 10, when the tariffs are free.
I stuck 1 meg in r.c.s and nothing - it hangs for the second day and flew to my home via a fiber
channel Helsinki in 5 seconds. Yes, and zx.spectrum is kept
safe and untouched, mind you, I never ask you to send it
like others... it is held in high esteem by my providers and files (especially programs)
sometimes lie there for two weeks! :)
So mail in Relcom is of course the same as in FIDO and ZXNET, only the speeds are different and the servers, IMHO, are more powerful ;).
>
> And for $200 you can now have a machine with software, a modem and a monitor and a screw. (well, PC it is). And take advantage of all the delights.
No, don’t write...Amiga or something, probably everything is getting tangled under our feet here ;)...
10,000,000 pisishniks, our 5,000 don’t care, but 500 Amishniks can’t sleep ;)
>
> AS> Between the okiyan and the swamp there are othersbodies of water! :) swamps, as you
> AS> know, feed rivers! and without rivers there would be no seas, and so on.
>
> No, I’m not talking about swamps. And about the risers :)
No, well, to hell with this okyan!
>
> it was because it is no longer produced, and to sell it on
> a loose elemental base is practically unrealistic, just like
> the Amiga - it will be too expensive (which is what we see now on Sprinter).
Nothing like that, I have catalogs from Conrad and I know: what it consists of
they didn’t copy its insides here in Russia, so there’s no need to
emulate it ;(, and if I’m wrong, then give it to Ivan, he’ll do it for you on the Sprinter
we’ll trim the C64! quite!

> However, it lives with them, about the same as the Spectrum with us.
Where is it with you? I’m seriously telling you about the Sprinter, revive the C64 on it.
>
> how did it not happen? where is their stage? where are their networks? where are their echoes?
where are their catalogs, even if they are “orphaned”, like on the Spectrum...where????
I saw the prices for their programs in the same Conrad - you will stagger, but of course,
if it weren’t for the fraternal Polish people and not the imminent collapse of Sir Clive’s company...
>
> They were not taken out of production, but the commodor died. c=64 did

So what? brandedWhen did the Spectrum die? but here everything is developing and living! :) why?...everyone knows why.
>

Do it, who won’t give it to you? :)
>

Yeah, looking at your reaction to the Sprinter? I don’t care what he’ll do to you, because
it is said: “...don’t throw away pearls...”, etc. ;)
>
> AS> Is there anyone in Russia who hasn’t even heard of it?

I won’t say about 80%, 500 thousand out of 250 million PLAYED on Spectrum!

> AS> And they have 6 retail outlets in St. Petersburg (even 2 in the very center of the city,

No need to install protection on the disks! Put the emulsion on the PC, how can you do it?
put the disk under the emulsion and look in the same store where they sell compacts, and
also make an information base...
Andthere will be a Spectrum compact and that’s it! I have the right...to put it in the same way
as I put a CD now, in the same store!
And you don’t need it in a special frame...you’ll give it to the seller like other discs and
that’s it! Make the cover noticeable with the Spectrum emblem + something else, so as not to scare away pisishniks.
>
> AS> turning into $ 1000!

Yeah... they would quickly contact you then... mmm... yes what can I say, everything is clear;(

$1000 IMHO won’t cost you... you see, your idea goes beyond buying blanks
and piracy doesn’t work :(
You will have to invest a minimum of $15,000 (to get back $20,000), you need to do not
1,000 pieces, but 5,000 pieces, but how do you decide? I read my text inattentively, I explained everything there
how.
But all the same, neither you nor I have that kind of money, why pour it from
empty to empty...buy yourself a digital camera + laptop for $1500, shoot
the girls on the beach and post it on the website... you’ll earn a couple of grand in a season, IMHO
(I have a distant friend with thisdid it in the summer, although his buddies in the states
ordered it for him)... and I had _such_ money without need... and I’m too old for
such things ;)
>
> if flops could be copied relatively cheaply, and flop guides

The flop costs 5-25 grand, and the compact will go for 35-45 and with a whistle! and the flops are sluggish...

> AS> True, in relation to the Spectrum, it may turn out mmm.... The question arises
> AS>: how many CDs per year can the whole scene produce “over the top”?
>
> hehe... 1/3.
Well, I think so, and therefore it is necessary to write 1/8 software for the Spectrum, and the rest
picture books/puppy programs :)

> well, they will wait all 3 years for 1 compact.
Yeah... just start doing it... and others will pick it up... so it goes to 2-3 compacts
a year. But you'll go straight up the hill...how much can you earn from magazines right now?
And from one compact you'll have three times as much...not only 200
spectrumists will buy it from you, but also 4,800 pisishniks! and if you select
the content wisely, let’s say a couple of steering programs in writing (for example, HI-SOFT C under PIC or
z80 (Caller ID boxes are drying up), other drawn out instrumental systems for
micruhi (I’m talking about what is close to me and what costs more than $200 per program),
disassemblers, if they’re cool, are also in demand, a bunch of interesting books
(better manuals),the pictures are cool (it would be better if they were reproductions of paintings from private collections (but in extreme cases, the same beautiful girls from the beach)) and
unobtrusively so 60 out of 600 are software for the Spectrum.
Now the market is filled with “garbage”, and a good compact is always torn out of your hands.
And there, you see, out of 4,800 writers there is a thread Will it slowly drift here out of nostalgia? ;)
>
> Well, why is the Spectrum needed here? For the sake of heroic hemorrhoids?
Davydov dedicated 3 pages to the Spectrum...so what? who was against it? ...so
on a pisish compact these 60 meg will not matter, but spektrumists will have a blast! Moreover, since they are mostly virtual (those who have CDs now), they will not refuse steering software
too.
>
> To everyone who has REGULAR Spectrums. (and that's ALL).
Regular...is it 48? :) and who said that out of 200 people in zx.spectrum -
150 are virtual?
>
> Good Luck...
Well and to you...success in this strange world!
