From Sergei Novikov To All 7 November 1997

Without an intro, no one will understand that the game has been restored. Moreover, I'm not just talking about restoring. In general, a restaurant release will look, at best,
the same as a non-broken, normal version - nothing special.

SN>> Thus, a normal group will try to extract the maximum from
SN>> their work.
EM> But this is not necessary...

I don’t agree?

EM> Nobody talked about “lack of benefit”. But, it is important not to cross
EM> the line beyond which a benefit for some becomes an inconvenience for
EM> others...

Any benefit is an inconvenience for someone. The same trainer for some
radical-minded individuals.

SN>> If not money, then fame. And how well anyone
SN>> succeeds is another question. Groups that fail to realize this will
SN>> remain lame in the concept of society, creating versions with inscriptions
SN>> like “Restored for 128K mode by...” at the bottom of the screen.

EM> That is. a group that restored a toy on the board and made such an inscription on it
EM> is lame, and, for example, didn’t change a thing, but
EM> made an awesome intro - a workshop? but the incentive is fame.
I already said, that a simple inscription is a more noticeable and less effective way of gaining fame than an intro. Those. it is similar to some kind of Downs noticeable intro.

Of course, one inscription is not enough to move forward from the ranks of lamers. This is where the fact that the game has been restored comes to the rescue. How much this fact will increase the reputation of the group in the eyes of the individual depends on the value system of each individual individually. This will make a big impression on some, since they decided that a huge amount of restoration work had been done. Others don't care about this, because
they look first of all at the quality of the game, and not at whether it has
glitches on the 143 screen. Those. a band that has restored, say, Tobor is not valued at all, while a band that has restored Dizzy 5 is a cool band.

Ie. The very fact of the restaurant also affects the increase in the indicator of such a factor as fame, but it does it much worse than a cool intro.
Ie. a group that released a program with a very cool intro automatically ceases
to be lame in our minds, while the one that restored a couple of well
restored games without intros is not enough to achieve this level of fame.

EM> Well... And I thought that I knew how to properly design owl
EM> software products.

Sovi Design the products as you want. Anyway, now you've switched to PC and it's unlikelyAre you going to release another game.

EM>>>>>>> But I haven’t played it at all. I both downloaded it and immediately erased it. :))
SN>>>>>> You have the ability to lie... Or is this a joke? Hmmm...
EM>>>>> This is neither a lie nor a joke? Where did you get the idea?
SN>>>> Yeah. You erased the Space Gun. Maybe someone will believe you, but not me
SN>>>> for sure.
EM>>> ?????? Have I ever told you that I liked her?
SN>> Don’t move the conversation to another topic. What does “like” have to do with it? You didn't
SN>> erase it, and that's clear.
EM> And what makes you think that I didn't erase it?

;) Think for yourself. A _normal_ person does not delete such games on purpose. In the worst case, it is kept somewhere in an archive. If instead of this game there was some kind of Pacman, I would still believe it. Moreover, your phrases are too indecisive (“What makes you think that I didn’t erase it?” - what is this? If you hadn’t erased it,
you would have said more firmly: “Listen, I erased this game right away, and anyone
can confirm this, so it’s better to keep quiet.”) You need to understand a little about the psychology of people.

EM> P.S. In general, let's stop this conversation. We, in principle
EM> think
EM> about this in the same way, the difference is in the details. Do you think that intro
EM> should becolorful and elegant, I - that it should not be “imposed” and
EM> stand out sharply against the background of the game.

The intro should be pleasant. Not necessarily over-wrought and
over-sophisticated. But it doesn’t necessarily fit into the game. In each specific case, you can act differently, and in general terms this cannot be explained. If you want, bring some game. I'll tell you which intro is better for her, and which
is better not to do in my opinion.

SN> What? Some versions were really very nice - Dizzy 7,
SN> Dizzy X-2... Although such things as the game being glitchy or not packaged,
SN> of course affect the authority. But the influence of the intr cannot be denied.

Some versions from Softball were made by Titus, and some by us (FFC), there were no
glitches and lack of packaging.

With respect, Alex from FFC COMPUTERS.

From Alex Kovrigin To All 9 November 1997

I haven’t seen Dizzy7, but as for DizzyX-2, I’ll say frankly - it’s disgusting.
No, of course the new sprites there deserve all sorts of praise, but
they are out of place there. A simple example, in the original version the most natural soviet old woman was drawn, now she is some kind of witch from the Middle Ages (it wouldn’t even occur to her that her main occupation is collecting bottles, she should fly in a mortar with a broom). Again, the original depicted a typical Soviet cop, now some kind of Don Cossack. Nonsense.

SN> Here and
SN> the fact that the game has been restored comes to the rescue. How much this fact will increase
SN> the reputation of the group in the eyes of the individual depends on the value system of each

Wow. Lamer will first of all evaluate the catchiness of the intro and its effects,
and then, perhaps, he will look at what has been added to the game itself.
SN> Some will be greatly impressed, because
SN> they decided that a huge amount of restoration work had been done. Others
SN> don't care about this, since they look first of all at the quality of the game, and not

Dualism? how do youyou combine the concepts of “quality” and “glitches on 143...”
SN> That is. the group that restored,
SN>, say, Tobor is not valued at all, while the restored Dizzy 5 -
SN> is a cool group.
And only in the eyes of lamers who judge the skill of programming
exclusively by video effects in the intro...

SN> That is. The very fact of the restaurant also influences the increase in the indicator of such a factor as fame, but it does it much worse than a cool
SN> intro.
Well, naturally... people take programs because of the intro, and not because of them
themselves...

SN> automatically ceases to be lame in our minds,
Ah moment. In whose “ours”? THD made a good intro to their version of the Elite (at least compared to the Kladovskaya version), and what, they are now not
lamers, but Kladovsky Lamers? What about IBM's Russified Space Quests? And the Russian-
sified Kyrandia, Goblins? They don’t have a bright, catchy intro. But
all programs are plowed up and down...
SN> while
SN> the one that restored, a couple of well-restored games without intros are not enough to

It depends on who. For lamers - yes, because they are (see above).

EM> Ah moment. In whose “ours”?

Well, how can I say... Guess for yourself. In general, or something.

EM> THD made a good intro for their version of the Elite

Did they have an intro there? I don't remember. Or do you think a menu with a choice of help or
start of the game is a good intro?

EM> (at least compared to the storeroom), and what, they
EM> are now not lamer, but treasure lamer?

1) THD did not make any cool intro to their elite. If they had done something like Titus's intro to Navy Seals, no one, not even you, would have called them lamer.

2) THD got a bad reputation not only because of the Elite-3 bug. At that time
half of the releases were buggy (²SNG ;): Found Genghis, it seems not broken, but
snapshot. The map is normal, at the bottom of the screen there is a normal “control panel”. Better
than The Wild Bunch ;)

3) In the case of THD, there were more factors lowering authority than raising it.

EM> And IBM's Russified Space Quests? A
EM> russified Kyrandia, Goblins? They don’t have a bright
EM> catchy intro. But all the programs have been plowed up and down...

Don't get PC involved here. It's a completely different matter there. I've only seen one normal intro - for Dizzy 4 by Faith (I won't throw dizy at anyone!;)

I strongly disagree! If, for example, group “A” restored the program “P1”, and group “B” - “P2”, then by your definition everything will
depend on how much better “P1” is designed than “P2”. And not because of how difficult it was to make changes to “P1” and “P2”. But it is quite
possible that the work done by group “B” is much more and of better quality than by group “A”.
