"How do they read echoes" or "A little about standards"

ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»

From Andrey Kythevich To All 10 March 1997

Hello, Alex!

08 Mar 97 03:42...After drinking beer, Alex Mikhailov scribbled something Evgeny
Milun:

AM> guilty? ok, pisishniks - they tweeted
AM> and forgot about your existence,
AM> but don’t forget that echo is also read on specs
AM>, where only PageDown can help...

In connection with the above, there is
the following question: _how_ ZX connects to
Fido, and what about the text screen?
Not worth it Should we accept as a standard,
say, 42 characters per line for
convenience of reading echoes by spectrists?

On the day of March 10, 97 Andrey Kythevich had the good fortune to write to Alex Mikhailov:

AK> In connection with the above, there is
AK> the following question: _how_ the ZX connects to
AK> Fido, and what about the text screen?

I don’t know (they say there is and they even write here). But many people have problems with the screen.

AK> Shouldn't we adopt as a standard,
AK> say, 42 characters per line for
AK> the convenience of reading echoes by spektrumists?

Not worth it. Firstly, echo was created (and is mainly used, for now at least) by those who are “nostalgic” or have a “cross” platform. And, secondly,
the question itself is not entirely correct - there should be no translation
lines inside the paragraph at all, and the correct output of information is the job of that same fidosh
software (both on the ZX and on the “cross”).
