New graphic editor

ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»

From Roman Petrov To All 7 January 1998

Hello! Dear All!

We (Brain Wave) are very interested in people's opinion - should we now create a new graphic editor? I, of course, believe that there are already 4 of them being written,
but I have only seen 1.5 ;-) The first one (from Kuzma Feskov) - I didn’t like it
(may the author forgive me), and not only me, but also our artist. I
have a question for the author - why does the cursor disappear in the top lines? It seems like they made cursors and more than 1x1 and everything worked perfectly, the beam
didn’t overtake us.
The second one (unfortunately I don’t remember the author, and I’m lazy to post a description, but I remember
that it flew almost simultaneously with the first) - didn’t start at all (at least neither on my Skorpa, nor on the Shalaevsky emulator).
I still can’t wait for the demo version of Art Works, which Sergey Novikov has long been threatening
to abandon. But for some reason he is in no hurry with this matter, but in vain...
And I also remember Flash wanted to make their own editor, but at that time they only had it in the project. If anyone knows how they are doing with it, write or post a demo version (if there is one).

We have a full-screen (!) graphic editor in our project. That is,
when drawing you are not disturbed by any menus and you see the entire screen.
Control is carried out with 6 keys (or a 2-button mouse). There are much more possibilities
planned than in Art Studio, and judging byAccording to the documentation of the demo versions we have seen, our editor will greatly surpass them. Work on the editor has already begun a little, but it can still be stopped (but I don’t want to - the editor should be too powerful). By the way, it is planned to later expand the editor into a powerful package for working with graphics. Moreover, programs will be able
to exchange information (!) and on machines with a memory of more than 128 kilobytes
it will be possible to immediately load frequently used (of your choice) programs
into memory (!).

Well, that’s all, I hope for your reaction.

With respect, Roman aka Megus of Brain Wave corp.

Roman is that you?
...why did you tell everyone about the New graphic editor?

RP> make a new graphic editor?

I would even say - definitely. I really don’t need it, but
people who have nothing but specs - very much so...

Yes, various goodies of PPaint would not be bad. Preferably with
animation capabilities. Although, this will already be a sprite studio :)

Nevertheless - different matrix filters, cutting out pieces of the picture
arbitrarily, using these pieces in the form of a brush, rotating
the brush along all axes, backfill transparency, necessarily several scratch
buffers... Gradient fills like dithering, as well as using the F-S
method... the ability to fill an arbitrary contour with the contents of
brushes with deformation, support for external proportional
bitmap fonts...

If most of these things don’t exist, then your editor will be
another wingless point editor.

p.s. Of course, all the features of the art studio should be there.

Good Luck...

Of course it should! There cannot be too much software, there is always little.

With respect, Alex from FFC COMPUTERS.

RP> make a new graphic editor?

Imho, it’s not worth it. Bye. Let's see if the people have enough AW.

I don’t know, I don’t looked.

Ulyanovsky? I went either under X128 or under Shalaev. The interface there is bad -
it’s inconvenient to work with, and there are a lot of possibilities that were invented, although not implemented.

RP> I can’t wait for the demo version of Art Works, which Sergey Novikov has been threatening to drop for a long time
RP>.

I didn’t promise to drop it in the echo;) It will be in Scenergy#0.

RP> But it’s something So far there is no hurry with this matter, but in vain...

So there is not long to wait for SNG.

RP> And I also remember Flash wanted to make their own editor, but they had it at

There is also SOTA - also at the stage of a demo version. But Art Works, IMHO, is better.

So it is in AW

RP> Control is carried out with 6 keys (or a 2-button mouse).

Also

AW has everything we could come up with. So that's enough.

RP> Work on the editor has already begun a little, but it can still be stopped
RP> (but I don't want to - it should be a very powerful editor).

There is no point in doing the same thing. Wait for the AW demo. And writing a graphic
editor is not a job for a couple of months - by the time it
is finished, there will already be 20 editors.

With God's blessing, Sergei Novikov AKA Spirit/STEP

I spent so much time with this. For one thing, comrades, maybe someone is cool in
geometry, otherwise I’m interfering here on a large scale and a lot of things may not be written what I had in mind, since in geometry I have 4 (in my mind 2-----).

It’s more complicated here, I’ve developed a small system for vector fonts, but
it turns out very cumbersome, although the font itself is not very large. Now, if only
someone would help with the quick drawing procedure...

Today, in general, it’s not that normalno.

That’s it, we’ve convinced you - we’ll do it and finish it ;-) And not only the editor, but something else,
but this is still a secret (although some people already know what it will be - but let them
keep silent ;-)

Floyd_Steinberg

filling is not TILE=ng, but deforming the brush throughout the entire volume.

In any case, on all systems with vector fonts, before
using the program, the system converts them in memory into
bitmaps of the required size, for speed of work. On the Spectrum
this will not work.

PK> Today, in fact, there is no such thing as normal.

there is. ARTSTUDIO.

Good Luck...

Now, if the soul is on fire, then, of course, you have to write. Then you will have something to be proud of.
;)

All the best to you!
Alexey.
