* Message from gate SpbZxNet<=>FidoNet.
A big hello to you, dear All!
Here, I have received new reference books
on the subject from the subject... :) and also read
ON-Line... and here are some
statistics for you:
ZX-Net SpbZxNet
in total there are 304 modem owners who the hell knows
(for St. Petersburg - Vikomm, for
Moscow - CDOS)
in total with addresses 53 87
of which non-resident users 12 0
bbs stations, 11 15
bbs stations included in the network, not included innetwork 14 0
number of hours that work
all bbs per day (on average):
bbs that are part of the network 71.5 hours 70 hours
bbs that are not part of the network 97 hours 0 hours
bbs that are not registered 1 1
users
bbs that users log in to 1 15
passwords
bbs, at which different levels 0 14
access
number of disk drives at stations:
1 drive 6 stations 2 stations
2 drives 11 stations 11 stations
3 drives 4 stations 0 stations
4 drives 4 stations 2 stations
newspapers 5 2
both networks are dominated by a common theme on stations.
in a word, draw your own conclusions.
my conclusion:
if comrade. Usov kept a record of the modems sold
(and he seems to be keeping track, you have to ask :),
at least 500 of the current
Usov Wicomms were sold in St. Petersburg. plus countless
home-made ones. no one knows for sure, and is it necessary? many threw
their modems into the trash, many gave up on Spec,
many don’t even suspect the existence of
SpbZxNet...
in terms of the number of users with addresses, we are already
a long time aheadMoscow!
unfortunately, not a single point from other cities yet.
this is explained by the lack of Internet, but
it won’t last long...
we managed to do what the Muscovites failed to do - maintain the unity of the network. (ugh, ugh,
ugh) our grid is bigger! We have more
servers on the network and more and more new ones continue to open. By the way, from Wednesday
one more station will start working...
we had to sacrifice individual stations,
but this is for the better. If it were possible to set up your own servers, long ago the number of stations not included in the network would have moved from zero. Is it just necessary? the number of
servers in the network would decrease... :(
the total amount of time provided by all
stations of the network for users per day y SpbZxNet and
ZX-Net, in fact, are no different. But
Moscow bbs, not part of the network, made
both ZX-Net and SpbZxNet :(
y Muscovites only one server, where there is
a password (common for all clients). We have 15 of them, that is
at all stations...
and due to the primitiveness of the software, they cannot create
different levels of access in Moscow
in fact, there is no private correspondence, most likely
mostly minimal - after all, for it you need
to get acquainted first, but how can it be? to get acquainted
without echo? And you can call someone you already know by phone...
Muscovites receive echoes only on ALEX-BBS, which
works for several hours threeonce a week.
it seems that on the other servers there is nothing else except
toys and soap.
yes, they are all proud of the Internet, but we will have it too
soon, the system will be much more
automated and user-friendly.
they know about Fido mostly by hearsay,
at least they don’t write in the echo (except OldMana,
whose pentiym). Their mail forwarding system is completely manual. As I understand it,
they have no automation at the gate - a couple of letters
come from the host, and the gate sysop
manually pushes them into the Max database...
there are no internal ones at all. There are several newspapers
that in some way replace echoes, i.e.
if someone has a need to turn to Allah,
he writes an article in one of the newspapers.
the smarter the article, the cooler
newspaper it ends up. :)
the coolest newspaper in Moscow is OnLine, in St. Petersburg - you yourself
know :) MAXIMUM and LIME TREE are good newspapers,
although in my humble opinion their overall
information content is much lower than Fidosh+SPbzxnet
eh. By the way, our XA-XAFON is quite able
to compete even with OnLine, at least
in terms of interestingness (in my opinion).
although you shouldn’t compare the incomparable - OnLine is about
Spec, XA-XAFON is about humor.... :)
the worst thing in St. Petersburg - ReadMe, in Moscow there was something
similar, even worse, but it was fast rotted
six months ago... now such a shame for the city asCrimea, not in Moscow. This is our common big
minus - it’s a shame for St. Petersburg.
let’s move from network affairs to market affairs.
we are now being traded. comrades:
VIKSy, Fomin, X-Trade, Scorpion, Century (11 tray),
Felix, Welcome, Logros, several small
"entrepreneurs", for example, in "Electronics"...
in Moscow: FFC computers, Inforkom, Magic Soft, Softstar.
sales in Moscow are greater due to the fact that people from villages go there to stock up sat down.
there are more sellers in St. Petersburg... and if
Magic Soft has already given up on trading on the market,
then our traders are still trading, which means
it is still profitable, which means Speck has not died yet.
now the software market: in Moscow no one is doing a damn thing
except Styopa and Siamance. In St. Petersburg - you know... :)
The Hardware market - there’s nothing even to compare. y
we have Scorp, and Kay, and Peters, and in Moscow -
The Pentagon-made something, found it, soldered it :)
number of users: the devil knows, however
according to some data, in Moscow there are still more of them,
but the ratio of Sinclairists/mere mortals is lower.
i.e. we have more Sinclairists per unit of population :)
what, people! Does anyone still have doubts
about the coolness of SpbZxNet and St. Petersburg? :)
Best wishes, Arno.

