Hi, All!
The question is, of course, very difficult...the interests of very, very many merchants (distributors) are affected here, but still?
Isn’t it time for interested parties to “take a swing” at a compact for the Spectrum?
The problem is that all software sold on floppy disks (even this form trade
is to the hearts of very many ;-) ) this is, as it were, put it mildly...yesterday
byte-
trade. In the end, publishers would need to gather at the “round table” and
agree on “dividing the pie”... and in order not to “share the skin of an unkilled beast” they
will be forced to “put together their money” and do “big and the right thing."
What are the consequences of this action?
Firstly: the market is expanding, because on most Spectrum-line computers today there is physically no CDROM drive, therefore they
will continue to buy software on flops, butthere are hundreds and perhaps
thousands of new buyers who have IBM PCs (possibly “over the hill”), for whom
software on the flops is like a goat button accordion ;-).
Protecting software from illegal copying from CDROM at first will be even
easier for the reasons that “hiding a needle in a haystack” is much easier,
getting it out of there is much easier difficult.
Secondly: control over copyright compliance is simplified.
There are not many companies that can raise this case (probably one in St. Petersburg
and one in Moscow) and if I, the author, see my copyright software on the compact, then I just
go to this company... or to court if we don’t agree ;-). It will be easier for these few companies to “deal” with pirates (for this they will have more means
influence) ;-).
Pirates from the world of IBM will not covet this market (since its capacity is hundreds of times smaller than their traditional “pasture”)
Thirdly: this stimulates the growth of domestic software makers and publishers
electronic
mass media (of course: 600 meg needs to be filled with something and not just “anything at all”, but with high-quality and interesting information, music, graphics, animation, programs, games) Apparently, the potential of both capitals will be enough
only for one or two new compacts a year ;-) The stupid
cries of “where is the new software?” will stop being heard? ,"Spectrumdead!" and others...;-9
And the last thing: maybe this will finally lead to the emergence of a standard for CDROM
in real Spectrums and finally a normal operating system will appear (600 meg -
this is not some 81m!).
Food for thought...
CDROM is currently cheaper than hard drives, even 100 Mb, in terms of speed They are not inferior to them, they are a long-term mass-produced global product, recognized in world practice as the MAIN media for the distribution of software products.
Flops (and screws)... let flops remain for work groups and for storing
homemade software products
This is the vision of the future...
Have a good hunt for everyone! Savichev Andrey V. AKA m@s

Can I reply here, since the addressee is not specified?

I, for example, have already done this, but not for commercial purposes, but so to speak
“for the soul.” I recorded a compact with all the emulators known to me today, as well as a lot of .trds with noise, starting from the inception of the Spectrum
to the present day. The work is really not finished yet, my compact is
multisection, so I will add to it as much as possible.
Very convenient thing! If I want to play on the ZX (and I only play on my Pentagone to feel the buzz), I insert the compact and in a minute I get a “still warm” floppy! And before that, all the shelves were filled with five-inch flops! More than 500 discs!
It’s a pity, there are a lot of discs that you can’t transfer to .trd
Bye, Vladimir :)
... ...Hey, if you’re in Taganrog, come in!...

To be precise, it is gated not through me, but through /400. Previously, letters
from the Internet went to the echo directly, from /400. But after the incident with Starwalker, by agreement with the gatemaster, all Internet traffic entering the echo
will be forwarded to me by netmail. to the commoderator, and I will forward in the echo.
Best wishes! Michael KLUG

echo! (which can’t be said about spb.speccy :( )I tried to communicate via FIDO
and with ZXNET from St. Petersburg, but to no avail :(
By the way, there is no echo about Spectrum in Relcom (shame on Relcom!!!)
I have been “pushing” the idea of consolidating all spektrumists here since my very
appearance - the more of us, the less between us quarrels and squabbles (and often over trifles: -9), the better for both us and Spectrum!
Now I want to speak about “other platforms”. If there are among you those who think that Spectrum is primarily HARDWARE, then they are deeply mistaken. Of course, hardware is also important, but not as much as: PEOPLE, IDEAS, PROGRAMS/
GRAPHICS/MUSIC (the last three are equivalent) and only in this sequence!
So why not make life simpler and easier for PEOPLE who are devoted to the Spectrum?
Publishing a CD would bring a lot of people back to the Spectrum! And even more people
with a PC
would simply open their eyes to the UNKNOWN to them peace!

Is it possible to remove the forward header and put the name/address
of the author in the header? Otherwise, for example, you might want to respond to A. Savichev, but accidentally run into you
:)
Warm greetings, Slava!
