and again about standards
ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»
From Andrew MOA → To All 10 May 1997
On the day of May 09, 97 Fedin Pavel had the good fortune to write to Oleg Bashtenko:
FP> Skorpovets defends his junk." I don’t have Scorpio, but a Pro. And I
FP> know very well all the shortcomings of this car, which arose from the fact that someone
FP>, just like you, decided that everything was junk, but I will do what
FP> will become standard. The result was a complete monstrosity - a bunch of
FP> wonderful additional resources, access to which is very difficult from the
FP> normal Spectrum mode. After all, it was designed as a CP/M machine
FP> with a Spectrum hardware emulator.
What can you learn from the echo...
:)

Hello, Oleg Bashtenko! I remember that on May 10, 97 you took it and launched it at me with this:
OB> If you carefully read my messages about the standard, then it all came down to
OB> full compatibility of software products from different versions of SPECCY. We still need to make it clear to those people who write programs strictly tied to any version of the computer that they are doing nonsense!
I completely agree with you. But this does not mean that you should forget about all the additional features. They just need to be standardized somehow. In our
conditions this can only be done using drivers. But not a single driver can work with all possible perversions. And my OS will not support all extensions. For example, I am very sorry that I will not be able to organize support for
high-resolution screens, since they are so different that it is impossible
to come up with a more or less universal mechanism for working with them, and writing
completely separate drivers will take not even 16, but all 48 kb.
OB> And if we are to develop a standard, then a standard for writing software.
This is true. But to standardize the software, it is necessary to standardize the hardware.
Otherwise we are talking about standardization, but we ourselves are offering another perversion.
OB> Let them take into account the features of other versions, otherwise all their work will
OB> resemble WIN95! ;)))
By the way, thisnot funny. There are plenty of examples.
