Magic Files ?

ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»

From Zinov'ev Yury To All 30 July 1997

Greetings to you, Vlad!

It was Sunday July 30, 1995, at approximately 18:24,
Vlad Ipatov communicated with Vyacheslav Mednonogov:

VI>>> What to do with them next to use the program?
VM>>
VM>> Dial: GOTO "@" CODE
VI>
VI> I typed and the process started: glitches on the screen, then after pressing the spacebar
VI> - exit to Basic and everything. What should have happened? How to get .b and .c files?
VI> The launch took place from TR-DOS.

Try to rename it so that the name begins with the "$" sign. Does Speck help while he's alive?-)
Sincerely, Yuri.

From Dmitry Zubarev To All 30 July 1997

If the downloaded program does not use 128K, you can kill all files with numbers,
then write in trdos GOTO "filename" CODE and that's it, if the program opens but does not
react, add $ to the beginning of the name, and for 128s you need to do this for each
file and change it inside in the 8th... Although this magic is not magic at all - a must die!

VI> P.S Hey, I didn’t have a disk drive.

I don’t understand - do you want to use this on spec or on emulation?

C u l8r,
Dmitry aka ZDW.

From Vyacheslav Mednonogov To All 1 August 1997

Glitches on the screen are common. After downloading, the program should
start from the place where it was interrupted.

Otherwise, one of three things - either you launched from under the emulator (and emulators do not digest Magic files well), or the program was unsuccessfully dropped (this often
happens, sometimes you have to reset it 5-10 times before a working version
is obtained). Either the program uses the second interrupt mode, then all files
need to be renamed so that the name begins with $ (for example, instead of '@n' - '$@n')
Or the program provides protection from the Magic button - then :(((

VI> How to get .b and .c files?

So you got the @n.c files :)))) [unfortunately, there is no other way, or rather
-painstakingly by hand]

Warm greetings, Slava!

From Sergey Oborin To All 2 August 1997

You split the main @ file into pieces, and load the rest into the appropriate
pages. It just looks different from the disk: goto "@"code , and then it
starts loading itself.

Thank you for your time.

There is (I don’t currently have) a special packer magic files. The output is a BASIC loader, a picture, a code block. If necessary, I can look for it.

With all sorts of regards and wishes.
Igor.

... Still green, but no longer turning red.

Look, pls. And throw it into the echo.