Get msg, All!
Alex, is it okay that I forwarded your letter? I really liked it :)

Howdy, Arno!
Let me answer yld Friday, the 25 of April 1997:
VM> in terms of the number of users with addresses, we are already
VM> long ahead of Moscow!
Not surprising - there are many more Sinclairists in St. Petersburg, IMHO. We have already passed this stage
and the most persistent ones remain ;) Let's see what you will have next
year...
VM> the coolest newspaper in Moscow is OnLine, in St. Petersburg - you yourself
VM> you know :) good newspapers MAXIMUM and LIME TREE,
VM> although in my humble opinion their overall
VM> information content is much lower fidoshnyh+spbzxnetovsky
VM> eh.
Well, of course. You might think that in St. Petersburg newspapers it is more :) St. Petersburg newspapers
are interesting to St. Petersburg residents, Moscow ones - accordingly, to Muscovites. So the Newska
Muscovite reports almost nothing interesting...
VM> Let's move on from network affairs to market affairs.
VM> We are now trading in the following. comrades:

Well, a little incomplete, but it will do for rural areas ;)
VM> there are more sellers in St. Petersburg... and if
VM> Magic Soft has already given up on trading on the market,
... then St. Petersburg residents will only have to do this - you will see in a year.
VM> nowsoftware market: in Moscow no one does a damn thing,
VM> except Styop and Siamans. In St. Petersburg - you know... :)
Well, this is a completely blatant attack ;) They do. And taking into account the number of sinclairists,
not so little ;)
VM> Hardware market - there’s even nothing to compare. y
VM> us and Scorp, and Kay, and Peters, and in Moscow -
And what, Peters came out after all? ;) Completely behind the times.
Again, there were other computers (Pros, for example), but everything was slowly |

Let's see how many of them will remain in St. Petersburg in a year =)

Are you talking about the number of users of all platforms? I assure you, there are
_much more_ of them in Moscow! Every second person has MS ;)
Hasta la vista, Arno.
With God's blessing, Novikov Sergei

SN> ... then the people of St. Petersburg are just about to do it - you’ll see in a year.
Alex probably didn’t know, but in St. Petersburg this process is systematically continuing.
Over the last year and a half, far from small Unicum, CSL, SSL, LMV, Ilya
Fomin (Death Studio?).
Last week he stopped his activities on the X-Trade market (he, however,
just entirely switched to GS and a new modem)
Warm greetings, Slava.

Hello Vyacheslav! Nice to see you. :)
I’m reading my mail and suddenly I see: Vyacheslav Mednonogov writes to Sergei Novikov.
Interesting... I thought and added:
VM> Alex probably didn’t know, but in St. Petersburg this process is systematically

Yeah, soon only LOGROS will remain, and they will soon understand the hopelessness of the situation...
Specky It wouldn’t fade if new games and programs were written, but who will do this now? Only Slava, and a few more ardent Speccy fans.
Everyone is switching to IBM and this is not inevitable, there are so many people who were previously
in some way connected with ZX...
And in order to start writing a new program for ZX, you have to take it out of
the closet (if it is still there), connect it, and so break it.
But, we still have emulators! True, you can't write anything on them, but you can look at them. :)
And a lot of games on nvg.unit.no
I wonder if more cool games will be written in ZX ?
PS: Yes, and also, IMHO the best coding was and will remain with Slava Mednonogov!
Slava, when will you start writing on IBM? :)
Good luck! Alexander Lebedev.

06 May 97 22:57 -- Alexandr Lebedev told Vyacheslav Mednonogov about some
statistics:

AL> But we still have emulators! True, you can’t write anything on them, but

IMHO, recently all the coolest things for ZX have been written using
IBM/Amiga. Sometimes almost without using Speck :)) Just using
emulators. (For example, the group Step has been doing this for a long time (using UKV 1.2))
What can we say if even the hereditary musician LAV, when writing his
melodies, is content with the modest sound of the Shalaev emulator, forgetting about
the delights of the real AY.
AL> Slava when will you start writing on IBM? :)
The first step has already been taken - I bought the book "Secrets of Programming Games for
WINDOWS 95" :)))
With warm greetings, Slava.

And the first program will be Pinocchio ONLY for Win'95 ;))
And then there will be conversions of Spec's games to the writing platform. :)
With all sorts of regards and wishes.
Igor.
